The Vauxhall STX is an electric estate-car concept, not a confirmed production model. Its name means “Sports Tourer eXperimental,” and Vauxhall says it is exploring design features that could influence future cars. The company has not announced a production STX, a launch date, a price, a driving range or a final specification. A separate announcement says an all-new Vauxhall production model will be revealed in 2027, but it does not identify that car as the STX.
The short answer
Vauxhall describes the STX as a vision for the future of the estate car in the electric era. It combines a long-roof estate silhouette with an electric, all-wheel-drive architecture and a deliberately dramatic exterior treatment. The concept is intended to show where Vauxhall’s design language could go rather than to preview a confirmed showroom model.

Vauxhall’s 11 October 2026 reveal calls the vehicle both a “concept” and a “study.” It says the STX explores distinctive features that could influence future Vauxhall models, but it does not say that the STX itself has been approved for production. There is no announced production timetable, technical specification, order process or price.

What does STX stand for?
STX stands for Sports Tourer eXperimental. “ST” connects the name with Vauxhall’s Sports Tourer estate line-up, including the Astra Sports Tourer. The “X” signals that this is an experimental design study rather than a normal model designation.
The name therefore describes both the vehicle’s format and its role. “Sports Tourer” points to a practical estate-car body, while “eXperimental” warns that the styling, technology and specifications shown may not appear unchanged on a production car.
When was the Vauxhall STX revealed?

The sequence shows a staged concept launch: a name announcement, an initial glimpse and then a fuller reveal. None of those announcements converted the study into a confirmed production programme.
What does the STX look like?
Vauxhall’s published design description focuses on a number of cues that are likely to define the concept’s identity.
A taller Vizor front
The STX introduces a new, taller interpretation of Vauxhall’s Vizor front treatment. The Vizor is the broad visual element that gives the nose a unified appearance rather than separating the grille, lamps and trim into unrelated pieces. On the STX, Vauxhall presents that treatment in a more upright and assertive form.
Vertical lighting and an illuminated Griffin
Vertical lighting details add height to the front and rear design theme. The concept also carries an illuminated Griffin emblem. That lighting is a feature of the show car; Vauxhall has not confirmed that the same illuminated hardware will be fitted to a production vehicle.

Flush, aerodynamic bodywork
Vauxhall describes the body as flush and aerodynamically shaped. In practical terms, the concept’s surfaces are presented as clean and tightly integrated, with fewer visible interruptions than a conventional estate. The aerodynamic emphasis fits the electric-car brief, but the announcement does not publish a drag coefficient, range figure or efficiency result.

The STX uses three-section alloy wheels. They are part of the concept’s visual and aerodynamic treatment, not a confirmed wheel design for a future customer car. The reveal pairs them with very large, low-profile tyres, which reinforce the show-car stance but may not be carried over unchanged if the vehicle ever reaches production.
Active rear aerodynamics
At the rear, the concept has an active aerodynamic system with movable elements and extendable diffusers. These components are described as part of the STX study. Vauxhall has not said whether they would be technically, legally or economically suitable for a production estate, so they should be read as evidence of the design direction rather than a promise of standard equipment.
What powertrain and performance details are confirmed?
Vauxhall describes the STX as an electric concept with an all-wheel-drive architecture. That establishes the broad layout, but not the battery capacity, motor output, charging speed, usable range or energy consumption.
The company gives one headline performance figure: a top speed of more than 124 mph. It also specifies Goodyear tyres in size 285/35 R22. Both figures are manufacturer-stated concept specifications. They are not independent test results and should not be treated as final production-car data.

No battery size, charging time, official driving range, acceleration time, kerb weight or towing capacity has been announced for the STX. Those omissions are normal for a design study and mean that the car cannot yet be assessed like a production EV.

Is the Vauxhall STX going into production?
Vauxhall has not confirmed that it is. The wording used in the 11 October reveal is deliberately broader: the STX “previews” the next step in the company’s Bold and Pure design philosophy and “explores distinctive features that could influence future Vauxhall models.” That suggests the concept is a design and technology test bed, not a firm product announcement.
There is an important difference between a concept influencing future cars and the concept itself being built for sale:
- Confirmed: Vauxhall has built and revealed the STX as an electric estate-car study.
- Confirmed: The company is using it to investigate styling and features for future models.
- Not confirmed: A production STX nameplate.
- Not confirmed: A launch year, factory, price, range or customer specification.
Until Vauxhall makes a specific production announcement, reports that the concept is “coming soon” would go beyond the company’s published information.

What did Vauxhall say about the concept’s purpose?
Eurig Druce, Vauxhall Managing Director and Stellantis UK Group Managing Director, said: “With the STX Concept, we are reimagining the estate for the electric era, combining bold, visionary design with functionality, efficiency and driving pleasure. Featuring our new Griffin emblem, this study previews the next step in our Bold and Pure design philosophy and explores distinctive features that could influence future Vauxhall models.”
The statement explains why the STX should not be read as a conventional model launch. Its stated purpose is to combine a design statement with an investigation of ideas that may migrate into other cars. “Could influence” is a possibility, not a commitment to deliver every feature or to sell the study under the STX name.
Does the 2027 Vauxhall model confirm an STX?
No. Vauxhall has separately said that its new Griffin emblem will feature on an all-new production model scheduled to be revealed in 2027. That announcement does not identify the 2027 vehicle as the STX, and it does not say that the model will be an estate.

The connection is understandable because the STX also displays the new Griffin emblem. However, sharing a design emblem is not confirmation that two announcements describe the same vehicle. The 2027 statement establishes only that an all-new production Vauxhall is planned for reveal in that year.
Any stronger claim would require Vauxhall to name the model, describe its body style or explicitly link it to the STX concept.

Vauxhall has not published a part-by-part carry-over list. The features most clearly presented as design signals are the taller Vizor front, vertical lighting, the illuminated Griffin emblem, flush aerodynamic surfacing, three-section wheels and the active rear aerodynamic system.
That does not mean every item will appear on a production car. A future model could adopt the visual proportion of the front treatment while using different lamps, wheels or aerodynamic components. Similarly, the Griffin emblem could appear on a production model without that vehicle inheriting the STX’s body shape or all-wheel-drive system.
The safest way to track the STX’s influence is to compare later Vauxhall announcements against the concept by category: exterior graphics, lighting signature, aerodynamic details, estate-car practicality and electric drivetrain layout. A resemblance would show design influence; it would not by itself prove that an STX is entering production.

- Whether Vauxhall will build the STX under that name.
- A production launch date or reveal schedule.
- Battery capacity, motor power and charging specifications.
- Official range, consumption, acceleration or weight figures.
- Interior design, seating configuration and luggage capacity.
- Pricing, trim levels, market availability and order details.
- Whether the concept’s active rear aero system, 22-inch wheels or illuminated emblem would be retained.
These are not minor gaps for a buyer. They are the information needed to distinguish a road-ready product from a design exercise, and Vauxhall has not supplied it for the STX.
How should prospective buyers interpret the STX?
There is currently no STX to order, lease or test-drive. The concept is useful as a signal of Vauxhall’s intended design direction, especially for readers interested in electric estates, but it cannot yet be compared with production cars on price, range, charging or practicality.
If Vauxhall later announces a production derivative, check whether the announcement confirms the same elements shown by the concept:

- Does it give a model name, launch market and timing?
- Are battery, power, range and charging figures published for a defined version?
- Are the figures independently tested or clearly identified as manufacturer estimates?
- Have the concept’s unusual features survived, been redesigned or been dropped?
- Is the vehicle actually an estate, or has the design influence moved to another body style?
This checklist prevents a concept specification from being mistaken for a customer-car specification.
Bottom line on the Vauxhall STX
The Vauxhall STX is the Sports Tourer eXperimental: an electric, all-wheel-drive estate concept created to explore the brand’s next design direction. Its published concept details include a taller Vizor front, vertical lighting, an illuminated Griffin, flush aerodynamic bodywork, active rear aero, a top speed above 124 mph and 285/35 R22 tyres.
Vauxhall has not confirmed a production STX. The separate 2027 production-model announcement concerns the new Griffin emblem and does not identify that vehicle as the STX. For now, the STX is best understood as a design manifesto and development study whose ideas may influence future Vauxhalls, rather than as a car with a confirmed showroom future.
