The Swincar e-Spider is an unusual electric four-wheeler built around four independently articulated wheels and a tilting cabin. Its lineup has also included a two-seat Tandem and a Mobility version designed around hand controls and wheelchair-transfer access. The published specifications, prices and road-use claims cited here come from a February 2022 article, so treat them as historical rather than current buying or licensing guidance.
What is the Swincar e-Spider?
Swincar is a French maker of electric four-wheelers. In a 2022 article reproduced on Swincar’s official site, New Atlas described the e-Spider as having a hub motor at each wheel and an articulated “pendulum” suspension. Each wheel sits on an individual multi-joint arm with substantial travel, allowing the wheels to follow uneven ground while the cabin remains comparatively steady. The vehicle also leans into turns. New Atlas’s 2022 description offers a useful overview, but does not establish current specifications.
How do the e-Spider, Tandem and Mobility versions differ?
The 2022 article names three variants. It does not provide a complete current specification sheet, so the comparison below is limited to details it actually reports.
| Version | Seating and access | Controls and chassis details | Motor output reported in 2022 |
|---|---|---|---|
| e-Spider | Standard version; passenger capacity not stated in the article. | Variant-specific control or chassis details not stated. | 4 kW (5.3 hp) for the original e-Swincar, as reported by New Atlas in 2022. |
| e-Spider Tandem | Adds a passenger seat. | Separate rear-wheel brake lever and reinforced suspension, according to the 2022 article. | 6 kW (8 hp), described in that article as 50 percent more than the original version. |
| e-Spider Mobility | Designed for drivers with disabilities; optional telescopic links swing the articulated legs outward to 90 degrees to facilitate transfer from a wheelchair. | Reclining rally seat, safety harness and hand-operated controls grouped around the steering wheel. | Not stated in the 2022 article. |
e-Spider: the standard configuration
The article identifies the e-Spider as the standard model. It attributes a 4 kW (5.3 hp) total output and a 30 km/h (18.6 mph) top speed to the original e-Swincar. These are historical claims about that model, not verified current figures for every variant.

e-Spider Tandem: a passenger seat and added output
The Tandem adds a passenger seat, a separate rear-wheel brake lever and suspension reinforcement. New Atlas reported 6 kW (8 hp) total output and characterized that as 50 percent more than the original version. The article does not establish current availability or whether every configuration still uses these specifications.
e-Spider Mobility: controls and transfer access
The Mobility version is intended for drivers with disabilities. Its reported equipment includes a reclining rally seat, safety harness and steering-wheel-area controls arranged for hand operation. Optional telescopic links can swing the articulated legs outward to 90 degrees to facilitate a wheelchair transfer. Confirm options, fit and transfer arrangements directly with Swincar or a local dealer; the 2022 article does not establish current configurations.
What off-road performance did the 2022 article report?
For the original e-Swincar, the article reported 4 kW (5.3 hp), a 30 km/h (18.6 mph) top speed, climbing gradients exceeding 50 percent and lateral travel on gradients over 50 percent. These figures are attributed to New Atlas’s 2022 coverage, not independently verified test results or current specifications for the three variants. The suspension design is the central idea: each wheel can articulate over uneven ground while the cabin stays comparatively steady.

Can you drive a Swincar on public roads?
Road legality depends on the exact vehicle classification and the rules where it will be used. New Atlas reported in February 2022 that Swincar had French approval as an agricultural vehicle (MAGA), with a 25 km/h (15.5 mph) street speed limit. It also reported approval elsewhere in Europe as an L6e-A quadricycle, a category the article described as allowing speeds up to 45 km/h (28 mph), subject to vehicle power. These are dated, attributed descriptions—not a substitute for current regulator guidance. Check the specific model’s classification, registration requirements and permitted use with the relevant authority or dealer in your country.
What did the Swincar cost, and where was it sold?
The 2022 article listed starting prices of €12,500 for the e-Spider and €15,000 for the Tandem; it gave US-dollar equivalents at the time of US$14,200 and US$17,000 respectively. It described Mobility pricing as likely to be a custom proposition. Those figures are historical, not current quotes. The same article reported dealers across several European locations and in Turkey, Dubai, Kenya, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, with some offering rentals. That coverage does not confirm present-day inventory, dealer locations or rental availability. Ask Swincar or a regional dealer for current pricing, options and availability.
Quick Recap
What to verify before buying or arranging a test drive
- Exact variant and equipment: Confirm seating, controls, suspension details and any Mobility transfer options included in the specific vehicle being offered.
- Current specification: Request the current output, speed and performance figures for that configuration rather than relying on 2022 claims about the original model.
- Local road status: Verify classification, registration and road-use rules with the relevant regulator for the country where you plan to ride.
- Price and availability: Get a current quote and confirm whether the vehicle is in stock, made to order, or available to rent locally.
