The Rocketeer MXV6 is a specialist Mazda MX-5 conversion that replaces the factory four-cylinder engine with a Jaguar-derived 3.0-litre V6. Rocketeer offers parts kits, completed conversions and fuller restoration-based builds; output, included work and price depend on the chosen specification. It is not a factory Mazda model.
What is the Rocketeer MXV6?
Rocketeer Cars converts MX-5s to use a Jaguar-derived AJ30 V6, part of the Ford Duratec engine family. The conversion is intended to put six-cylinder performance into the lightweight roadster, but an MXV6 is a modified car rather than a production MX-5 trim. The engine and performance figures vary between builds. Eurekar’s May 2025 report describes a 280 hp standard output and options above 375 hp, while Monochrome Watches’ April 2025 article reports 280 bhp at the lower end and options exceeding 400 bhp. Those accounts use slightly different figures and wording; neither establishes one definitive maximum for every current conversion. - 270 bhp example: Top Gear’s June 2021 feature describes a particular car with 240 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm and a 7,250 rpm ceiling. In its 2020 drive, the outlet estimated that example reached 0–60 mph in the region of six seconds, noting it had not recorded a precise time. It also reported a weight of 1,100 kg for that car. Eurekar reported in 2025 that Rocketeer had installed more than 150 kits and built more than 30 turnkey or RestoMod cars, attributing those figures to the company. They indicate reported production activity, not a measure of reliability or performance. Eurekar
Which Rocketeer build route suits you?
Monochrome’s April 2025 account describes three broad routes. The practical difference is how much work Rocketeer takes on and how much responsibility remains with the owner; the available material does not provide a complete current side-by-side specification.

How much does a Rocketeer MXV6 cost?
Published prices are dated reference points, not current quotations. Monochrome Watches reported on 12 April 2025 that turnkey builds started at £16,995, excluding VAT and the donor car. The same article listed an electronics pack at £1,995 and an engine pack at £5,995; these are reported pack prices, not a complete landed cost. Top Gear’s 2021 article gave an estimate of about £15,000 for a donor car and conversion in the market context at that time. It is an older, separate estimate and should not be treated as a current price or compared directly with the later turnkey starting figure. Top Gear

- Fitment and scope: Confirm which MX-5 generation and donor condition the quote covers, and ask for a clear list of included and excluded parts and labor.
- Supporting hardware: Ask what brake, suspension and other chassis changes are included or recommended for your particular car and intended use.
- Total cost: Establish whether the quote includes the donor car, VAT, ancillary parts, restoration, delivery and any other charges.
- After-sales terms: Get support, warranty coverage, build timing and delivery arrangements in writing.
- Road use: Registration, inspection, emissions and insurance requirements depend on where the car will be used and on its build. Check with the relevant authority and insurer in your jurisdiction before purchasing or modifying a car.
A Rocketeer customer testimonial dated 7 September 2020 mentions considering a roll bar and sill reinforcements and describes Meister R coilovers in that customer’s setup. That is one owner’s experience, not a required Rocketeer parts list or universal fitment advice.
