Peugeot EU-LIVE was a plug-in hybrid light-vehicle demonstrator, not a production scooter offered for sale. Led by Groupe PSA within a European consortium, it paired two rear electric in-wheel motors with a petrol engine and a tilting chassis. The concept was presented as a vehicle between the two- and four-wheel segments—not as a conventional motorcycle or a small car.
What is the Peugeot EU-LIVE?
EU-LIVE was a Groupe PSA-led demonstrator developed through the European EU-LIVE consortium. The project explored a compact, enclosed light vehicle that combined scooter-like tilting with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Groupe PSA described it as sitting between two- and four-wheel vehicle segments. That positioning does not mean it had four wheels: the announcement describes two rear electric in-wheel motors and a tilting vehicle architecture. EU-LIVE is best understood as a technology demonstrator, not a retail Peugeot scooter. Peugeot Motocycles’ current range page lists two- and three-wheel scooters, including the Metropolis, but does not list EU-LIVE or a PHEV scooter. The Metropolis is a separate three-wheel product, not the EU-LIVE under another name.
How does the plug-in hybrid powertrain work?
Groupe PSA described three main components: two electric motors in the rear wheels, a 48-volt battery and a 31-kilowatt single-cylinder petrol engine identified as a PEUGEOT SCOOTERS unit. Samsung SDI designed the battery, which the announcement says can recharge through regenerative braking. Consortium partners Elaphe and Brembo developed the rear in-wheel motors.

Electric operation at lower speeds
According to the 2018 announcement, EU-LIVE runs in zero-emission mode at speeds up to 70 km/h using the two rear electric motors. That is an operating description, not a certified electric range: the announcement does not establish how far the demonstrator could travel on battery power alone.
Petrol propulsion at higher speeds
For inter-urban roads at 70–130 km/h, Groupe PSA said the petrol engine takes over propulsion. The stated speed bands explain the concept’s intended operating behavior; they should not be read as a measured fuel-economy or emissions result.

What does the tilting system do?
The chassis tilts in corners, aiming to give the vehicle handling more like a three-wheel scooter than a fixed, upright four-wheeled car. Groupe PSA’s exact description was: “Its tilting mechanism offers superior handling, making the vehicle as easy to drive as a three-wheel scooter.” The announcement identifies hydraulic components and hydropneumatic suspension in the tilting and roll-control system.
The system was a major part of the demonstrator’s engineering. Groupe PSA said more than half of the 13 patents it had filed related to the tilting and roll-control technology. That figure is the company’s 2018 statement, not a count of patents independently verified here.

Can you buy the Peugeot EU-LIVE?
EU-LIVE is not presented as a production vehicle in the available official material. The 2018 announcement documents a demonstrator, and Peugeot Motocycles’ current range page does not list it. Those sources do not establish a retail price, production schedule or availability in any market, so there is no supported basis to treat EU-LIVE as a scooter you can order.
If you are looking for a current Peugeot three-wheeler, the Metropolis appears in Peugeot Motocycles’ range, but it is a distinct product. The current range page does not establish that it shares EU-LIVE’s plug-in hybrid system or tilting hardware.

How does EU-LIVE differ from Peugeot’s HYbrid3 Evolution concept?
EU-LIVE should not be confused with Peugeot’s earlier HYbrid3 Evolution, a separate three-wheel hybrid scooter concept shown at EICMA in 2009. A secondary report describes HYbrid3 Evolution as using a supercharged 300 cm³ petrol engine and two front electric motors. Those details belong to that earlier concept, not to EU-LIVE, whose 2018 announcement describes two rear electric in-wheel motors and a 31-kilowatt petrol engine.
What did Groupe PSA say about road use and licensing?
Groupe PSA’s 2018 announcement said EU-LIVE could be used on all roads and required only a driving licence. That is a source-era statement, not current legal guidance. Vehicle classification and licence requirements depend on the jurisdiction and the rules in force; the announcement does not establish how a hypothetical production version would be classified today.
