The 79 kWh Mahindra BE 6 managed 439 km in city driving, 459 km on the highway and 449 km overall in an Autocar India road test. That is a useful independent benchmark, not a guarantee for every driver. Mahindra quotes higher certified and manufacturer-test figures, while the 59 kWh version has a different range profile and does not have an equivalent independent test in the available evidence.
Start by separating the three range numbers
Electric-vehicle range figures are easy to misread because certification results, manufacturer estimates and independent road tests measure different things. The Mahindra BE 6 is offered with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs, and each pack has a certified figure as well as manufacturer claims about everyday use.

| Battery and measurement | Published range | What the number means |
|---|---|---|
| 59 kWh, MIDC P1+P2 certification | 557 km | Mahindra brochure certification figure; a laboratory-cycle reference rather than a daily-distance guarantee. |
| 79 kWh, MIDC P1+P2 certification | 683 km | Mahindra brochure certification figure measured on the same certification basis. |
| 59 kWh, Mahindra claimed real-world city range | 400 km | Manufacturer claim published in 2025. |
| 79 kWh, Mahindra claimed real-world city range | 500 km | Manufacturer claim published in 2025. |
| 79 kWh, Mahindra brochure real-world metro claim | 500+ km | Internal testing under moderate ambient temperature, low HVAC use and an optimal drive mode. |
| 79 kWh, independent mixed road test | 449 km | Autocar India result from a test that recorded 439 km in the city and 459 km on the highway. |
The certification figures are useful for comparing vehicles tested under the same official procedure, but they should not be treated as the distance you can always drive between charges. The 500 km and 500+ km numbers are Mahindra claims, with the latter explicitly tied to favorable internal-test conditions. The 449 km result is an observation from one independent test, not a statistical average for all BE 6 owners.
What the independent 79 kWh test actually measured
City result
Autocar India recorded 439 km in its city cycle, with reported consumption of 5.55 km per kWh. The test included substantial idle time, and ambient temperatures touched 40°C. Both factors can increase energy use, particularly when the climate system is operating while the vehicle is stationary.

Highway result
The same 79 kWh car covered 459 km on the highway, at 5.81 km per kWh. Autocar used Range mode and Level 1 regeneration for this part of the test. Highway range is not automatically better than city range: sustained high speeds can consume more energy than slower urban travel, even though there is less stop-and-go traffic.
Combined result and test settings
The reported combined result was 449 km, with overall consumption of 5.68 km per kWh. Autocar used Level 3 regeneration in the city and Level 1 on the highway. Those settings, the route mix, traffic, speed, temperature and climate-control use all form part of the result. A different driver using higher speeds, more air conditioning or a heavier load can obtain a different figure from the same battery.
The available independent dataset covers the 79 kWh BE 6 only. It does not establish a controlled real-world result for the 59 kWh version, so multiplying or proportionally scaling the 79 kWh test is not a reliable way to predict the smaller pack’s range.
How the 59 kWh and 79 kWh versions differ for range planning
| Question | 59 kWh pack | 79 kWh pack |
|---|---|---|
| Certified MIDC P1+P2 range | 557 km | 683 km |
| Mahindra claimed real-world city range | 400 km | 500 km |
| Independent road-test evidence in the available data | No equivalent controlled result established | 439 km city, 459 km highway, 449 km combined |
The larger pack gives more energy to work with, but the range difference you experience will still depend on speed, weather, payload, route elevation, tyres and the way the car is driven. The figures above are not interchangeable: each comes from a different measurement basis, and the independent test applies only to the 79 kWh vehicle.
Driving factors that change BE 6 range
Speed and acceleration
Rapid acceleration draws high power and increases consumption. Mahindra’s owner guidance recommends a steady speed and says its efficiency advice is most favorable below 100 km/h, especially on highways. Its standard highway reference profile allows speeds up to 110 km/h but assumes a typical average speed of up to 70 km/h. Holding a higher cruising speed for long periods can therefore reduce the distance available from the same charge.

Smooth inputs matter more than trying to avoid every brief burst of power. Anticipating traffic, leaving space to coast and avoiding repeated hard launches reduce energy that must later be recovered or supplied again.
Drive mode and regenerative braking
Mahindra’s manual recommends Default or Range mode and regeneration Level 1 or Level 2 for its range guidance. Regeneration sends some energy back to the battery during deceleration, but it cannot recover all the energy used to accelerate, and it does not make uphill driving energy-neutral.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Higher regeneration can make one-pedal-style slowing easier in traffic, while lower regeneration may allow the car to coast more freely. The efficient choice depends on the route and the driver’s smoothness. The important point is to use a consistent setting when comparing your own trips; changing mode and regeneration between journeys makes the consumption figures harder to interpret.
Heating, cooling and stationary time
Cabin climate control and other electrical systems consume energy. Mahindra recommends setting the air conditioner to 23–24°C on Auto, using Economy AC while idle and avoiding long stops with the air conditioner running. A short trip with a long wait can show poor efficiency because the car uses energy even though it is not covering distance.
Pre-conditioning the cabin while connected to a charger can reduce the energy taken from the battery at departure, but the benefit depends on whether the vehicle and charger are actually connected during that period. Once driving, moderate temperature settings and limited idle time remain the practical controls available to the driver.

Ambient temperature
The manual identifies temperatures below 15°C and above 35°C as adverse conditions. Mahindra estimates that temperatures above 35°C can reduce range by up to 25% in city use and up to 15% on highways. Below 15°C, it estimates an impact of up to 15%.
These percentages are manufacturer guidance, not a guaranteed correction factor. The actual effect depends on trip length, cabin temperature, traffic, battery temperature and how long the vehicle remains stationary. A hot day with heavy traffic and continuous cooling can be more demanding than a hot day on a free-flowing road.
Passengers, luggage and roof equipment
More mass requires more energy, particularly during repeated acceleration and on gradients. Mahindra’s manual estimates a 10–15% range reduction for a D+4 loading condition compared with its lighter reference condition. Remove unnecessary luggage and take off roof racks when they are not needed; roof equipment can add aerodynamic drag even when the vehicle is not heavily loaded.
Hills, rain and snow
Uphill driving increases consumption, and Mahindra estimates a 20–25% effect depending on the grade and how long the climb lasts. The descent may return some energy through regeneration, but not all of the energy spent climbing is recovered.
Rain and snow can reduce range through wet-road resistance, lower speeds with more traffic and increased use of climate and defogging systems. Wet conditions can also interrupt or limit regeneration when the tyres cannot safely accept as much deceleration force.

Tyres, alignment and maintenance
Keep the tyres at the recommended pressure and inspect their condition. Incorrect pressure, poor wheel alignment or imbalance can increase rolling resistance and make the car work harder. Mahindra also notes that vehicle error states can affect range. If a warning appears, resolve the underlying issue rather than treating a sudden efficiency drop as normal battery behavior.
Battery age and usage history
Mahindra states that battery performance and estimated drive range can decrease with usage, surroundings, usage patterns and ageing. A gradual reduction over time is a normal capacity and estimation consideration; it is not, by itself, proof of a defect. A sudden, unexplained change accompanied by warnings or charging problems is a different situation and should be assessed by an authorized service provider.
Mahindra’s own reference profiles
The surfaced BE 6 FE owner manual gives indicative ranges of 450–500 km for its city profile and 350–400 km for its general highway profile. These are Mahindra reference values, not independent test results. The conditions include Default or Range mode, Level 1 or Level 2 regeneration, air conditioning at 23–24°C on Auto and a specified speed profile.
The apparent inversion—higher city guidance than highway guidance—is a reminder that speed is a major variable. A slower urban profile can use less energy than a fast highway run, even with more braking and acceleration. Your route may produce the opposite result if city traffic involves long idling, steep gradients or continuous cooling.

How to estimate the range you will actually get
The most useful personal estimate comes from your own routes and consumption, not from a single headline number. Build a small record over several normal trips rather than relying on one unusually easy or difficult journey.

- Record the starting state of charge. Note the battery percentage before leaving, along with the outside temperature, passenger and luggage load, drive mode and regeneration level.
- Use the trip meter and energy display. At the end of the journey, record kilometres travelled and the displayed km/kWh. Keep city and highway trips in separate groups.
- Log conditions that explain outliers. Mark heavy traffic, long idle periods, high-speed cruising, hills, rain, strong air-conditioning use and tyre-pressure issues.
- Calculate a route-specific rate. For a trip, divide distance travelled by the percentage of battery used, then multiply by 100 to obtain a simple full-charge equivalent. This is an estimate based on the portion of the battery you actually used.
- Use a conservative planning buffer. For a long journey, base the plan on your less-efficient normal results rather than your best result. Leave additional margin for weather, detours, queues and the need to reach a charger without driving the battery to its limit.
- Recheck after seasonal changes. Compare hot-weather and cool-weather records separately. A dashboard estimate can move as conditions and recent driving patterns change, so a longer log is more informative than one displayed prediction.
Do not infer a precise 59 kWh real-world number by scaling the 79 kWh road test. Use the same logging method with the vehicle you own or intend to drive.
Planning different kinds of journeys
Daily urban driving
City range is most sensitive to idle time, repeated acceleration, short trips and cabin cooling. Combine errands where practical, avoid leaving the air conditioner running during long waits and use smooth acceleration. If your commute is short, the energy used to cool or heat the cabin can represent a larger share of the trip than it would on a longer drive.
Long highway trips
Use your own consumption at the intended cruising speed, not the certification figure. The manual’s guidance favors steady speeds below 100 km/h, while its reference highway profile allows up to 110 km/h with an average up to 70 km/h. Traffic, headwinds, rain and roof equipment can all move the result away from a previous test.
Mountain or heavily loaded routes
Start with a larger buffer when carrying four passengers and luggage or crossing sustained climbs. The manual’s 10–15% D+4 estimate and 20–25% uphill estimate are indicative ranges, not additive guarantees; the effects overlap with temperature, speed and climate use. Treat them as reasons to plan conservatively rather than as a promise that the car will lose a fixed percentage.
How to interpret a range shortfall
- Small changes after a different route: Check speed, traffic, temperature, air-conditioning use and elevation before suspecting a battery problem.
- Lower efficiency after loading the car: Compare the trip with a similar route and account for passengers, luggage and roof racks.
- A poor result during a heatwave: The manual specifically identifies temperatures above 35°C as adverse, with a larger stated city impact than highway impact.
- Persistent deterioration across similar trips: Verify tyre pressure and alignment, inspect for warning messages and have the vehicle checked if the change is sudden or accompanied by charging or system faults.
- Confusing dashboard estimates: Separate the car’s prediction from measured distance and battery percentage. The estimate changes with recent driving and conditions; your logged results show what your routes are actually requiring.
Edition, market and evidence qualifications
The owner guidance cited here comes from a surfaced 2026 manual labelled BE 6 FE. Equipment, software, battery specification and recommended settings can vary by vehicle edition and market, so confirm the instructions in the manual supplied with your car.
The brochure figures were surfaced in a 2026 search result, with no publication date shown in that result. The Autocar India road-test page was accessed on October 13, 2026, and the available page result did not provide a publication date. These details matter when comparing a later software version, a different market specification or a future vehicle revision.
Mahindra’s President of the Automotive Sector and Joint Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited, Veejay Nakra, said in a January 7, 2025 press release: “With its 79 kWh battery delivering over 500 km of real-world range, customers can be free from range anxiety.” That sentence is a manufacturer statement and should be read alongside the stated test conditions and independent road-test result, not as a universal guarantee.

The practical answer
For the 79 kWh BE 6, plan around your own observed consumption, with the 449 km Autocar mixed result as one useful reference point rather than a promise. The 59 kWh pack has lower published figures and lacks a comparable independent test in the available evidence. Speed, acceleration, regeneration strategy, climate use, temperature, load, hills, weather, tyres, maintenance and battery age can all move the result substantially. Recording km/kWh and battery percentage on your normal routes is the most dependable way to turn published figures into a personal range expectation.
