The Porsche B32 is a rare Volkswagen T3 van fitted with Porsche mechanicals and linked in period-history accounts to support work for the Porsche 959’s Paris-Dakar campaign. A B32 featured in 2022 coverage was advertised for $380,000 in The Drive and €364,900 in Carscoops—not $385,000. Those were historical asking prices, not evidence that the van sold or remains available.
What is the Porsche B32?
The B32 is a Volkswagen T3 van described by The Drive and Carscoops as a Porsche-built or Porsche-identified vehicle, rather than an ordinary T3 with aftermarket badges. The Drive called the featured van a 1985 model; Carscoops described a Porsche VIN and a Carrera-sourced engine. No primary Porsche production record is established in the available reporting, so those identity details are best understood as the outlets’ descriptions.
The B32’s unusual appeal is the combination: a practical Volkswagen van body with a Porsche engine and drivetrain. It is also exceptionally scarce, although published production estimates are not definitive. The Drive reported estimates ranging from seven to 12 examples; Classic Virus repeated a seller’s claim that seven were built. Neither establishes an authoritative production total.
Why did Porsche build a VW van?
The reported backstory connects the B32 to Porsche’s Paris-Dakar work with the 959. The Drive says the van served as a support vehicle for the endurance-racing effort, while Classic Virus also repeats the support-vehicle account. Both are secondary reporting, not a factory record confirming the vehicle’s exact role.

The Drive further reported that the featured example was built for then-Porsche CEO Peter W. Schutz. Classic Virus says the seller attributed it to Schutz. That is notable provenance, but it remains a reported account rather than independently verified documentation.
What Porsche equipment and performance were reported?
The Drive described a 3.2-liter flat-six from a 911 3.2 Carrera, paired with a Porsche 915 five-speed manual transaxle. Its account also lists chassis and drivetrain changes intended to handle the installation and improve performance.

The Drive said the interior was broadly like T3 Carat trim, with a 911 steering wheel and additional gauges.

The available November 2022 coverage does not support the exact $385,000 figure in the headline. The Drive reported a $380,000 asking price on November 15, 2022. Carscoops, writing two days earlier, reported a European listing at €364,900 and rendered that as approximately $364,553.

| Outlet and date | Reported asking price | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| The Drive, November 15, 2022 | $380,000 | A reported asking price at that time |
| Carscoops, November 13, 2022 | €364,900 (approximately $364,553 in the article) | A reported European listing price at that time |
The different currencies and amounts should not be silently combined into a single price. Neither report proves a completed sale, and the available sources do not establish a current listing or present-day value. The Drive also said the featured van needed door cards and paint work; its article does not provide a complete inspection or restoration record. A buyer evaluating a similar vehicle would need to verify its identity, provenance, mechanical specification, condition and any asking price against the actual car and its records.
