The JAS Tensei is a 35-car, road-going supercar from JAS Motorsport that reworks the first-generation Honda NSX. It uses the 1990s NSX platform, a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre JUDD V6, an all-carbon-fibre body and a Pininfarina-designed exterior and interior. It is not a new Honda production model or an official Honda successor to the NSX.
JAS announced the name in December 2025 and presented the car as a modern “rebirth” of the original NSX concept. JAS planned the public debut for the Paris Motor Show on 12–18 October 2026; ANSA reported on 8 October that Unit 001 had been revealed and all 35 cars had been sold. The published specifications remain manufacturer claims, and one important output figure differs between sources.

What is the JAS Tensei?
The Tensei is JAS Motorsport’s first high-performance road car. JAS describes it as an ultra-modern reinterpretation of the first-generation Honda NSX, retaining the original car’s mid-engine character while replacing much of its bodywork, powertrain and chassis hardware. Italian design house Pininfarina is responsible for the styling of the body and cabin, while JAS says the engineering draws on its competition experience.
“Tensei” means “rebirth” in Japanese. JAS announced the name on 2 December 2025 and used the word to explain the project’s purpose: revive the identity of the 1990s NSX in a contemporary, low-volume grand tourer. That description matters because the Tensei is a specialist conversion and continuation-style project, not a car developed or sold by Honda as part of its current model range.

Is the JAS Tensei a Honda NSX?
It is NSX-based, but it is not a factory Honda NSX. JAS is using the first-generation NSX platform as the foundation and substantially revising the car around it. The Tensei’s relationship to Honda is therefore similar to a highly engineered restomod: the donor architecture supplies the lineage and basic layout, while JAS and its suppliers create the new body, engine installation, suspension specification, braking package, aero and interior.
Honda’s own history places the first NSX’s design work in 1985 and its market launch in 1990. Honda described it as the company’s first full mid-engine sports car, with a driver-focused objective that combined confident control with everyday comfort. A 2005 Honda release described an all-aluminium monocoque and recorded more than 18,000 NSX sales worldwide by the end of June 2005. Honda discontinued production in 2005. Those figures describe historical production and sales, not the number of surviving cars or their current values.
The Tensei deliberately keeps recognizable first-generation cues, including the pop-up-headlamp form, but the underlying execution is modernized. Carbon-fibre panels replace the original aluminium bodywork, and the lamps reportedly use LED Matrix technology with lightweight aluminium mechanisms. Calling it an NSX “rebirth” describes the design intent; calling it a new Honda model would be inaccurate.

Engine, transmission and published performance figures
JAS’s current specification lists a 3.5-litre JUDD Power engine producing 420 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is naturally aspirated and built with competition-style hardware, including a billet crankshaft, forged lightweight pistons and connecting rods, six individual throttle bodies, fly-by-wire control and an 8,500-rpm limiter.
ANSA’s report from 8 October 2026 describes the engine as a naturally aspirated V6 rated at 425 CV. It also reports a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. JAS’s visible specification confirms a manual transmission but does not state the number of forward gears in that text.

These figures should not be silently merged. CV and bhp are different units, so “425 CV” should not be rewritten as “425 bhp.” The difference between JAS’s 420 bhp and ANSA’s 425 CV may result from rounding or reporting conventions, but the cited sources do not reconcile it. Neither source supplies an independently measured dyno result, acceleration time, top speed or instrumented lap time.

The combination suggests a high-revving, response-focused powertrain rather than a turbocharged torque strategy. However, the available material does not establish the Tensei’s final curb weight, power-to-weight ratio, emissions certification or road-test performance.

JAS lists KW coilover suspension with dynamic damping control, revised suspension geometry and a front-axle lift system. It specifies Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, grooved discs and forged aluminium wheels. Carbon-ceramic brakes are optional. Wheel sizes are listed as 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, with forged magnesium wheels available as an option.
ANSA adds more structural detail: double wishbones at the front, a multilink rear suspension and electronically controlled KW dampers. It also reports a flat floor and an active rear diffuser. These additions indicate that JAS is not simply fitting a new body to an untouched donor car; the suspension kinematics, aerodynamic underside and damper control are being developed as part of the Tensei package.
- Suspension: KW coilovers, electronically controlled damping and revised geometry.
- Ride-height control: a front-axle lift system intended to help clear ramps and other obstacles.
- Brakes: Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers with grooved discs; carbon-ceramic hardware is optional.
- Wheels: 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged aluminium wheels, with forged magnesium wheels offered as an option.
- Aerodynamics: a flat floor and active rear diffuser, according to ANSA.
All of these are published specifications or reported details, not independently verified test results. The sources do not provide downforce figures, brake-distance measurements, suspension rates or a comparison with a standard NSX.

Body design and the pop-up-headlamp link
The body is made from carbon fibre, replacing the first-generation NSX’s aluminium exterior panels. JAS’s August 2026 update described the images as representative of the final production appearance. Pininfarina shaped the exterior to preserve the visual character of the original car while giving it modern proportions and aerodynamic treatment.
The most obvious historical reference is the retained pop-up-lamp silhouette. The mechanism is not simply carried over unchanged: ANSA reports LED Matrix internals and lightweight aluminium mechanisms. This creates a visual connection to the 1990s car while allowing contemporary lighting technology.
The flat floor and active rear diffuser are less visible links to the past. They are intended to manage airflow beneath and behind the car, but no verified aerodynamic performance numbers have been published. The Tensei’s carbon construction should not be taken as proof of a particular weight saving because JAS has not stated a final vehicle mass.
Interior and personalization
Pininfarina also designed the interior, while JAS says it is produced with an unnamed industry partner. JAS advertises hundreds of possible cockpit combinations, implying that customers can specify a highly individualized cabin rather than choose from a short standard trim list.
The interior is part of the Tensei’s grand-touring brief: the project is presented as a road car intended to combine an analogue manual-driving experience with a more contemporary finish. The available information does not specify the infotainment system, seat construction, luggage capacity, air-conditioning hardware, driver-assistance equipment or the precise number of personalization choices. “Hundreds of combinations” is JAS’s description of the program, not a published configurator count independently audited by a third party.

How many JAS Tensei cars will be built?
JAS announced a limited run of 35 cars. That is the planned production cap, not an estimate of how many donor NSXs remain available. ANSA reported on 8 October 2026 that all 35 had been sold and that the global reveal of Unit 001 had taken place. The sell-out statement belongs to that dated ANSA report; JAS’s announcements establish the 35-car series and the planned launch schedule.
JAS said it had been Honda’s official motorsport partner for almost 30 years and claimed involvement in more than 900 race wins and over 100 major championship titles, including the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship Manufacturers’ crown. Those are JAS’s own figures and describe its motorsport record, not independently verified Tensei road-car testing.

JAS initially promised a public launch in the second half of 2026. Its August update scheduled the public debut for the Paris Motor Show, held from 12 to 18 October 2026. The October ANSA report appeared before those show dates and said the global reveal had already occurred.
JAS named Graham Rahal Performance as its official sales and customer-service partner in the United States and Pfaff Reserve for Canada. The Tensei site lists SPS Automotive Hong Kong for Asia and says JAS manages European sales. These are regional sales contacts, not evidence of an affiliate, referral or commission arrangement.

What is known—and what remains unconfirmed
The strongest confirmed picture is a very limited, NSX-platform road car with a carbon-fibre body, Pininfarina design, a naturally aspirated JUDD V6 and extensively revised running gear. Several details that buyers and collectors normally need are still absent from the published information.
- Established: 35-car planned production, NSX platform, carbon-fibre body, Pininfarina design involvement, manual transmission, published engine hardware, suspension and brake specifications, and the named regional sales contacts.
- Reported but source-specific: 425 CV, six-speed transmission, rear-wheel drive, flat floor, active diffuser, LED Matrix pop-up lamps and the 8 October sell-out claim come from ANSA’s report.
- Not established in the available material: official price, final curb weight, acceleration, top speed, independently measured power, homologation by country, emissions data, delivery schedule and remaining availability.
This distinction is important when comparing the Tensei with an original NSX or another restomod. A specification sheet can show hardware and intent, but it cannot establish road performance, durability or registration status without test data and market documentation.
How to compare the Tensei with an original NSX
A useful comparison starts with the donor and the extent of the transformation, rather than horsepower alone.

For any performance comparison, use independently instrumented tests conducted under comparable conditions. No such Tensei results are established here, so it would be misleading to rank it against a standard NSX on acceleration, cornering or lap time.
Why the Tensei matters to NSX enthusiasts
The project occupies a narrow space between restoration, restomod and coachbuilt supercar. It preserves the first NSX’s mid-engine identity and visual signatures while replacing the original car’s body panels and much of its dynamic hardware. The manual gearbox, high-revving naturally aspirated engine and pop-up-lamp reference address the qualities enthusiasts most readily associate with the early NSX, while carbon fibre, active aerodynamics and electronically managed dampers move the package into modern specialist-supercar territory.
Its rarity is also part of the proposition. With only 35 planned cars, the Tensei is closer to a bespoke collector project than to a mass-market successor. That scarcity does not, by itself, establish future value or investment performance. It simply explains why availability, documentation and the condition of each donor and finished car will matter so much to prospective owners.
