The offering pairs vehicle-side update capability with a backend campaign-management layer. Elektrobit describes EB cadian as a toolchain for secure over-the-air software and firmware updates. In the joint announcement, Airbiquity’s OTAmatic is the named platform for securely orchestrating and automating update campaigns.

“Pre-integrated” describes the companies’ joint offering, not a claim that every OEM deployment is turnkey or identical. The public announcement names the two platforms and their roles but does not specify a universal vehicle configuration, deployment schedule or current availability.
How EB cadian updates vehicle ECUs over the air
The update process spans the backend and the vehicle. Campaign services manage software packages and update campaigns; in-vehicle OTA components carry out the work across ECUs. Elektrobit’s portfolio includes backend services, an OTA client and onboard components for campaign planning, execution and status tracking.

- Prepare and manage the campaign: The backend manages software packages and campaigns. The public description does not prescribe a particular OEM approval workflow or release schedule.
- Deliver the package: Elektrobit documents both push and pull package delivery. The appropriate approach depends on how the system is configured; the announcement does not identify one as mandatory for the joint offering.
- Install on the vehicle: Onboard OTA components execute updates across ECUs. The scope described by Elektrobit includes vehicle and ECU configurations as well as security patches.

Elektrobit describes standardized UCM Master functions for managing software on Adaptive AUTOSAR systems. UCM refers to the standardized update-management functionality; it is distinct from OTAmatic’s backend campaign-orchestration role.

EB cadian supports Linux-based Adaptive AUTOSAR systems and is designed to integrate with different cloud backends. Elektrobit’s OTA scope is broader than an update to one isolated ECU: its announcement says OEMs can update ECUs and deploy software and firmware updates across the vehicle platform. The portfolio also covers vehicle and ECU configurations and security patches.

That broad scope should not be read as evidence that every ECU, software component or vehicle configuration is updated in a single operation. The available descriptions establish vehicle-platform reach and ECU update capability, but do not specify compatibility with every ECU or a single all-at-once installation mode.
Elektrobit’s January 30, 2023 announcement for the EB corbos Starter Kit added EB cadian Sync UCM Master for standardized OTA installation, updating and removal on Adaptive AUTOSAR architectures. This is ecosystem context for Adaptive AUTOSAR integration, not a statement about the current availability of the Airbiquity joint offering.

Bandwidth, downtime and modularity considerations
Elektrobit documents differential-update support through Adaptive AUTOSAR. Differential updates are intended to reduce the amount of data that needs to be delivered compared with sending a complete package, but the public material cited here gives no measured savings or download-time figures.
A/B updates are described as a way to avoid vehicle downtime. The description identifies the intended benefit, but does not quantify downtime reduction or establish that every deployment uses A/B updates. Likewise, compatibility with different cloud backends and the portfolio’s separate backend, client and onboard components point to integration flexibility; they do not establish support for every cloud environment or a fixed modular configuration.

What to evaluate before an OEM deployment
For an automaker assessing the architecture, the key question is how the layers fit the vehicle program—not simply whether OTA is supported. Confirm the scope and operating details with the vendors for the intended platform.
- Vehicle and ECU coverage: Identify which ECUs, configurations and software types are in scope, and whether updates are coordinated across the vehicle or applied in separate campaigns.
- Backend responsibilities: Establish how campaign orchestration, package management, delivery and status reporting are divided between OTAmatic, Elektrobit components and the OEM’s existing systems.
- Platform compatibility: Verify the target Linux-based Adaptive AUTOSAR environment, UCM Master integration and any vehicle-specific constraints.
- Recovery policy: Define when rollback is invoked and how the system behaves if an update is interrupted or fails; the public descriptions do not provide these deployment-level policies.
- Delivery and downtime: Determine whether push or pull delivery, differential packages and A/B updating fit the connectivity and vehicle-availability requirements of the program.
- Security and governance: Clarify the project’s security controls, campaign approvals and operational responsibilities. The announcement characterizes the solution as secure but does not publish detailed implementation controls.
- Cloud and modular integration: Check which backend integrations and component combinations are supported for the specific deployment rather than assuming universal compatibility.
How the other Elektrobit ecosystem references fit
Elektrobit’s EB corbos Starter Kit is a separate Adaptive AUTOSAR context: its January 30, 2023 announcement included EB cadian Sync UCM Master for standardized installation, updating and removal. Continental’s CAEdge announcement described a combined high-performance-computing and Elektrobit software platform that included OTA updates. Neither reference changes the roles named in the EB cadian–OTAmatic joint announcement, and neither alone establishes details or current availability for that offering.
