The Desmosedici Stradale is Ducati’s high-performance, liquid-cooled 90-degree V4 motorcycle engine. Its appeal comes from a distinctive combination of four-cylinder architecture, a counter-rotating crankshaft, desmodromic valve timing and racing-derived design—not from proof that it outperforms every rival. In the MY25 Panigale V4, Ducati lists 1,103 cc and, for the UK version, 216 hp at 13,500 rpm.
What is the Desmosedici Stradale?
It is Ducati’s 90-degree V4 engine, used in versions of the Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4. Ducati describes its design as racing-derived. That description conveys the engine’s engineering inspiration; it does not mean the road-going engine is identical to a MotoGP engine.
The name refers to the engine family, not one identical specification fitted unchanged to every motorcycle. Output and other details depend on the model, year and market.
What makes its design distinctive?
90-degree V4 layout
The engine has four cylinders arranged in two banks at a 90-degree angle. That configuration is one part of the package; cylinder count alone does not explain how an engine performs.

Counter-rotating crankshaft
Ducati lists a counter-rotating crankshaft for Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 engine specifications. It is a deliberate design feature, but the specification pages do not quantify a handling advantage, so it should not be treated as a measured benefit on its own.
Desmodromic valve timing
Ducati’s desmodromic system mechanically controls both valve opening and closing. It is a defining feature of the engine, but that description does not establish that valve-related maintenance is eliminated.

- A kickstand, exhaust pipe, windshield & dashboard add the little details that make this superbike model toy so true to the full-size version
- The classic red colour scheme brings the motorcycle to life with true Italian flair; display the sleek silhouette on the Ducati racing stand
Variable-length intake
Ducati lists variable-length intake on the Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 engine pages; the Streetfighter page specifically highlights variable-length funnels. This is an engine-tuning feature, not proof by itself of a particular acceleration result.
How much power does it make?
There is no single figure that applies to every Desmosedici Stradale-equipped bike. Ducati publishes different Panigale V4 figures for different markets, and the Streetfighter V4 has its own model-specific specification.

| Motorcycle and specification | Displacement | Peak power | Peak torque | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MY25 Panigale V4, UK | 1,103 cc | 216 hp at 13,500 rpm | 120.9 Nm at 11,250 rpm | Ducati UK specification |
| Panigale V4, US/Canada/Mexico specification | 1,103 cc | 209 hp at 12,750 rpm | 121.3 Nm at 11,250 rpm | Ducati specification |
| MY25 Streetfighter V4, UK | not stated on the cited engine page | 214 hp at 13,500 rpm | 120 Nm at 11,250 rpm | Ducati UK specification |
These are Ducati’s published specifications, not independent dyno measurements. The Panigale figures should not be combined or compared without keeping their market labels attached: Ducati lists different power and torque numbers for the UK and US/Canada/Mexico specifications.
Why do the Panigale and Streetfighter figures differ?
They are different motorcycles with distinct roles and specifications. The Panigale V4 is Ducati’s sportbike, while the Streetfighter V4 is its naked-bike counterpart. For the MY25 UK versions, Ducati lists 216 hp for the Panigale and 214 hp for the Streetfighter, with peak torque of 120.9 Nm and 120 Nm respectively. Those are manufacturer figures for those models and that market, not results from a head-to-head test.

What does Ducati say the hype is about?
Ducati calls its 90-degree V4 “the ultimate expression of sports attitude for a motorcycle engine.” That is the manufacturer’s positioning, rather than an independent comparison with rival engines. The technical case behind the attention is the combination of the V4 layout, counter-rotating crankshaft, desmodromic valve timing, variable-length intake and high-rpm output in current Panigale and Streetfighter applications.
What about emissions and fuel consumption?
Ducati’s UK MY25 Panigale V4 page lists 151 g/km CO2 and consumption of 6.5 l/100 km. These are published figures for that specific model and market, not universal figures for all Desmosedici Stradale versions or a promise of real-world economy. Ducati also identifies Euro 5+ compliance for relevant current configurations; check the applicable market and model page for the exact version.

The manufacturer pages establish the engine’s architecture, selected equipment and model-specific output figures. They do not establish that the engine is categorically faster, smoother, more reliable or better than every competitor. They also do not provide comparative maintenance costs, long-term reliability evidence, owner satisfaction data or verified real-world fuel economy.
