Harley-Davidson’s Japan pages identify the X350 (353 cc) and X500 (500 cc) as the company’s small-displacement models for 2026. A Harley-Davidson dealer in Chiryū reported that both ended with the 2026 model year on August 31, 2026, yet Harley-Davidson Japan’s official listing and product pages still display them. The status is therefore unresolved, and no reviewed source gives an official reason for an alleged Japan discontinuation.
What were Harley-Davidson’s smallest bikes?
For the Japan-market models documented in the available official material, the answer is the X350 and X500. Harley-Davidson Japan’s 2026 motorcycle listing shows both names, while their individual product pages identify their engine sizes and manufacturer suggested retail prices (MSRPs).

That answer needs a boundary: these sources do not establish a complete all-time ranking of every Harley-Davidson motorcycle by displacement, nor do they provide a definitive Japan timeline for every small model. They do document the current X-series entries and the earlier Street 500 and Street 750. It is more accurate to call the X350 and X500 the smallest models shown in the cited 2026 Japan range than to claim they were the smallest motorcycles Harley-Davidson has ever made.

The Japan X350 product page labels the motorcycle a 2026 model and lists a 353 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. It gives a manufacturer suggested retail price of ¥699,800 or more. The page directs prospective buyers to an authorized dealer for detailed pricing, so the figure should be treated as a manufacturer-published MSRP rather than a guaranteed drive-away price.

Harley-Davidson describes the styling as inspired by the XR750. Its Japanese marketing line reads 「軽量にして俊敏。このマシンは道を選ばない。」, translated as “Light and nimble. This machine does not choose its road.” That is advertising copy from Harley-Davidson, not an independent test result or a named rider’s assessment.
Harley-Davidson X500
The Japan X500 product page also labels the bike a 2026 model. It lists a 500 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine and a manufacturer MSRP of ¥839,800 or more. As with the X350, the page says buyers should contact an authorized dealer for price details. The published price and the presence of the model on a website are time-sensitive; neither guarantees that a particular dealer has an unregistered motorcycle available.
At-a-glance specifications shown by Harley-Davidson Japan
| Model | Model-year label | Engine listed on Japan page | Manufacturer MSRP shown | What the page establishes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| X350 | 2026 | 353 cc, liquid-cooled parallel twin | ¥699,800+ | Manufacturer-published specification, price and product presentation |
| X500 | 2026 | 500 cc, liquid-cooled parallel twin | ¥839,800+ | Manufacturer-published specification, price and product presentation |
The table reflects the wording on Harley-Davidson Japan’s pages, not independent measurements. A “+” after each price matters: the page presents an MSRP starting at that amount and tells shoppers to confirm details with a dealer.

Harley-Davidson’s own documentation records a previous Street family below the larger traditional cruisers. The company’s 2020 Street models owner manual names the Street 500 as XG500 and the Street 750 as XG750. The 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle catalog also presents Street 500 and Street 750 models.

Those documents prove that the Street 500 and Street 750 existed as Harley-Davidson models. They do not, by themselves, prove the exact Japanese model years, Japanese sales volume, or the date and reason either model ended in Japan. A responsible history therefore separates documented model names from an unverified Japan-specific discontinuation story.
| Earlier model | Harley-Davidson documentation | What can be said about Japan from the cited material |
|---|---|---|
| Street 500 (XG500) | Named in the 2020 owner manual and listed in the 2019 catalog | Japan-specific model years, sales and end date are not stated in those sources |
| Street 750 (XG750) | Named in the 2020 owner manual and listed in the 2019 catalog | Japan-specific model years, sales and end date are not stated in those sources |
Because the source set does not cover every historical Harley-Davidson market or prototype, it cannot support a claim that the Street 500 was the company’s all-time smallest motorcycle. It supports a narrower, verifiable point: the Street 500/XG500 and Street 750/XG750 were documented predecessors in Harley-Davidson’s Street range, while the X350 and X500 are the smaller models displayed on the 2026 Japan site.
Was the X350 discontinued in Japan?
The evidence is contradictory rather than conclusive. On August 31, 2026, Harley-Davidson Chiryū published a dealer notice saying that the X350 and X500 were discontinued with the 2026 model year. The notice also said new and used units had fallen substantially, but it supplied no count, sales table or manufacturer-wide inventory data.

At the same time, Harley-Davidson Japan’s official model listing and the individual X350 and X500 pages continue to display 2026 versions. That could represent a live offer, a page that had not yet been revised, or a distinction between production status and remaining dealer availability. The cited pages do not explain which interpretation is correct.

What each source actually establishes
- Official Japan listing: X350 and X500 appear in the 2026 model range shown online.
- Official X350 page: a 2026 label, 353 cc specification, ¥699,800+ MSRP and marketing description.
- Official X500 page: a 2026 label, 500 cc specification and ¥839,800+ MSRP.
- Chiryū dealer notice: the dealer reports an end with model year 2026 for both motorcycles.
A dealer’s statement should not be rewritten as a company-wide announcement. Until Harley-Davidson Japan confirms the status, the most precise wording is that a Japanese authorized dealer reported a 2026-model-year end while the manufacturer’s Japan pages still list the bikes.
Why were the Harley-Davidson X350 and X500 discontinued?
No reviewed source states an official reason. The Chiryū notice does not explain why it considers the models ended, and the official Japan pages do not publish a discontinuation announcement or rationale.
That means several commonly repeated explanations remain unverified in this evidence set. It is not established that weak demand, emissions rules, production economics, a strategic change, or poor sales caused an end in Japan. The dealer’s comment about substantially lower new and used units is qualitative and is not a published statistic. No named source provides Japanese sales totals, market-share data or an inventory count for either motorcycle.
There is also no evidence here that Harley-Davidson replaced the X350 or X500 with a specific successor. A newer or larger motorcycle appearing elsewhere in the global range would not, on its own, prove a Japan-market replacement. Readers should treat “replacement” as an unanswered question unless Harley-Davidson Japan identifies one.

Is the X350 still available in Japan?
Availability cannot be answered with a simple yes or no from the conflicting pages. The official site’s 2026 listing shows the model, while the Chiryū dealer says the 2026 model year ended. A web listing can remain online after production, allocation or ordering changes, and a dealer can have inventory after a manufacturer stops building a model.
Use the following check before treating an X350 or X500 as obtainable:
- Open the current Harley-Davidson Japan model listing and the relevant product page. Note the displayed model year and the date you checked.
- Contact a Harley-Davidson Japan authorized dealer and ask whether the motorcycle can still be ordered, whether a new unit is physically allocated, and whether the quoted price is for a new, registered, demonstrator or used bike.
- Ask the dealer to distinguish remaining 2026 inventory from future production. A remaining unit can exist even if no additional motorcycles are being built for Japan.
- Confirm the written price, registration charges, delivery costs, warranty terms and any campaign conditions. The product pages publish MSRP, not a complete on-road transaction total.
- If the answer differs from the website, record the dealer’s date and wording. Model-year pages and inventory systems can change, so an older screenshot is not proof of current stock.
Harley-Davidson Japan’s company profile describes the subsidiary’s motorcycle, parts and accessory business. That supports using an authorized dealer for a current status check, but it does not resolve the specific X350/X500 discontinuation conflict.

The available documentation supports a factual history comparison, not a performance ranking or value recommendation. The X350 and X500 have current Japan-page specifications and prices; the Street models are documented in older company publications without equivalent Japan pricing in the cited material.

How to report the Japan situation accurately
Coverage of this subject often becomes misleading when three separate ideas are collapsed into one sentence: a model appearing on a website, a dealer saying the model year has ended, and the manufacturer formally discontinuing a motorcycle nationwide. Keep those ideas separate.
- Say “Harley-Davidson Japan’s 2026 pages list the X350 and X500” when describing the official web evidence.
- Say “Harley-Davidson Chiryū reported an end with the 2026 model year” when describing the dealer notice.
- Do not say “Harley-Davidson Japan officially discontinued them” unless the company publishes a confirmation.
- Do not attach a cause to the alleged discontinuation without a named, attributable statement from Harley-Davidson.
- Do not present the dealer’s qualitative inventory comment as a sales statistic.
This wording also prevents a common historical mistake: treating the documented Street 500 and Street 750 as proof of a complete, Japan-specific sequence of replacements. The sources show model names and conflicting status evidence, not a full product-line chronology.

What readers should take away
The X350 and X500 are the smallest Harley-Davidson motorcycles shown on the cited 2026 Japan pages, at 353 cc and 500 cc respectively. The earlier Street 500/XG500 and Street 750/XG750 are documented in Harley-Davidson’s own 2019 catalog and 2020 owner manual. A Chiryū dealer reported that the X-series pair ended with model year 2026, but the manufacturer’s Japan pages still list them, so a Japan-wide discontinuation is not confirmed by the available evidence. No official reason has been published, and no specific replacement has been established.
Prices, model-year labels and inventory can change. Anyone considering one should verify the live listing and obtain a current written answer from a Harley-Davidson Japan authorized dealer before treating either motorcycle as orderable or available.
