What happened when Coolpeds appeared on Shark Tank?
Tony Chan pitched Coolpeds in Season 9, Episode 23, which aired February 18, 2018. He asked for $250,000 in exchange for 5% of the company, implying a $5 million valuation. No Shark invested.
Recaps describe the Sharks raising concerns about the scooter market, Coolpeds’ focus on both the briefcase scooter and the Ampere electric-car concept, and the company’s ability to execute. In the televised-pitch recap, Mark Cuban’s reaction was reported as: “They’re selling cool,” followed by “I’d be a fool to sell cool.”
Shark Tank Blog reported that Coolpeds said it had made about $500,000 in sales during the preceding 18 months. SlashGear’s 2025 retrospective reported a roughly $399 retail price and $170 manufacturing cost. These are historical figures attributed to company claims or retrospective reporting, not audited financial results.

What was the Coolpeds briefcase scooter?
It paired a small electric scooter with a briefcase or carry-on shell, aiming to help with short urban trips, campus travel, and connections to transit, offices, or airports. The idea was to combine a personal last-mile vehicle with luggage that could be carried when the rider reached a destination.
The figures vary by version and source. SlashGear’s account of the televised pitch describes an 11-pound scooter without the luggage attachment and a speed of 7–15 mph. The 2016 Indiegogo campaign listed a different set of campaign-era specifications. Those campaign figures should not be treated as verified specifications for a later retail model.
| Version or report | Reported figures | What the figures describe |
|---|---|---|
| Televised pitch, as reported by SlashGear (2025) | 11 lb without the luggage attachment; 7–15 mph | Figures attributed to the scooter shown and described on the show. |
| Indiegogo campaign (2016) | Up to 20 km/h (about 12 mph); up to 10 km range; about 7.9 kg; 24 V/6 Ah lithium-ion battery; 2–3 hours to charge | Campaign-era specifications; the campaign also said the battery could be replaced. |
| Indiegogo campaign rewards (2016) | $468–$599 | Campaign reward prices, not evidence of a current retail price. |
| SlashGear website observation (2025) | A legacy briefcase listing with a claimed $699 price | A listing observed in a retrospective, not confirmation of dependable current inventory. |
Indiegogo’s campaign described the Briefcase as a “high-quality carry-on suitcase with a built-in electric scooter”; that wording was the company’s marketing, not an independent assessment.

What happened to Coolpeds after the show?
Crowdfunding and fulfillment complaints
Later accounts from SlashGear and Shark Tank Blog describe complaints involving incomplete or defective deliveries tied to Chan’s crowdfunding projects, refund requests, and loss of access to the crowdfunding platform. These reports indicate serious fulfillment problems, but they do not establish the outcome of every individual order or refund request.
The company promoted more than one product
Coolpeds also promoted the Ampere electric-car concept and other scooters. The broader lineup differed from the briefcase scooter that viewers saw on the show, and Shark Tank recaps report that the Sharks questioned the company’s focus.
Reports point to a fading business
SlashGear’s 2025 retrospective found a sparse website and a legacy product listing. Shark Tank Companies, by contrast, reports no company website, no Amazon presence, and an out-of-business status. Shark Tank Tales’ December 2025 update describes the brand as functionally defunct, citing persistent complaints, refunds, fulfillment problems, and minimal support activity. Taken together, these reports do not support treating the legacy listing as proof that the scooter is currently available from a dependable seller.

Can you still buy the Coolpeds briefcase scooter?
The available reporting does not establish a reliable, active source for buying a new Coolpeds Briefcase. The differing website snapshots and the report of no Amazon presence make an old listing or third-party offer an uncertain basis for a purchase. A listing by itself does not confirm that a product is in stock, that the seller is authorized, or that the buyer can get support, replacement parts, or a refund.
If considering a used unit, ask the seller to demonstrate that it powers on and runs, and confirm what is included: scooter, luggage shell, charger, and battery. Because later reporting describes weak support and fulfillment problems, do not assume that a replacement battery, repair, warranty service, or refund will be available.

Is Coolpeds still in business?
The strongest available status descriptions are that Coolpeds is out of business, according to Shark Tank Companies, or functionally defunct, according to Shark Tank Tales’ December 2025 update. The cited reporting does not establish a formal dissolution date or provide a definitive closure statement from Tony Chan. “Functionally defunct” is therefore a reported practical assessment, not a confirmed legal status.
