Ken Miles’s Ford GT40 was chassis P/1015, a 1966 GT40 Mk II. Miles and co-driver Denny Hulme officially finished second at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 18–19, 1966. The car survives: the Miller Family Automobile Foundation owns it, and the Shelby American Collection identifies it as being on loan.
Which GT40 did Ken Miles drive at Le Mans?
Miles drove chassis P/1015, a 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II, with Denny Hulme. The Shelby American Collection’s P/1015 history identifies the car, its race record and its loan status. The Henry Ford explains that the Mk II was distinguished by its larger 427-cubic-inch V-8; its account of Ford at Le Mans also records Miles’s second-place result.

P/1015 had already won the 1966 Daytona race with Miles and Lloyd Ruby. Its later record included non-finishes at Daytona and Le Mans in 1967, according to the Shelby collection. It is distinct from the Le Mans-winning P/1046 and third-place P/1016.

Late in the 1966 race, Ford’s leading cars were running close together. Ford executives and team leaders discussed bringing them across the finish line together, and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) initially indicated that a tie might be possible. Ford’s historical account of the finish says the team then learned that a tie would not be recognized: because Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon’s car had started eight metres behind Miles and Hulme’s, it would be credited with covering more distance if the cars crossed together.

The cars crossed in tandem, with a third Ford close behind. The ACO classified McLaren and Amon first, and Miles and Hulme second; Miles was sent away from the winner’s podium. The 24 Hours of Le Mans’ retrospective on the 1966 race describes Ford’s 1–2–3 sweep.
Was Miles robbed of the win?
That is an interpretation, not the official result. The formation finish and the dispute over how a tie would be handled are real, but the ACO’s classification remains McLaren and Amon first, Miles and Hulme second. Ford’s account describes debate over the tie rule; it does not change the recorded result. The useful distinction is that Miles may have been denied the finish he expected, but he did not officially win the race.

Where is P/1015 now?
The Miller Family Automobile Foundation acquired P/1015 in 1999, according to the foundation’s July 10, 2026 announcement. The foundation says it stewards all three 1966 Le Mans podium cars and intends to preserve, research and publicly exhibit them. The Shelby American Collection lists P/1015 as on loan from the foundation.
The foundation announced appearances for P/1015 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, July 9–12, 2026, and Goodwood Revival, September 18–20, 2026. Those events have passed. The available information does not establish the car’s day-to-day display location after them, so its present loan and exhibit status may change.
