Police said smoke from a nearby fire reduced visibility and contributed to the collision. The exact crash date is not established in the reports.
How the collision happened
PerthNow and 7NEWS reported on 30 April 2021 that the crash occurred just after 3 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon. The reports describe police dash-camera footage showing one truck slowing on Albany Highway and a second truck hitting it from behind. A private firefighting unit was on the roadside, while smoke from a nearby fire crossed the road and reduced visibility. PerthNow quoted Williams Police as saying: “Smoke across the road caused poor visibility contributing to the collision.”
The reports were published on 30 April 2021, but that publication date does not establish the calendar date of the crash. The footage and police wording describe the reported sequence and contributing conditions; they do not, by themselves, establish a legal finding of fault.
What was reported about injuries
PerthNow quoted Williams Police as saying: “Luckily on this occasion there were no serious injuries.” A later report by the Narrogin Observer said one driver had a broken arm, while also reproducing the police statement that there were no serious injuries. The reports do not explain how the injury was assessed against the description “no serious injuries,” so both details should remain attributed to their respective reports.
