Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For the 2026 model year, the Ford F-150 XL is the truck’s work-focused starting trim, but it is not bare-bones. Ford lists a turbocharged V6, 10-speed automatic transmission, SYNC 4 with a 12-inch touchscreen, a Class IV trailer hitch, cloth seating, manual air conditioning, a rearview camera, and a broad set of driver-assistance and security systems as standard equipment. The exact truck you see can still differ by cab, bed, drivetrain, engine, and factory options, so treat the list below as the standard content of Ford’s current XL specification and verify any individual vehicle with its window sticker.
What comes standard on the 2026 Ford F-150 XL?
Ford’s current 2026 F-150 XL specifications identify the following as baseline equipment. Some details, such as seating layout, tire size, fuel-tank capacity, and drive modes, are configuration-specific rather than universal across every XL.

Powertrain and chassis equipment
Standard engine and transmission
The standard engine is Ford’s 2.7L EcoBoost V6. Ford rates it at 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque for the 2026 XL; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Auto Start-Stop is included, as is an electronic 10-speed automatic transmission. SelectShift and Progressive Range Select give the driver a way to select or hold gears when a load, grade, or trailer makes a fixed gear useful.

| Engine | Availability on XL | Ford-rated output |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L EcoBoost V6 | Standard | 325 hp; 400 lb-ft |
| 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | Available option | 382 hp; 500 lb-ft |
| 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 | Available option | 400 hp; 410 lb-ft |
The 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 are not included automatically. Choosing either changes the truck’s capability figures and may alter the equipment shown on the final build.
Chassis and driving aids
Every XL uses an independent front suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, hill-start assist, trailer-sway control, and selectable drive modes. Ford lists 4×2 as standard and 4×4 as an option. The available drive-mode selection differs between those drivetrains, so the mode names on a 4×2 truck should not be assumed to match those on a 4×4.
Exterior equipment and cargo utility
The XL’s exterior specification is deliberately practical. Standard hardware includes a black coast-to-coast grille, black front and rear bumpers, black mirror caps, LED reflector headlamps, daytime running lamps, and halogen taillamps. The side mirrors are heated, power-adjustable, and manual-folding.
Underneath, Ford lists a fully boxed high-strength steel frame and a rear-underframe spare-tire carrier. The cargo box has four tie-down hooks, and the tailgate is power-locking. A Class IV trailer hitch is standard, which gives the XL a useful factory starting point for towing without requiring a separate hitch installation.
Wheels and tires
Ford lists 17-inch silver steel wheels as the standard wheel design. Tire sizing depends on whether the truck is configured as 4×2 or 4×4. Other wheel and tire combinations, including larger wheels, are optional rather than part of every XL.

Cabin, seating, and everyday comfort
The standard front seat is a 40/20/40 cloth bench. This arrangement preserves a center seating position or folds into a console-like work surface, depending on how it is configured. Black vinyl floor covering is standard and is easier to clean than carpet in a work environment.
Climate control is manual single-zone air conditioning. The driver faces a 4-inch instrument-cluster display, and cruise control is included. Other standard convenience equipment includes power door locks, power windows, a 12-volt power point, and a manual tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

Ford also lists a day/night rearview mirror and sun visors with a passenger-side mirror. Rear seating, rear-window design, and the amount of rear passenger space depend on whether the truck has the Regular Cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew body.
Infotainment and connected services
SYNC 4 and the 12-inch screen
SYNC 4 is standard on the XL, displayed through a 12-inch capacitive touchscreen. AM/FM audio is included. Ford’s current F-150 interior overview also cross-checks the touchscreen and selected cabin technology listed for the trim.
Satellite radio and hotspot service
Ford lists SiriusXM with a three-month prepaid subscription. The XL also includes FordPass Connect with a 5G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Ford describes a Ford Connectivity Package as included for one year with activation. That is a connected-service offer, not a promise that every connected function remains free permanently; activation rules, network availability, and renewal terms can change. Confirm the current terms when taking delivery.

Safety, driver assistance, and security
Collision and parking assistance
Standard driver-assistance equipment includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, a Lane-Keeping System, a Reverse Sensing System, and a rearview camera. These systems support the driver; they do not replace attention, safe following distances, or visual checks around the truck.
Stability, braking, and airbags
AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Curve Control, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes are standard. The airbag package includes driver and passenger front airbags, seat-mounted side airbags, and Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags. Tire-pressure monitoring is also included.
Blind-spot and post-crash protection
Ford lists BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert as standard on the XL. The system is intended to help when changing lanes or reversing from a parking space, but sensors can be affected by trailers, cargo, mud, or weather. Security equipment includes a perimeter anti-theft alarm, the SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, and an SOS Post-Crash Alert System.
Ford cautions that feature availability can vary by model and trim. For a specific truck, use the window sticker to confirm the exact safety equipment rather than relying only on a generic trim summary.
How cab, bed, and drivetrain change the standard-equipment answer
The XL is available as a Regular Cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew. Ford lists these bed combinations:

| Cab | Bed lengths listed by Ford | Important variation |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Cab | 6.5-foot or 8-foot bed | 23-gallon fuel tank listed |
| SuperCab | 6.5-foot bed | 36-gallon tank available |
| SuperCrew | 5.5-foot or 6.5-foot bed | 36-gallon tank available |
Seating configuration, rear-window provisions, rear-seat equipment, tire equipment, fuel-tank size, and drive modes can therefore differ from one XL to another. Four-wheel drive is optional, not a universal XL feature. A truck with the same trim badge can have a substantially different wheelbase, bed, passenger area, and operating range depending on these selections.
Towing and payload: what the XL can be rated to carry
Ford lists a maximum available towing rating of 13,500 pounds when the truck is properly equipped. The engine-specific maximums in Ford’s 2026 XL specifications are shown below.
| Engine | Maximum available towing | Maximum available payload |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L EcoBoost V6 | 8,400 lb | 1,775 lb |
| 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | 13,500 lb | 2,440 lb |
| 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 | 12,800 lb | 2,235 lb |
Ford also lists a maximum available payload of 2,440 pounds. These are maximum available ratings, not guarantees for every XL. Cab style, drivetrain, axle and tire choices, cargo, passengers, hitch equipment, and other options affect the rating of an individual truck. The correct figure is the one assigned to that configuration, and the payload label on the vehicle should govern how much weight is placed in the truck.

How to verify a specific F-150 XL
- Confirm the model year. This article covers the 2026 XL; equipment changes between model years.
- Identify the cab and bed combination: Regular Cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew, along with the listed bed length.
- Check the drivetrain and engine. Do not assume an XL has 4×4 or either optional engine.
- Read the window sticker for wheel and tire equipment, fuel-tank size, tow equipment, and dealer-installed accessories.
- Use the configuration-specific towing and payload ratings, not the highest number shown in general advertising.
- Review connected-service activation terms before counting hotspot or other FordPass features as a continuing no-cost service.
This process matters especially for fleet purchases and used trucks, where a trim badge alone does not reveal every factory option or later accessory.
Who should choose the XL?
The XL suits buyers who value a strong basic powertrain, a large touchscreen, straightforward interior materials, and useful towing hardware without paying for appearance or luxury upgrades. Cloth seating, vinyl flooring, manual climate controls, steel wheels, and black exterior trim prioritize durability and cost control. The standard safety and camera equipment also gives the entry trim modern everyday assistance.
Choose a different XL configuration when the job demands something specific: 4×4 for available traction in appropriate conditions, a longer bed for cargo, a SuperCrew for rear-passenger room, an optional engine for a higher published rating, or factory/dealer-installed bed protection for abrasive loads. Those decisions change the truck more than the XL badge itself.

The 2026 Ford F-150 XL includes the essentials most work-truck buyers expect: a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 and 10-speed automatic, SYNC 4 with a 12-inch screen, practical cloth-and-vinyl cabin materials, a Class IV hitch, useful exterior hardware, and extensive safety equipment. The important qualification is configuration: 4×4, alternate engines, larger fuel tanks, tow upgrades, bed protection, and the truck’s final towing and payload ratings depend on how the XL is built. Check the window sticker before treating any individual truck as fully representative of the trim.
