On Ram trucks, the SRT badge identifies vehicles developed for the highest-performance version of that model. SRT is a performance designation and engineering organization—not an engine size and not another word for Hellcat.
The exact hardware, horsepower, acceleration, body style, and availability depend on the vehicle’s model year and trim. A Challenger SRT Super Stock, a Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, a Durango SRT Hellcat, and a historical Dodge Ram SRT-10 all use the SRT name, but they are very different vehicles.

What does SRT stand for on a Dodge?
Dodge officially expands SRT as Street and Racing Technology. Ram uses the closely equivalent wording Street & Racing Technology, while a Dodge Durango FAQ shortens it to “Street Racing Technology.” The punctuation and use of “and” vary by official page, but the meaning is the same.

SRT began as the name associated with Chrysler’s performance engineering operation and became a badge applied to the most performance-oriented versions of particular Dodge and Ram models. Ram describes SRT-badged vehicles as products developed by the SRT Performance Division and representing the highest-performance variant of a given model.

That distinction matters: SRT describes a performance line, development group, and vehicle designation. It does not identify a particular displacement, cylinder count, fuel system, or supercharger by itself. Two SRT vehicles can use different engines and have completely different missions.
What SRT means on each vehicle
Dodge Challenger SRT
On the Challenger, SRT marks the high-performance end of the lineup. Dodge published SRT versions including the SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Super Stock. The names combine the SRT performance designation with a specific engine or model family.
The Challenger SRT Super Stock illustrates why the model year and exact trim must stay attached to every performance claim. Dodge rated the referenced Super Stock at 0–60 mph in 3.25 seconds and equipped it with an 807-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter high-output HEMI V8. Those are manufacturer figures for that Super Stock specification, not numbers that apply to every Challenger wearing an SRT badge.
A Challenger marked SRT may therefore tell you that it is a factory performance model, but the badge alone does not tell you whether it is a Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye, Super Stock, or another year-specific version. The window sticker, build sheet, or official specifications for that vehicle are needed to identify the exact engine and equipment.

Dodge Charger SRT
On the Charger, SRT generally refers to the high-performance Hellcat variants documented by Dodge. Charger SRT equipment can include performance-focused chassis tuning and Brembo brakes, rather than merely an appearance package.
Dodge also documented a Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye with 797 horsepower. That figure belongs to the cited Redeye configuration and model-year material. It should not be used as a blanket specification for every Charger SRT, because output, trims, and availability changed over time.
The Charger’s four-door layout makes the SRT idea different from the Challenger’s coupe format: the designation still signals extreme performance, but the body style, seating, suspension calibration, brake package, tires, and available options must be checked separately. SRT is the starting point for identifying the performance model, not a complete equipment list.

Dodge Durango SRT
The Durango SRT family includes the SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat. Dodge’s Durango materials describe SRT as its performance-driven division and separately define R/T as “Road/Track.” The SRT badge appears inside and outside the vehicle, making it both a model designation and a visible emblem.

Dodge listed 710 horsepower for the referenced Durango SRT Hellcat, produced by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8. That is a model-specific manufacturer claim. A Durango SRT 392 and a Durango SRT Hellcat are not interchangeable: the engine, output, acceleration capability, cooling requirements, brakes, tires, and pricing can differ substantially by year and configuration.
Because the Durango remains an SUV, comparing it with a Challenger or Charger requires more than horsepower. Seating capacity, cargo space, all-weather usability, towing equipment, curb weight, and transmission or drivetrain specifications can change the practical meaning of the SRT badge.
Ram truck SRT
Ram uses SRT for both historic and newer performance-truck products. Its current FAQ identifies the Ram 1500 TRX SRT and Ram 1500 Rumble Bee SRT as SRT trucks. The designation means the truck was developed as the highest-performance variant of its model, not that all SRT trucks share one engine or one body configuration.

The best-known historical example is the Dodge Ram SRT-10. It was a Viper-powered performance pickup created by Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO). Chrysler engineering material stated a 150-mph maximum speed, while a Stellantis media release reported mid-five-second 0–60-mph performance for the 2006 model. Those figures describe the SRT-10 and should not be transferred to later Ram SRT products.

Ram’s SRT history traces the group’s roots through Team Viper and Team Prowler, then Specialty Vehicle Engineering and Performance Vehicle Operations. Ram says the SRT team was reinstated in 2025. That organizational history explains why the badge has appeared on sports cars, SUVs, and trucks rather than being tied to one engine family.
Is SRT the same as Hellcat?
No. SRT is the performance designation and the name associated with the performance engineering division. Hellcat is an engine and model-family name used in some SRT vehicles. A vehicle can legitimately be called an SRT Hellcat: SRT identifies the performance line, while Hellcat identifies the particular powertrain or model family.
For example, “Challenger SRT Hellcat” communicates more information than either word alone. “SRT” says the car is a factory high-performance variant; “Hellcat” identifies the supercharged V8 family associated with that version. A Challenger SRT Super Stock is also an SRT vehicle, but its name and calibration are distinct from a standard SRT Hellcat.
Is SRT better than R/T?
“Better” depends on the intended use, but SRT and R/T are not two names for the same trim. Dodge’s Durango FAQ expands R/T as Road/Track, a separate designation. SRT normally sits above or apart from R/T as the more intensely performance-focused specification, but exact equipment and pricing depend on the model year.

An R/T can be the sensible choice when a buyer wants a sportier appearance or driving character without the cost, tire consumption, fuel use, or extreme power of an SRT. An SRT is the relevant choice when the priority is the highest-performance variant documented for that model and year. The only reliable way to compare two used vehicles is to match their model year, engine, drivetrain, brake package, tires, transmission, and options.
Performance figures that must stay tied to the exact model
Manufacturer figures are useful for identifying the scale of an SRT vehicle, but they are not universal SRT specifications. The following claims belong to the cited configurations:

Acceleration depends on tires, surface, temperature, fuel, driver technique, testing method, and equipment. Treat a manufacturer’s number as a specification claim for that configuration, not as a promise that every example will reproduce it.

- Record the model and model year. “Charger SRT” or “Ram SRT” is incomplete without the year because trims and engines changed.
- Read the complete name. Look for a second designation such as Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye, Super Stock, 392, TRX, Rumble Bee, or SRT-10.
- Verify the engine and forced-induction type. SRT is not an engine-size label. Confirm whether the vehicle uses a naturally aspirated V8, a supercharged V8, a Viper V10, or another year-specific engine.
- Check the factory equipment. Brakes, tires, suspension, cooling, drivetrain, seats, and exterior badges can distinguish an SRT variant from a look-alike or an aftermarket conversion.
- Separate historical from current naming. A Dodge Ram SRT-10 is a discontinued historical model; a newer Ram page may use “Ram SRT” for a different product.
- Use the vehicle’s original documentation. A window sticker, build sheet, owner’s manual, or manufacturer specification page is more reliable than a loose badge or an online listing that omits the trim.
What the SRT badge means for ownership
An SRT badge signals that the vehicle was engineered around performance, so the ownership implications extend beyond the engine. A buyer should verify the brake and tire specification, cooling system, suspension parts, wheel fitment, drivetrain service requirements, and any towing or payload limits that apply to the exact vehicle.
On a Durango or Ram, utility remains part of the decision. Seating, cargo capacity, towing equipment, and truck-bed configuration can matter as much as acceleration. On a Challenger or Charger, tire condition, brake wear, and evidence of repeated high-load use may be especially important when inspecting a used example.
Badges alone are not proof of factory status. An SRT emblem can be replaced, added, or removed, and an SRT vehicle may have been modified. Confirm the VIN-linked build information and mechanical equipment before paying a premium for an SRT-labeled vehicle.
