Videos from the Syrian Presidential Palace compound in Damascus showed dozens of luxury vehicles after Bashar al-Assad fled the capital on December 8, 2024. Reports identified cars including a Ferrari F50, Lamborghini Murciélago and Diablo, and several Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin models. The footage and reporting connect the garage to the Assad family; they do not establish that every car belonged personally to Bashar al-Assad.
What cars were reported in the garage?
News outlets identified a wide mix of high-end sports cars, luxury sedans and utility vehicles. Their lists differ, and there is no published, independently audited inventory, so these are reported identifications rather than a definitive count or complete catalogue.

How firmly are the cars linked to Assad?
The garage was within the Presidential Palace compound, and coverage described the vehicles as part of the Assad family’s collection. ABC News said it verified its video of the garage. The Washington Post verified the location of other garage footage, while noting that its timing was unclear; Anadolu Agency documented vehicles there in January 2025. These reports support the location and family association, not proof of individual ownership.
Sky News cautioned that some vehicles in a fleet of this size may have been used by staff. Retired Damascus businessman Ammar Mahayni told The Washington Post, “It was a surprise for us to see the garage full of cars because he never drove in fancy cars, or even his son.” That reaction describes the surprise at the footage; it is not an ownership record.

Was there really a Ferrari F50, and what was it worth?
Several outlets reported an F50 in the garage. ABC News described the vehicle in its verified video as appearing to be an F50, while Anadolu Agency also identified one. Ferrari made 349 F50s, according to ABC News and the cataloguing for a separate example at RM Sotheby’s.
Anadolu Agency put the garage F50’s approximate value at $3 million. That is an attributed estimate, not a sale price or a documented appraisal of the particular car. For comparison only, a separately catalogued 1995 Ferrari F50, serial 047/349, sold for $5,505,000 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction in 2024. The auction result does not establish the Damascus car’s identity, condition, provenance or value.

- The Matchbox Spin Cyclone Car Wash Playset whips up the adventures with kid-powered storytelling and unexpected surprises.
- There's no water necessary in this wash where cars race into the cyclone tunnel that spins when kids pull the handle.
- The see-through tunnel will randomly stop on 1 of 3 different outcomes that indicate if the vehicle is dirty, soapy or clean. When it's clean, it automatically launches the car down the ramp.
- Once a clean vehicle heads down the ramp, the next one enters the wash for continuous action.
- The set includes a 1:64 die-cast Corvette and tow truck for realistic storytelling inspiration.
Why did the footage draw attention?
The palace garage offered a striking image of luxury amid widespread hardship, but the cars alone cannot explain Syria’s economic conditions. The World Bank’s May 2024 release reported that about 14.5 million people—roughly 69% of Syria’s population—lived in poverty in 2022; more than one in four faced extreme poverty that year. These are estimates for 2022, not measurements for 2024 or 2026.
Political economist Karam Shaar, a nonresident senior fellow at the New Lines Institute, told The Washington Post: “One can argue that the only constant in Bashar al-Assad’s rule has been corruption.” This is Shaar’s characterization of the regime, not evidence about who owned any particular vehicle.
