Those two figures are the ends of a wide range, not a price for your car. Where your car lands depends on its exact trim, mileage, condition, options, location, and whether you are selling privately, trading in, or buying from a dealer. KBB labels its figures valid through October 7, 2026, one day before this article was written, so treat them as the most recent published values and confirm the current number before you negotiate.
Which car counts as a “10-year-old” Challenger
In 2026, a Challenger that is ten years old is a 2016 model-year car. Valuation tools sort by model year, so search for 2016 and then narrow by trim. Keep the model year, trim, and engine in front of you before you check any number, because those three details drive most of the price spread.
Start with the trim-level range
Kelley Blue Book publishes a national-average Fair Purchase Price for each trim. For a 2016 Challenger, its figures run from $13,600 for an SXT Coupe 2D to $36,200 for an SRT Hellcat Coupe 2D, a difference of $22,600 between the two endpoints. KBB states that individual values vary with mileage, condition, location, and other factors, so a national average is a starting point rather than a quote for a specific car.
The two endpoints show how much trim matters. The figures cited here cover only those two trims. If you own a different 2016 trim, look up its own KBB value rather than estimating it from either end of the range.

Why two 2016 Challengers can be worth very different amounts
A single model year can produce a wide spread of values. These are the variables that move a specific car’s number most:
- Trim and engine. The SXT and the SRT Hellcat sit at opposite ends of the published range, and that gap alone accounts for most of the difference between cars.
- Mileage. Lower-mileage cars generally command higher values. Edmunds’ example for a trade-in value assumes roughly 12,000 miles per year of use, so a higher-mileage car would be valued lower.
- Condition and history. A clean car is valued differently from one with cosmetic or mechanical issues. Edmunds’ example uses a clean-condition vehicle.
- Options. Added equipment changes value. Edmunds’ example uses a no-options car, so optioned vehicles will not match it.
- Location. Local supply and demand shift asking prices. A listing in one metro area can sit well above or below the same car somewhere else.
- Sale channel. Trade-in, private-party sale, and dealer retail are separate values, covered in the next section.
Trade-in, private-party, and dealer retail are different numbers
Edmunds presents separate transaction values, and its own example shows how far they can differ. For a 2016 Challenger with no options, roughly 12,000 miles per year of use, and clean condition, Edmunds estimated about $6,528 as a trade-in value and about $8,404 as a private-party value, a gap of $1,876 for the same car. The trade-in figure is what a dealer may pay you when you buy another vehicle; the private-party figure assumes you sell directly to a buyer.

Edmunds also publishes a much broader estimated used-value range for 2016 Challengers: $4,830 to $32,862, accessed October 8, 2026. That range spans many configurations, conditions, and mileages, so its low end does not describe a typical car and its high end does not describe a typical Hellcat. The example and the range come from the same source but answer different questions.
Do not substitute Edmunds’ figures for KBB’s Fair Purchase Price. The two sources use different methods and assumptions, so a number from one is not a conversion of the other.

These figures come from different sources and measure different things. Do not average them into a single number.
Using marketplace listings as a cross-check
Asking prices show what sellers want, not what cars sell for. CarGurus’ listing analysis reflects 1,274 listings with an average asking price of $24,697 as of October 5, 2026. Those cars vary in trim, mileage, location, and condition, so the average is only useful if you narrow it to comparable cars.

To build a useful comparison:
- Confirm your exact trim and engine from your title, registration, or a VIN decode.
- Write down your mileage and an honest condition assessment, including any known mechanical or cosmetic issues.
- Run a valuation tool for each transaction type you might use, entering the same details each time.
- Search local listings for 2016 cars with the same trim, similar mileage, and similar options. Record each asking price and the date you saw it.
- Compare your car to the closest matches, not to the overall average. Treat asking prices as the upper end of what a buyer may pay, since final prices are usually negotiated.
