Waymo and Navya both develop autonomous vehicles, but they are not currently offering equivalent robo-taxi services. Waymo operates public, app-based autonomous ride-hailing in the service areas it supports. Navya’s current lineup instead centers on managed passenger shuttles for cities and private sites, plus autonomous vehicles and services for industrial operations. The useful comparison is therefore between two deployment models—not a head-to-head contest between matching taxi networks.
Are Waymo and Navya competing in the same robo-taxi market?
Not on the evidence in their current official product descriptions. Waymo’s Waymo One is a public ride-hailing service: riders request trips through the Waymo app in eligible areas. Navya presents the Autonom Shuttle Evo 3 as a turnkey passenger-transport solution for cities and private sites, supported by deployment and fleet-management services. Its current site also features the AT135 autonomous tractor for logistics. Navya’s reviewed materials do not establish an equivalent public, on-demand taxi service.
That distinction changes what “compete” means. Waymo’s primary customer is an individual rider seeking a trip; Navya’s shuttle is aimed at organizations that plan or manage transport on a defined site or route. They overlap in autonomous passenger mobility, but the products, buyers, and operating contexts differ.

What does each model suit?
Waymo: individual trips in a supported service area
Waymo says riders can use its app to hail a ride 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the service areas it supports. The service geography can change, so consult Waymo One’s current service-area information rather than assuming availability from a past launch announcement. Waymo traces the program to Google’s Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, its independence within Alphabet in 2016, Waymo One’s Metro Phoenix launch in 2018, and the opening of fully autonomous rider-only Phoenix service to the public in 2020. Those are milestones in Waymo’s own history timeline. Waymo Driver

Navya: planned passenger movement or industrial operations
The Evo 3’s advertised capacity and wheelchair access make it a different proposition from an individual taxi ride: it is a shuttle intended to move groups along a planned route or within a managed site. Navya describes site assessment, risk analysis, and route validation as deployment steps, with remote supervision and fleet tools supporting operations. Its claims about redundant systems and certifications describe the manufacturer’s processes; they are not comparative crash-rate evidence. Autonom Shuttle Evo 3 Navya Operate
Navya says it has worked in autonomous mobility since 2014 and describes deployments for moving passengers and goods in designated areas under remote supervision. Its About page identifies Macnica and NTT WEST as major shareholders and invites cities, companies, and industrial customers to explore deployments. Navya About

What do the companies’ scale figures show?
The figures available describe different things and should not be read as comparable fleet counts or market shares.
- Waymo: its safety dashboard reports 271.3 million rider-only miles through June 2026 across five metro areas: Los Angeles (67.098 million), San Francisco Bay Area (82.421 million), Phoenix (92.121 million), Austin (21.064 million), and Atlanta (8.624 million). These are Waymo-published operating totals. Waymo safety dashboard
- Navya: its homepage presents 450 deployments in 30 countries as company key figures, but does not state a measurement period. Treat them as Navya’s undated company figures, not an audited or precisely current fleet count. Navya homepage
What do the safety figures establish—and what do they not?
Waymo’s dashboard compares rider-only crash rates with human-driver benchmarks for the same distances in its operating metros. Through June 2026, Waymo reports 82% fewer injury-causing crashes and 95% fewer serious-injury-or-worse crashes than its stated benchmark. The dashboard says the crash comparisons do not depend on fault and describes the figures as retrospective validation; Waymo says readiness is evaluated separately through its safety case. The results are company analyses, not an independent Waymo-versus-Navya study. Waymo safety dashboard

In a September 24, 2026 update, the Waymo Team said its analysis covered “over 270 million miles of fully autonomous operations through the end of June 2026.” The same update estimates at least 841 injury-causing crashes avoided, assuming at least one injured person per estimated injury-causing crash. Waymo safety data update, September 24, 2026
Navya’s product page calls the Evo 3 “Our first L4 driving vehicle for passenger transport.” The company qualifies operator-free Level 4 operation to closed sites and describes validation and safety processes for deployments. Those product claims do not establish a crash-rate advantage over Waymo, human drivers, or another shuttle maker. Autonom Shuttle Evo 3 The reviewed sources provide no independent, like-for-like crash-rate study comparing the two companies.

Which one should a rider or transport operator consider?
- For a personal trip: Waymo is the relevant service in this comparison, if the trip begins within an active Waymo One service area and the app offers the ride.
- For a city, campus, airport, private site, or industrial operator: Navya’s shuttle and managed-deployment model is the closer fit to evaluate, particularly when group capacity, wheelchair access, a defined route, and fleet supervision matter.
- For a safety comparison: do not treat Waymo’s published human-benchmark analysis and Navya’s product-level safety descriptions as a head-to-head result. They measure or describe different things.
