Ford’s onboard video shows a Mustang GTD lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:57.685, driven by Dirk Müller on 7 August 2024. The footage is a closed-course run with a professional driver, filmed in a preproduction GTD, and it is not a driving lesson. A later GTD lap of 6:52.072, dated 9 April 2025, appears in the Nürburgring’s official record listing, so the 2024 video should not be described as the car’s fastest listed time.
What the hot-seat video shows
“Hot seat” refers to the onboard, cockpit-level camera view: you watch the lap from the driver’s position rather than from the trackside or a drone. Ford’s video is that kind of recording of the 2024 run. It is useful for seeing the car’s line, braking points and how the Nordschleife’s elevation changes look from inside the cabin. It does not give you a public driving experience, and nothing in the video is meant to be copied on a road or a track day.
Two GTD times on the official Nürburgring listing
The Nürburgring’s official record listing includes two Mustang GTD laps. They are easy to conflate, so keep them separate when you quote or compare them.
| Item | 2024 hot-seat lap | 2025 GTD entry |
|---|---|---|
| Lap time | 6:57.685 | 6:52.072 |
| Driver | Dirk Müller | Dirk Müller |
| Date | 7 August 2024 | 9 April 2025 |
| Car | Mustang GTD (preproduction, per Ford’s video disclaimer) | Mustang GTD (listed as a GTD entry; the listing is the source for this detail) |
| Is it the video you are watching? | Yes | No |
The 2025 entry is the faster of the two and is the one to cite if you need the GTD’s quickest time on the official list. Record listings change, so check the live Nürburgring list before publishing a time as current.

What Ford’s disclaimer means for viewers
Ford’s video carries a disclaimer that states three things: the lap took place on a closed course, a professional driver was at the wheel, and the car is a preproduction GTD. The same disclaimer warns viewers not to attempt the driving. Ford also notes that production vehicles may differ from the preproduction car shown, so the 6:57.685 time describes that specific car and run, not every GTD that leaves the factory.
Reading the lap distance and turn count
Ford’s announcement describes the Nordschleife course used for the lap as 12.9 miles long with 73 turns. These figures come from Ford, not from the Nürburgring’s record listing, so attribute them to Ford if you repeat them. They help explain why a sub-seven-minute lap is a meaningful benchmark: the course is long, technical and not a flat, uniform circuit.

Ford’s original announcement and the Farley quote
Ford’s 2024 announcement quoted Ford president and CEO Jim Farley on the sub-seven-minute lap:
“We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know the Mustang GTD can set a faster Nürburgring lap. We’ll be back.”

- Latest Release: Brand new for the 2025 release year with updated styling and features
- Collectible Diecast Vehicle: High-quality diecast construction suitable for display, play, and collecting enthusiasts of all ages
Treat the quote as a statement made at the time of the 2024 announcement. It was Ford’s expectation then, and the 2025 listing shows that the team did return to the course with a faster GTD lap. It is not a current claim about the car’s standing on the record list.
Availability: why the story is about the car, not a purchase
Ford’s official GTD page describes the model as a very limited-availability vehicle. That makes the lap story a point about performance and engineering rather than a route to buying the car. If you want to know whether a GTD is available in your market, check Ford’s regional site directly, since availability varies by country and can change.

Comparing the GTD with other cars
If you compare the GTD with other cars on the Nordschleife, first confirm which category the Nürburgring uses for the comparison, such as production or all-car, and check the current table for that category. The rankings change as new runs are posted. The 6:57.685 video does not establish the GTD’s position in any current category, so avoid calling it a class record without checking the live list.
- Use the 2025 time (6:52.072) when quoting the GTD’s fastest listed run.
- Use the 2024 time (6:57.685) only when referring to the hot-seat video.
- Attribute the 12.9-mile and 73-turn figures to Ford.
- Present the Farley quote as a 2024 statement.

Watch the hot-seat video as Ford’s closed-course, professional-driver run of the 6:57.685 lap from August 2024. For the GTD’s quickest listed Nürburgring time, cite the 6:52.072 lap from April 2025, and verify both against the live official list before publishing.
