The FIA said she was conscious after medical evaluation and had been taken to hospital. A later hospital update reported a cervical vertebra fracture with spinal cord compression and surgery.
What happened at the 2018 Macau Grand Prix?
Flörsch was competing in the FIA F3 World Cup on 18 November 2018 when she was involved in a serious incident on lap four. The FIA’s initial statement reported that she was conscious after medical evaluation and had been transferred to hospital. It did not give her later clinical diagnosis. Read the FIA statement.
The FIA update also said four other people were taken to hospital in conscious condition: driver Sho Tsuboi, two members of the media and a marshal. The event was serious, but the official account cited here does not establish the crash’s cause or an exact speed.
What injury did the hospital report?
In a report published on 20 November 2018, Macau’s Health Bureau summarized a hospital press conference held the previous evening. It said Flörsch had a cervical vertebra fracture with spinal cord compression and underwent surgery. This diagnosis came in the hospital update, after the FIA’s initial report of her condition and transfer. Read the Macau Health Bureau report.

How did Flörsch recover and return to racing?
Formula 1 reported on 26 February 2020 that Flörsch made a full recovery after surgery and competed again at the Macau Grand Prix in 2019. It also reported that she received the Laureus World Sports Award for World Comeback of the Year and entered the 2020 FIA F3 season with Campos Racing. Read Formula 1’s 2020 report.
