The price of Volkswagen’s electric ID. Polo depends on where and when you buy it, and which trim is on offer. In Germany, pre-sales opened with a €33,795 Life model; Volkswagen said a €24,995 base version would follow. Spain’s later-advertised €17,900 price is a conditional offer, not a like-for-like European list price. The car’s case for its price rests on its range, equipment and unusually generous boot for a small hatchback—while the first-drive praise belongs to one reviewer and one high-spec version.
What does the electric Polo cost?
There is no single price that applies across markets and trims. Volkswagen’s German launch release, dated 29 April 2026, said pre-sales began with the ID. Polo Life: 155 kW (211 PS), a 52 kWh battery and a starting price of €33,795. The company said the €24,995 base version and other drive and equipment variants would follow later in the summer. That lower figure was therefore not the trim initially offered in the German launch announcement.
Volkswagen España later described a €17,900 offer for a 37 kWh, 116 CV Match. The stated price includes brand campaigns and is linked to VWFS financing, Spain’s Auto+ programme and CAES. It is a market-specific, conditional offer, not a general European price. These German and Spanish figures differ in country, trim, battery, timing and offer conditions, so they should not be treated as a direct comparison.
No comparable rival-price data is established here, so the available figures do not by themselves show whether the ID. Polo is cheap or expensive relative to competing electric cars. For a real quote, check the price and equipment for your country, chosen trim, financing and any incentives.

What do you get for the price?
Volkswagen lists three power outputs across two battery sizes. The smaller pack is 37 kWh net and uses LFP chemistry; the larger one is 52 kWh net and uses NMC chemistry. The front-wheel-drive car is a five-seater.
| Battery and chemistry | Power | Volkswagen’s stated WLTP range | 10–80% DC charging |
|---|---|---|---|
| 37 kWh net, LFP | 85 kW (116 PS) or 99 kW (135 PS) | Up to 329 km; Volkswagen UK gives the equivalent as 203 miles | About 23 minutes, according to Volkswagen UK |
| 52 kWh net, NMC | 155 kW (211 PS) | Up to 454 km; Volkswagen UK gives the equivalent as 281 miles | About 24 minutes, according to Volkswagen UK |
The ranges are manufacturer WLTP figures, not promises of the distance a driver will achieve on the road. Real-world range varies with conditions and use; no independently measured range or efficiency result is established here. Volkswagen’s charging times are also manufacturer figures, rather than independent charging-test results.

Equipment changes by trim
Volkswagen’s German launch information describes a tiered equipment range, though exact specifications should be checked against the local market and configuration:
- Trend: includes driver-assistance systems and DC charging.
- Life: adds features including adaptive cruise control and a rear camera.
- Style: adds matrix LED headlights, heated seats and a heated steering wheel, among other features.
The cabin combines a 10-inch Digital Cockpit with a 13-inch infotainment display and physical controls. Volkswagen also lists optional Connected Travel Assist with automatic traffic-light recognition, as well as one-pedal driving. Those features and their availability depend on specification; they should not be assumed to be standard on every version.

Does it feel worth the money to drive?
T3’s first-drive writer drove a Style Launch Edition with the 211 hp motor and 52 kWh battery around Vienna, and described that tested car as sturdy and well finished. That is a specific journalist’s impression of a high-spec launch version—not a measured verdict on ride, handling or efficiency, and not proof that every trim feels the same.
That qualification matters when weighing the launch price. The €33,795 German pre-sale car was the powerful 52 kWh Life, while T3’s reported drive was in a 52 kWh Style Launch Edition. Neither should be confused with the later-announced lower-priced base version or Spain’s conditional Match offer.

How practical is the ID. Polo?
Volkswagen gives the car dimensions of 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide and 1,530 mm high, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. The company lists 441 litres of boot capacity with the rear seats up and 1,240 litres with their backrests folded. It says the standard boot is 25% larger than the combustion-engine Polo’s 351-litre boot. Those are manufacturer figures; the quoted volume alone does not establish how easily a particular load will fit.
Volkswagen also says the ID. Polo can supply external devices at up to 3.6 kW through vehicle-to-load (V2L). The company specifies a separate adapter connected through the charging socket; the output is not a claim that the car comes with an adapter in every market or trim.

What the price-and-drive story really tells you
The ID. Polo’s launch pricing is best understood as a set of distinct offers, not one universal figure. Its practical case includes a claimed WLTP range of up to 454 km in the larger-battery version, short manufacturer-stated 10–80% DC charging times and a 441-litre boot. Whether that makes the car worth its price depends on the local price and equipment you can actually buy, and on how much you value those features. T3’s favorable first impression offers a glimpse of one version, not a substitute for a test drive in the trim you are considering.
