Volvo announced on June 25, 2025, that the XC60 had overtaken the Volvo 240 to become the best-selling model in Volvo Cars’ history. The company said it had sold more than 2.7 million XC60s since the SUV debuted in 2008. That is a cumulative, all-time model record—not a claim that the XC60 set a new annual sales record in 2025.
What is the Volvo XC60 sales record?
The record is for total sales over the XC60’s lifetime. Volvo Cars announced the milestone on June 25, 2025, reporting that sales had passed 2.7 million since the model’s 2008 debut. The XC60 surpassed the Volvo 240, which had previously been the company’s best-selling model of all time. Volvo’s announcement does not give an exact total beyond “more than 2.7 million.”
Is the XC60 Volvo’s best-selling car?
Yes. Volvo’s June 2025 announcement names the XC60 its all-time best-selling model, ahead of the 240. “Best-selling” here refers to cumulative model sales across the vehicles’ lifetimes; it does not mean the XC60 sold more than every other Volvo in every individual year.
How many XC60s did Volvo sell per year?
Annual totals put the lifetime record in context. Volvo reported 230,853 XC60 sales in 2024 and 230,655 in 2025. The 2025 figure was 198 lower, although the XC60 remained Volvo Cars’ top-selling model that year. Volvo’s 2025 sales report provides those annual figures.

Volvo Cars’ annual reports contain the rounded model totals and company-wide figure.
What has changed on the XC60 since the record announcement?
2026 model-year refresh
When Volvo announced the lifetime sales milestone in June 2025, it also described a significant refresh for model year 2026, covering design, user experience, comfort and infotainment. Those updates provide current-model context, but they do not change what the sales record measures.

Longer-range plug-in hybrid variants
On September 15, 2026, Volvo announced long-range plug-in hybrid variants for Europe and the United States. The US release states up to 78 miles of electric range, while the global release states up to 200 kilometres. These are manufacturer-stated, market-specific figures; they should not be treated as directly interchangeable or as a universal real-world range. Volvo’s releases do not provide independent range testing or a full comparison with rival vehicles. US announcement · Global announcement

Volvo’s 2026 owner’s manual says to use only one mat per seat and ensure each mat is fastened with all pins. A loose driver’s mat can move and become caught near or under the pedals. Because mat fit can vary by model year, trim and vehicle configuration, verify compatibility and secure installation. Volvo also cautions that unapproved or incorrectly installed accessories can affect vehicle systems. Volvo XC60 owner’s manual
