Volkswagen Canada lists a 1.5 L engine with 174 hp for the 2026 Taos. The same comparison lists a 2.0 L engine with 201 hp for the 2026 Tiguan. It also lists a Tiguan Turbo trim at 268 hp. Those are manufacturer-listed output figures, not measured acceleration times, passing tests, or ride evaluations.
The straightforward conclusion is that the Tiguan gives you more stated power in both its regular Canadian listing and its Turbo version. That can matter when the vehicle is heavily loaded, when you routinely merge onto fast traffic, or when you prefer a larger performance margin. It does not prove that every Tiguan will feel quicker in every situation: transmission calibration, vehicle weight, drivetrain, tire choice, altitude, temperature, and the selected trim all affect the result.

Why the Taos number is not interchangeable

Estimate your own fuel-cost difference
For a Canadian comparison, use the listed L/100 km values only after confirming that the two vehicles have the same drivetrain basis and official test conditions. Multiply your annual distance in kilometres by the vehicle’s L/100 km figure, divide by 100, and multiply by your local fuel price per litre. That does not mean every Tiguan has all-wheel drive, and it does not establish the Taos drivetrain lineup for every market or year. Confirm the exact build sheet.
