The remedy is a free software update at a Volkswagen dealer, but only a 17-character VIN lookup or dealer can confirm whether a specific Tiguan is affected and whether its repair is complete.
What the Tiguan recall covers
The recall is listed as NHTSA campaign 26V587000 and Volkswagen campaign 57KL. It applies to certain 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles, not every Tiguan from that model year. The recall date shown in the listing is September 9, 2026; affected VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on September 17, 2026. See the Tiguan recall listing.
Coverage reports describe the scope as nearly 50,000 vehicles. The exact potentially affected total is not independently confirmed by the cited recall listing, so a more precise count should not be treated as established. The number of vehicles potentially covered also does not tell an owner whether their individual Tiguan is included.
What can happen and why it matters
A software fault may cause the body control module (BCM) system to reset. The reset can switch off the ignition and cause the engine to stall. The recall listing also identifies possible loss of certain controls, warning lights, exterior lighting or rearview-camera function. An unexpected stall or loss of these functions may increase crash risk.

How to check whether your Tiguan is affected
Use the VIN-specific check rather than relying on the model year alone. NHTSA says its lookup shows whether a vehicle has an unrepaired recall. A general recall summary cannot confirm a vehicle’s eligibility or repair status.

- Find the vehicle’s 17-character VIN.
- Enter it in NHTSA’s recall lookup to check for an unrepaired recall.
- Contact a Volkswagen dealer if the result is unclear or you need confirmation of whether the recall repair has been completed.
NHTSA advises owners to follow any interim safety guidance from the manufacturer and contact a local dealership for a free recall repair. Do not infer a vehicle-specific instruction from the general campaign summary.

The recall notice says dealers will update the BCM software free of charge. This is a dealer software service, not a repair requiring an owner-purchased part or tool. The recall listing and coverage report give November 6, 2026, as the expected owner-letter date; that schedule does not guarantee that a particular owner has received a letter.
