Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles paused production of the electric ID. Buzz and combustion-powered Multivan at its Hannover-Stöcken plant for five days, beginning 20 October 2025. The company said the temporary scheduling change responded to changed market demand; it was not an announcement that either model or the factory had been permanently discontinued.
What happened at Volkswagen’s Hannover plant?
Production at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Hannover-Stöcken site was interrupted from 20 to 24 October 2025. The plant builds the ID. Buzz and Multivan, and the reported five-day halt applied to both model lines. NDR’s report and electrive’s coverage both described the pause and Volkswagen’s explanation.
Volkswagen’s stated reason was changed market demand. Contemporary coverage placed the decision amid a weakening European light commercial vehicle market and electric-vehicle demand growing more slowly than Volkswagen had expected. Those broader conditions explain the context, but the available reporting does not give a model-by-model sales shortfall or identify an individual sales figure that triggered the schedule change.
Why did VW pause ID. Buzz and Multivan production?
A Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles spokesperson described the move as providing “the necessary flexibility to adapt production planning to changed market demand,” as quoted in electrive’s reporting. In practical terms, the company adjusted its production schedule in response to demand conditions rather than announcing a permanent end to either vehicle.

The pause followed other scheduling adjustments at the site. electrive reported that the plant had an extended summer holiday and that employees’ scheduled working week returned to 35 hours from 37.5 hours. Those figures describe working time, not vehicle output, and do not by themselves indicate that the factory was closing.
Did Volkswagen discontinue the ID. Buzz or Multivan?
No such conclusion follows from the October 2025 pause. It was a five-day interruption, not evidence of a permanent cancellation. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ 2026 company information continued to list Hannover as a production location for both the ID. Buzz and Multivan.

That later company information supports treating the 2025 stoppage as temporary, but it does not establish the precise date production restarted or quantify output after the interruption. The available reports also do not establish how either model’s sales compared with Volkswagen’s internal targets.

The event is evidence that Volkswagen adjusted factory scheduling as market demand changed. It is not, on its own, evidence that deliveries were cancelled, that the Hannover plant shut permanently, or that either model was withdrawn. The reported duration and dates describe the scheduled interruption in October 2025; they should not be mistaken for a statement about production status in October 2026.
