The steering-wheel View button can switch the Digital Cockpit to Volkswagen’s Retro display.
The vehicle is planned for market launch in early 2027. Volkswagen Spain’s announcement describes the Spanish-market rollout, while Volkswagen UK’s interior information supplies the published screen sizes and some UK equipment details. Trim content, symbols and final button behaviour can vary by market and may change before deliveries begin.

Climate controls: a physical button bar in the centre console
Basic climate functions are assigned to a physical button bar in the centre console. Volkswagen describes this as a return to tactile controls, so the driver can locate the primary climate interface by feel without opening a touchscreen menu.

Volkswagen’s launch announcement does not identify every button individually. Do not rely on a generic image of another Volkswagen model to interpret the ID. Tiguan’s symbols; the final layout may differ by market or trim.
At delivery, use the vehicle’s current digital owner information to match each icon with its function. Volkswagen UK says it does not provide physical manuals for many recent models, including all ID-family vehicles, so a printed handbook should not be assumed.
Window controls: all four electric windows from the driver’s door
The redesigned driver’s door panel operates all four electric windows. This is a significant change from layouts that require a touch interface or a separate selector to reach rear-window controls: the driver’s door is the physical control point for the complete set of power windows.
How to understand the panel
- Expect a dedicated control arrangement on the driver’s door rather than a screen-only window menu.
- The panel is specified to control the front and rear electric windows, giving the driver access to all four positions.
- The announcement does not publish the exact labels, switch sequence or any child-lock procedure.
Because Volkswagen has not released a symbol chart, wait for the delivered car’s market-specific instructions before assuming how a particular switch behaves. Window operation can also be affected by ignition state and safety logic, but those details are not stated in the launch material and should not be inferred.

Audio control: one rotary knob, with steering-wheel duplicates
A central rotary control handles the two audio adjustments Volkswagen calls out explicitly: changing volume and changing stations or tracks. Turning the control is therefore the primary physical way to make the sound louder or quieter and to move through audio content.
Volume
The rotary control is the tactile volume interface. Volkswagen UK describes the audio control as a rotary knob, while the Spain announcement identifies it as a central rotary control. The published information does not state whether pressing the knob performs an additional action, so treat its confirmed role as rotation for volume unless the delivered vehicle’s instructions say otherwise.
Stations and tracks
The same control can be used to change radio stations or move between tracks. The release groups these actions together but does not specify whether they are selected by pressing, rotating through a mode, or using another adjacent input. The exact interaction should be checked in the final owner information.
Steering-wheel access
Volkswagen also says volume and station or track changes are available from the steering wheel. This gives the driver a second physical location for common audio actions without reaching toward the centre console. The announcement does not publish the full steering-wheel button map, so it is not possible to assign every button or direction from the available information alone.
Steering-wheel buttons and the Retro display
The multifunction steering wheel uses physical buttons rather than relying entirely on a touch surface. One function is documented specifically: pressing the View button activates the Retro display in the Digital Cockpit.

What the View button changes
The Retro display is an instrument-cluster view, not a change to the central infotainment screen. The View button lets the driver select that cockpit presentation from the steering wheel. Volkswagen has not published a complete list of the other available display views or the exact sequence used to cycle between them.
Other wheel buttons
The wheel also provides audio controls, including the volume and station or track functions described above. A full symbol-by-symbol map, voice-control behaviour and long-press actions have not been released. Avoid treating illustrations or controls from a different Volkswagen model as definitive evidence for the ID. Tiguan.
Heated-wheel availability in the UK
Volkswagen UK lists a heated multifunction steering wheel from the Life equipment line onwards. That is a UK-market equipment statement, not a global trim rule. It should not be applied automatically to Spanish or other-market cars.
Screens are separate from the physical buttons
Volkswagen UK identifies three display sizes for the interior: a 10.2-inch driver’s display, a 15-inch central infotainment screen and an optional 12-inch passenger display. These are screens, not additional physical controls.

The combination matters when comparing photos or trims. A vehicle can have the same physical climate, window, audio and steering-wheel controls while differing in screen equipment. Conversely, a large central screen does not imply that the climate or audio functions have moved back onto the screen.

Launch timing and market-specific trim information
Volkswagen Spain announced the electric ID. Tiguan on 9 October 2026 and said the model is planned to reach the market in early 2027. The Spanish announcement describes a rollout involving Match, Life, Style and, later, R-Line equipment lines. Those names describe the Spanish-market plan and should not be treated as a universal trim ladder.
Volkswagen UK publishes a separate interior specification and lists the heated multifunction steering wheel from Life upwards. UK equipment, option packs and screen availability can differ from Spain’s. When comparing a dealer car, check the country specification, model year and exact equipment line rather than assuming that a trim name carries identical content across Europe.
Volkswagen’s Spain release also states that more than 950,000 ID.4 and ID.5 vehicles had been produced. That is a cumulative production figure for those two models, not ID. Tiguan production or sales.

Physical buttons versus touch controls
The announced cabin is a mixed interface, not a return to an entirely button-based dashboard. The controls Volkswagen has specifically restored are physical, while the displays remain central to information and infotainment.

The official material establishes the purpose of the main control groups but leaves several details open:

- The exact order and labelling of the four window switches.
- Whether the audio knob has a press function or mode-selection behaviour.
- The complete steering-wheel button map, including long presses and shortcuts.
- Final software menus and equipment combinations for every market and trim.
These omissions are normal for a vehicle announced before launch. The planned early-2027 market arrival means production cars, regional configurators and owner information are the appropriate references for final instructions.
How to identify the controls when your car arrives
- Confirm the market and equipment line. Check whether the car follows the Spanish, UK or another regional specification, and record the model year and trim.
- Locate the four physical groups. Find the climate button bar in the centre console, the rotary audio control, the driver’s-door window panel and the steering-wheel buttons.
- Test only the documented functions first. Verify that the door panel reaches all four windows, the rotary control changes volume and audio selections, and the steering-wheel View button changes the cockpit display.
- Use the digital owner information for symbols. Look up each climate and steering-wheel icon in the vehicle’s current instructions rather than relying on a photograph from another trim.
- Check optional equipment separately. Confirm whether the car has the 12-inch passenger display and, in UK specification, whether it is the Life line or above for the heated multifunction steering wheel.
- Record software-dependent behaviour. If a control behaves differently after a software update, consult the current digital instructions for that vehicle identification and market.
Bottom line for prospective buyers
The ID. Tiguan’s confirmed physical controls cover the functions drivers most often adjust: basic climate settings, all four windows, audio volume, station or track changes and key steering-wheel actions. The View button adds a direct way to select the Retro instrument display. The concept is clear, but the exact symbols, button map, options and trim content remain market-specific until production cars and final owner information are available.
