A reservation page also showed a promotional price from VND 178.6 million, so any comparison must be dated. Your real ownership cost is that purchase price plus registration and statutory charges, insurance, electricity, scheduled maintenance, tyres, parking and financing, minus incentives and eventual resale value. The figures that can be calculated now are the battery-energy requirement and the warranty terms; a complete five-year cash total still requires your province, mileage, charging tariff, insurance quote and an authorized-service maintenance estimate.
What the VF 2 price includes—and which date applies
VinFast’s corporate launch release dated 5 July 2026 states that the VF 2 is offered at “188 triệu đồng (gồm pin),” or VND 188 million with the battery included. The reservation announcement subsequently displayed a promotional price from VND 178.6 million. Treat VND 188 million as the dated launch reference and VND 178.6 million as a promotion shown on the reservation page, not as a permanent list price. Confirm the price on the day you sign because promotions, stock, taxes and delivery conditions can change.

Use the same ownership period and distance for every vehicle you compare. A low purchase price can be offset by expensive financing or insurance, while a high-mileage driver may save more from electric energy than a low-mileage driver.
Start with your driving pattern
Annual kilometres determine both electricity consumption and distance-based maintenance. Record your expected yearly distance, the percentage charged at home, the percentage charged publicly, and how many months remain in any free-charging promotion. Keep those assumptions visible rather than presenting one “typical” VF 2 bill.

The table multiplies the official NEDC quotient by distance. The 10% and 20% columns are planning sensitivities, not VinFast test results: wall-meter energy can be higher because of charging losses, temperature, traffic, speed, payload, air-conditioning and battery-conditioning. Replace them with your own meter readings once you have several months of use.
Charging cost: what the specifications mean in practice
Battery, range and charging hardware
VinFast lists an 18.3 kWh usable battery and a claimed 210 km NEDC range. Dividing 18.3 by 210 gives approximately 0.087 kWh per kilometre on that test cycle. It is an energy-use reference, not a guarantee of wall-meter consumption or real-world range.
The product information lists a maximum 3.3 kW AC charging rate, about 24 kW maximum DC charging and 34 minutes for a 10%-to-70% fast-charge session. A 3.3 kW limit means a small home charger cannot deliver energy at the rate of a larger AC unit; actual time also depends on the vehicle’s state of charge, temperature and the charger’s available output. The 24 kW figure is a maximum hardware specification, not a promise that every public charger will supply that power.

Home-charging calculation
For home charging, multiply your chosen wall-meter energy estimate by your electricity tariff:
annual home-charging cost = annual kilometres × 0.087 kWh/km × (1 + assumed loss) × home tariff per kWh
For example, at 10,000 km a year, the NEDC-based energy is about 871 kWh. A 10% planning allowance makes it about 959 kWh; a 20% allowance makes it about 1,046 kWh. Insert the tariff on your bill, and separate any fixed household charge that would exist even without the car. If you use time-of-use pricing, calculate each charging period separately.
Public charging and the free-session allowance
The reservation offer says owners receive 10 free V-Green charging sessions per month through 10 February 2029. The announcement dated 15 July 2026 describes this as “miễn phí sạc pin 10 lần/tháng … đến hết ngày 10/2/2029.” Do not extend the benefit beyond that date without a new official notice. The number of sessions alone does not reveal the free energy: check the current terms for session limits, eligible stations, booking rules and overstay treatment.
After the allowance ends—or when a session is not eligible—use the applicable V-Green tariff or your home-electricity tariff. Model public and home charging as separate lines because a public tariff can include time or service components that do not appear on a household electricity bill.

Occupancy fees are separate from energy
A separate VinFast FAQ states that supplemental charging-station occupancy fees apply from 1 November 2025, including VND 2,000 per minute from minute 61 through minute 120. This is a possible dwell-time charge, not an energy price. A free charging session can still create an occupancy fee if the vehicle remains connected long enough. Put energy, free-session credits and occupancy fees in different columns in your spreadsheet.
Registration and on-road charges in Vietnam
Use the official estimator as a checklist, not a guaranteed invoice
VinFast’s rolling ownership-cost estimator identifies these categories:
- registration fee;
- one-year road-use fee;
- one-year compulsory civil-liability insurance;
- license-plate fee;
- inspection fee; and
- other state or on-road charges.
The estimator labels its result as indicative. Enter your actual registration province and vehicle details, then verify the amount with the registration authority or dealer before paying. Keep one-time registration expenses separate from recurring annual fees so a first-year comparison does not accidentally become a five-year total.
Check the electric-vehicle registration exemption for your date
VinFast’s securities filing reports that qualifying new battery-powered vehicles with up to nine seats received a 0% first-time registration fee for three years from 1 March 2022 under Decree 10/2022/ND-CP. That statement is time-limited and legal rules can be replaced or amended. Confirm whether the exemption or a successor policy applies on your actual registration date and in your province; do not assume that a vehicle ordered during a promotion automatically qualifies.
If the exemption applies, record the saving as an incentive in the TCO model rather than silently reducing the purchase price. If it does not apply, use the current provincial registration assessment. Plate, inspection, road-use and other charges may remain payable even when the first-registration fee is zero.

Insurance: compulsory cover versus protection you choose
The estimator includes one year of compulsory civil-liability insurance, but the retrieved official material does not publish a universal VF 2 premium. Obtain a written quote for your province, driver profile, use case and policy period. Renewals may not equal the first-year quote.
Price compulsory civil-liability cover as its own line. Then request optional comprehensive cover separately, specifying deductibles, flood and storm protection, battery and charging-equipment treatment, theft, glass, roadside assistance and authorized-repair requirements. Two cars with the same purchase price can have very different comprehensive premiums, so do not compare a VF 2 with a petrol car using one vehicle’s compulsory policy and the other’s full cover.
For a five-year model, state whether insurance is held constant, escalates annually, or is replaced by dated quotes. If you cannot obtain a model-specific quote, mark the field “not stated” rather than substituting a generic EV percentage.

The terms come from the VF 2 reservation announcement. VinFast’s warranty policy says coverage is available throughout Vietnam through authorized service centers and dealers, with repairs free under the applicable conditions. The time and distance limits operate on a whichever-comes-first basis, so a high-mileage user can reach the kilometre cap before the calendar period ends.

Scheduled service is still required
VinFast describes periodic maintenance as a warranty condition and publishes service intervals by elapsed time or kilometres. Its notice says electric-car maintenance milestones were adjusted from 1 January 2026. Follow the interval that applies to your vehicle’s delivery documentation and the latest authorized-center schedule; retain invoices and inspection records in case a warranty claim requires proof of maintenance.

No authoritative official page in the available material gives a complete VF 2 service-basket price. Do not present a guessed five-year maintenance total. Ask an authorized center for a dated quotation that itemizes labor, inspection, fluids, filters, brake checks, software work and any model-specific parts. Request separate prices for routine service and wear items so you can update the model when a component is actually needed.
Budget for tyres and consumables
Tyres, wheel alignment, wiper blades, brake components and other consumables are outside the battery-energy calculation. Their cost depends on wheel specification, road surface, driving style and replacement interval. Record the original tyre size and ask the service center for replacement options; do not infer a tyre price from the vehicle’s purchase price.
A five-year worksheet you can audit
Build the model in dated rows. Enter the purchase price actually contracted, financing interest and fees, one-time registration items, annual road-use and insurance renewals, electricity by charging source, scheduled service invoices, tyres and consumables, parking and tolls, then subtract confirmed incentives and a conservative resale estimate.

At 10,000 km annually, a five-year owner drives 50,000 km and uses about 4,357 kWh on the NEDC quotient before losses. A 10% planning allowance produces roughly 4,793 kWh; a 20% allowance produces about 5,229 kWh. Multiply those totals by the relevant tariff mix, then subtract only free charging that is actually available during each calendar month. This gives an auditable energy subtotal without pretending that a tariff or service price is universal.
How to compare the VF 2 with a petrol city car or another EV
Use identical assumptions for every candidate:
- the same annual kilometres and ownership period;
- purchase price after incentives, with financing treated consistently;
- fuel or electricity energy price and realistic consumption;
- home-charging access and public-charging dependence;
- compulsory and optional insurance scopes;
- scheduled-service and wear-item quotations;
- registration treatment in the same province;
- parking, tolls and any access benefits; and
- expected resale value at the same age and mileage.
Do not claim that the VF 2 is universally cheaper to own. A driver with free home parking and mostly home charging may see a different result from a driver who relies on public stations and incurs occupancy fees. Likewise, a high-mileage owner may value the longer battery-warranty distance differently from a low-mileage owner. Show the assumptions and let the reader change them.
Before signing: a practical verification checklist
- Confirm whether your contract price is VND 188 million, the displayed VND 178.6 million promotion, or another dated offer, and verify that the battery is included.
- Ask for the written terms of the 10-free-session monthly allowance, including eligible stations, session limits and its 10 February 2029 end date.
- Check the current V-Green tariff and the charging-station occupancy rules, including the VND 2,000-per-minute window that can begin at minute 61.
- Measure or estimate your home electricity tariff and identify whether your electrical installation can support the 3.3 kW AC maximum.
- Run the registration estimator for your province, then confirm the first-registration treatment on your actual registration date.
- Get separate compulsory-liability and comprehensive-insurance quotations in writing.
- Request an authorized-center maintenance schedule and a dated, itemized VF 2 quotation; ask how the 1 January 2026 interval change applies to your delivery.
- Save warranty, service and charging receipts and track mileage so the five-year/130,000-km vehicle and seven-year/160,000-km battery limits are not missed.
What can be concluded today
The VF 2 has a clearly stated battery-included launch price, a small 18.3 kWh usable battery, and a promotional free-charging period that can materially reduce early public-charging expenditure. Its ownership case is strongest when annual mileage, home charging and registration eligibility are favorable. The items that prevent a single universal TCO figure are equally important: insurance premiums, post-promotion tariffs, provincial fees and a complete model-specific maintenance schedule are not stated in the available official material. A transparent worksheet using your own quotes will therefore be more reliable than an internet-wide “cost per year” headline.
