JerryRigEverything’s March 8, 2024 video tested a Cybertruck with several types of ammunition, and Futurism reported that some rounds penetrated the truck’s door. That demonstration does not establish that every Cybertruck—or every part of one—is either bulletproof or unprotected: Tesla’s later claim is narrower, and the sources do not identify a formal ballistic standard for the video.
What JerryRigEverything tested
JerryRigEverything published “Is the Cybertruck *ACTUALLY* bulletproof?! (vs .50 cal rifle) on March 8, 2024. Its video description lists .22, .17, several 9mm rounds, .223, and .50-caliber ammunition. That is the creator’s stated test scope, not an independently verified inventory.

The description’s question—“But to which bullets?”—gets at the central problem with calling a vehicle bulletproof. The outcome depends on the particular ammunition and where it hits; the label alone does not specify either.
Which rounds reportedly penetrated
In a March 11, 2024 account, Futurism’s Victor Tangermann reported that a .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire round penetrated the stainless steel. He also reported that an AR round went through both the outer steel and the interior door panel, and that a .50-caliber round penetrated the door.

Those are outcomes reported by Futurism from the video, not findings from an independent laboratory report. Futurism quotes creator Zack Nelson, while examining a hole in the door, saying, “I can see through the truck from here.” Nelson also concluded: “Still, slowing down a bullet is still infinitely better than letting it pass through both sides of the vehicle.”
What Tesla says—and what that does not mean
In a manufacturer-authored explainer published June 20, 2025, Tesla wrote: “While standard car doors cannot withstand any ballistic impact, Cybertruck HFS can resist penetration from some forms of small arms fire.” Tesla’s statement describes resistance to some forms of fire; it does not promise resistance to every round, impact location, or vehicle component.

Read together, the video and Tesla’s statement are not contradictory: resistance to some ammunition does not mean the truck stops all ammunition. Neither the video description, Futurism’s report, nor Tesla’s explainer establishes a formal ballistic protocol or certification covering the whole vehicle. The demonstration also cannot establish how glass, other body panels, or occupants would fare in an attack.
Why the test is not a universal verdict
- Different ammunition, different results: the creator’s description names several types of rounds, and Futurism reports penetration by some. Those details do not support a blanket claim about all ammunition.
- Impact location matters: the reported outcomes concern the door. They do not establish the protection offered by every part of the Cybertruck.
- A video is not a certification: the sources reviewed do not document a standardized ballistic test protocol or a universal protection rating for the vehicle.
What the repair manual says about damaged stainless steel
Tesla’s Cybertruck Collision Repair Manual, under “Body Structure Materials and Allowed Operations,” says welding repairs cannot be performed on stainless-steel components and directs qualified professionals to specified exterior refinishing procedures for scratches. This is limited repair guidance; it is not advice to attempt a repair or evidence that a particular repair method is suitable for bullet damage.
