What is the Spira4u electric three-wheeler?
Spira4u is a compact three-wheeled vehicle whose electric prototype New Atlas drove in Detroit in 2015. The review describes an unusual tiller steering mechanism and says buyers could add a second motor. Its account is a period test-drive report, not evidence that the same specification reached production or remains available.
New Atlas contributor Loz Blain summarized the tested version this way: “The US$9,000 electric version of the Spira4u that we drove in Detroit weighs in at around 236 kg (520 lb) and is fitted with a 10 kW (13.4 hp) motor that delivers a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph), with the option to add a second motor.” New Atlas, January 21, 2015
What specifications did the review and owner’s manual give?
The New Atlas figures describe the vehicle it drove; the owner’s manual is manufacturer documentation and may not describe every prototype or configuration.

How fast does the Spira4u go?
The New Atlas review reported a 100 km/h (62 mph) top speed for the electric version it drove. The owner’s manual separately lists a maximum speed of at least 100 km/h. Neither figure should be treated as a current production specification: both refer to 2015-era material, and the manual’s figure is a manufacturer specification rather than a documented independent speed test.
How far can the Spira4u travel on a charge?
Available period reports describe more than one proposed battery configuration, but they do not establish an independently measured range for the vehicle New Atlas drove. MotorTrend’s January 16, 2015 first-drive story reported a 5 kWh battery configuration priced at US$9,000 and a higher-capacity option advertised at US$13,000 with a claimed 140-mile range. That 140-mile figure was a claim, not an independently measured range test, and the prices are historical.

Spira4u’s own website has also made lithium-battery range claims of 80–150 miles and said solar contribution could reach 20 miles per day. Those are company claims, not verified real-world results. Without a defined battery configuration, test conditions, and measured consumption, the figures do not provide a dependable estimate of how far a particular Spira4u would travel.
Is the Spira4u safe?
Spira4u describes a honeycomb composite chassis and expanded polypropylene foam panels, presenting the foam as protection for occupants and pedestrians. That is the manufacturer’s safety rationale; the available material does not establish a standardized crash rating or independently verified comparative safety advantage.

The company has published prototype-driving and crash-test videos. Their existence shows what the company chose to publish, but does not by itself establish the test protocol, a statistical safety result, or a rating comparable with those for other vehicles.

It establishes that New Atlas drove and reviewed an electric Spira4u prototype in Detroit in January 2015 and reported its price and performance at that time. MotorTrend’s report provides additional context on proposed battery options. These sources do not establish whether Spira4u vehicles are currently being sold, what they cost now, whether batteries or service are available, or whether one can be registered for road use in a particular jurisdiction. Check current manufacturer documentation and local vehicle-registration rules before treating it as a purchase or road-use option.

For a comparison with another urban vehicle, use figures from the same period and market where possible. Separate measured range from advertised range, and compare speed, mass, payload, seating and cargo capacity, controls, removable-battery arrangements, charging, service access, and the relevant road classification. The 2015 material does not resolve several of those points for a current buyer.
