In a video reported in November 2023, former India captain MS Dhoni gave an autograph on the rear area of a fan’s luxury car. Reports identified the car as a BMW 740i Series in Ranchi, and said Dhoni signed the backseat after the fan offered a few marker pens to choose from.
What the clip showed
The clip circulated on social media on November 10, 2023. Scroll embedded a post from the DHONIsm™ account, captioned “Video of the day : MS Dhoni delights a fan by giving autograph on the car,” and published its own short video report the next day, on November 11, 2023. Scroll’s headline described the moment as Dhoni giving his autograph on “a part of his fan’s luxury car.”
The coverage is consistent on the core event: Dhoni signed a fan’s car, and the signature was placed inside the vehicle rather than on its exterior. Beyond that, the details come from secondary reports of a social-media video, not from a statement by Dhoni or the car owner.
Details reported by each outlet
| Detail | What was reported | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Signer | Former India captain MS Dhoni | Scroll, November 11, 2023 |
| Car model | BMW 740i Series, described as newly bought | ABP Live and The Times of India, November 11, 2023 |
| Location | Ranchi | ABP Live, November 11, 2023 |
| Car owner | Named as Abhishek Kerketta in ABP Live’s account | ABP Live, November 11, 2023 |
| Signing spot | Backseat (ABP Live); a rear-seat handrest was also mentioned in other coverage | ABP Live, November 11, 2023 |
| Writing tool | Three sketch pens offered; Dhoni chose one. Brand, model and ink type not stated | ABP Live, November 11, 2023 |
| Video source | Attributed to an Instagram account, identified as belonging to Sumeet Kumar Bajaj | The Times of India, November 11, 2023 |
The two outlets that name the car agree on the model. The signing spot is reported with slightly different wording, so “rear seat area” is the most accurate shorthand for the location.

What is not established
- The original upload. The reports point to social posts, but none of the coverage establishes who first recorded the video or whether it was edited.
- Dhoni’s own words. No verified statement from Dhoni about this autograph has been published in the coverage, so none is quoted here.
- The pen. The reports say a choice was made from three sketch pens, but do not identify the product.
- The upholstery and its treatment. The reports do not say what material the seat is, whether the ink is permanent, or whether the mark can be removed.
- Current engagement. Views and likes on the post vary by outlet and by when they were captured, so no figure is given here.
Why the story still circulates
Dhoni’s fan following in Ranchi and across India is large, and the clip combined two things people share readily: a celebrity signing autographs and an unusual surface to sign. Coverage at the time also quoted social media reactions that joked about the signature being worth more than the car, which helped the story travel. That reaction is commentary, not evidence about the car or the ink.
If you are considering a similar signature
The reports give no guidance on signing interiors. If the question is practical, the safest approach is to ask the vehicle’s maker, a trim specialist or the upholstery supplier before using any marker on leather or fabric. Do not rely on a general sketch pen recommendation for an expensive interior, because the coverage does not show how the mark behaved on this seat.
