The Vida DIRT.E K3 has three selectable drive modes. VIDA’s 2026 specification sheet rates them at 8–9, 17–18 and 23–24 km/h; launch coverage calls the same settings Low, Mid and High and rounds the fastest to 25 km/h. Parents change the top-speed and acceleration settings in VIDA’s connected app. The bike has a dedicated HMI display, but VIDA has not publicly documented its icon legend or menu system. Regenerative braking is not confirmed in the available K3 documentation, so it should not be assumed.
What the three K3 riding modes mean
VIDA’s key-specification sheet identifies the settings as modes 1, 2 and 3. Independent launch coverage uses the more descriptive names Low, Mid and High for the same progression. The published figures are speed ceilings, not guarantees that the bike will reach those speeds on every surface, slope, rider weight or battery state.

| VIDA mode | Common launch label | Published top-speed range | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mode 1 | Low | 8–9 km/h | First practice, tight spaces and riders learning throttle and braking control |
| Mode 2 | Mid | 17–18 km/h | Confident riders on a clear, familiar practice area |
| Mode 3 | High | 23–24 km/h; launch reports round this to 25 km/h | Experienced young riders with close supervision and adequate open space |
The exact acceleration curves for each mode have not been published. Therefore, do not treat a mode number as a measured acceleration setting. A higher mode primarily gives the rider a higher available speed ceiling; how quickly the K3 reaches that ceiling can vary with conditions and battery state.

Mode 1 (Low)
Low is the sensible starting point for a child who has not used the K3 before. It gives the rider time to learn thumb-throttle pressure, steering corrections, stopping distance and body position without immediately having the fastest setting available. Begin on a level, unobstructed surface and keep the first sessions short enough that the rider remains attentive.

Mode 2 (Mid)
Mid is an intermediate setting for a rider who can launch, turn and stop repeatedly in Low without grabbing the brake abruptly or losing balance. Move up only after the rider demonstrates those skills consistently. The 17–18 km/h ceiling is substantially higher than Low, so increase the size of the practice area and leave more room for stopping.
Mode 3 (High)
High makes the K3’s full published speed range available. Reserve it for a rider who can control the bike at lower settings, understands where riding is permitted and can respond calmly to an unexpected obstacle. A 23–24 km/h ceiling is fast enough to require full protective equipment, a large clear area and direct adult supervision. The launch figure of 25 km/h is a rounded description, not a separate fourth mode.
How parents control speed and acceleration in the VIDA app
VIDA says parents can manage ride settings through its connected app, control top speed, track usage and fine-tune speed and acceleration. Autocar’s launch coverage likewise reports that a parent can adjust the riding mode and speed limit from a connected smartphone. These statements establish app-based control, but they do not publish a universal button-by-button setup procedure.
- Install and open the official VIDA app used for the K3, then follow the app’s current on-screen account and vehicle-connection instructions.
- Open the ride-settings area presented for the connected K3. The exact menu names can change with app releases, so use the labels shown on your phone rather than an old screenshot.
- Choose the intended mode or set the permitted top speed and acceleration. Keep the first setting at the lowest level appropriate for the rider.
- Save or confirm the change in the app, then allow the bike and phone to complete any displayed synchronization process.
- Before riding, have the child test the response at walking pace in a clear area. Confirm that the setting behaves as expected before moving to a larger space.
Public K3 material does not document Bluetooth-pairing button sequences, firmware prompts, a specific app version, or whether every setting is available in every market. If a menu or pairing prompt differs from these descriptions, use the current in-app instructions or VIDA support rather than guessing at a hidden control.

Speed limit versus riding mode
A mode is the K3’s predefined riding profile, while a speed limit is the maximum speed a parent permits through the app. The public sources do not explain whether a custom limit replaces a mode ceiling or operates as an additional cap. Treat the lower of the two displayed limits as the practical maximum and check the result with a slow-speed test after every change.
What the K3 display (HMI) shows—and what is not documented
VIDA’s parts catalogue lists a replaceable “Unit Hmi” and “Holder Hmi” for the DIRT.E K3. That confirms a dedicated human-machine interface/display assembly and shows that the unit is serviceable as a part. It does not provide a user manual or a complete screen map.
The reviewed K3 product and specification pages do not publish an icon legend, brightness control, unit selection, odometer fields, Bluetooth-indicator behavior or a mode-switch animation. Do not promise a child that the display will show any particular trip, battery or connectivity field unless the bike’s own manual or current interface confirms it.

- Check that the display powers on and remains readable before every ride.
- Verify the selected mode or permitted speed in the app, then confirm that the bike’s on-bike indication (if present) agrees.
- Look for warning symbols or an error message and stop riding if one appears.
- Do not change an unknown setting while moving; stop the bike first and consult VIDA documentation.
- Record the exact icon, wording and circumstances of an unfamiliar warning before contacting support. A photograph can help support identify the HMI state.
Because the public documentation is incomplete, claims that the K3 has a particular odometer layout, a user-selectable km/h–mph switch or a specific Bluetooth animation should be treated as unverified.

Does the Vida DIRT.E K3 have regenerative braking?
Regenerative braking is unconfirmed. The reviewed official K3 specification lists a 160 mm rear disc brake and the three drive modes but does not mention energy recovery, a regen-strength setting or a regeneration indicator. The K3 product page and launch reports reviewed for this model also make no such claim.
Do not transfer regenerative-braking features from VIDA’s road scooters to this youth dirt bike. Until VIDA publishes an owner manual or a technical statement that names regeneration for the K3, assume that releasing the thumb throttle does not recharge the battery and that stopping is provided by the mechanical brake system.
How to brake safely without relying on regen
- Release the thumb throttle early when approaching a turn, person or obstacle.
- Use the specified rear disc brake progressively, keeping the bike straight while learning stopping distances.
- Practice controlled stops in Low before increasing speed.
- Never test a suspected regen effect on a slope or near an obstacle; use the mechanical brake and leave a generous safety margin.
The 160 mm rear disc specification identifies the brake hardware, not a stopping-distance result. Actual performance depends on surface, tire condition, rider technique, slope, load and maintenance.
Battery, charging time and why range varies
The K3 uses a 360 Wh lithium-ion battery. VIDA’s 2026 key-specification sheet quotes approximately two hours to charge from 20% to 80% at 25 °C with the battery on the vehicle. That is a partial-charge estimate under the stated temperature and installation condition, not a promise for a full 0–100% charge or for every ambient temperature.

VIDA’s workshop guidance says battery behavior depends on ambient temperature, battery temperature, usage pattern and cell state of health. A rider using High mode, accelerating repeatedly or riding on soft ground can therefore see different consumption from a rider cruising gently in Low. Cold or hot conditions can also alter charging time and available performance.
Charging checklist
- Park the K3 securely and use the charger and connection method specified by VIDA.
- Allow an unusually hot or cold battery to return toward a normal temperature before charging.
- Inspect the connector and cable for damage or contamination before plugging in.
- Keep the bike and charger dry and supervised during charging.
- Use the app or display information available on your particular bike to check charge status, but do not infer range from a single ride.
Core controls and equipment relevant to the modes
The K3 uses a thumb throttle rather than a twist grip. That control can be easier for a small rider to understand, but it still demands a deliberate hand position and gradual pressure. Practice with one finger ready for the rear brake and the rider’s eyes looking ahead instead of down at the control.
BikeWale’s launch coverage describes the K3 as aimed at children aged 4–10. That is a launch-description age range, not a substitute for checking the child’s size, ability, local rules and VIDA’s current safety guidance. A child who fits the age range may still need to remain in Low until their control skills are established.

A safe progression plan for families
Before the first ride
- Inspect throttle return, rear-brake lever feel, tires, fasteners and the display.
- Confirm the app’s selected limit and mode while the bike is stationary.
- Fit a properly sized full-face helmet and protective riding gear; add gloves, long sleeves, trousers and suitable boots.
- Choose a flat, private or otherwise permitted area free of traffic, pedestrians and fixed obstacles.
First session
- Start in Low and let the rider practice moving off a few metres at a time.
- Practice releasing the throttle, applying the rear brake smoothly and stopping on command.
- Add wide turns only after straight-line starts and stops are consistent.
- End the session if the rider becomes tired, startled or unable to repeat the exercise calmly.
Moving to a faster mode
Increase to Mid only when the rider can demonstrate repeatable starts, turns and stops in Low. Recheck those skills in Mid before considering High. The supervising adult should set the limit, stay close enough to intervene and never use a higher mode to compensate for a rider who is struggling with control.

Common problems and what to check
The bike feels faster or slower than expected
Confirm the selected mode and any separate speed limit in the app, then test on the same type of surface. Battery state, rider load, slope, temperature and loose ground can change acceleration and achievable speed. The published figures are ceilings, not a guaranteed speedometer reading.
The app setting does not appear to change the bike
Stop riding, verify that the phone is connected to the intended K3, revisit the current app’s save or confirmation prompt and allow synchronization to finish. If the app shows a warning or the bike displays an error, record it and contact VIDA support. Do not invent a button sequence or repeatedly change settings while the bike is moving.
The display is blank or unreadable
Do not ride until the power connection and battery status have been checked according to VIDA’s instructions. Because the HMI is a replaceable assembly, persistent failure may require inspection of the display unit, holder, wiring or related components by an authorized technician.
