How long the K3 battery takes to charge
The published estimate
VIDA specifies approximately two hours to charge from 20% to 80% at an ambient temperature of 25 °C. The figure applies to the 360 Wh battery and the supplied 230 V charger. It does not state a universal time from empty to full, so do not turn the two-hour estimate into a promise for a complete charge.
Charge and discharge rates change with ambient temperature, battery temperature, usage pattern and cell health. A pack that has just been ridden hard, has been stored in heat or cold, or has aged through many cycles may pause, slow down or take longer than the key-sheet estimate. Plan the next session around the battery indicator rather than a fixed timer.
Before connecting the charger
- Park the K3 in a dry location with adequate ventilation and no direct sun. Keep it away from fuel, paper, clothing, water and other combustible or obstructive material.
- Let a battery that is unusually hot or cold return to a normal indoor operating temperature before charging. Do not try to force a charge on a pack that feels abnormally hot.
- Inspect the battery casing, connector, charger body and cable. Look for cracks, swelling, crushed insulation, exposed conductors, corrosion, a loose connector or any sign of impact.
- Do not charge a damaged battery. Isolate it from people and combustible items and contact VIDA or an authorized service provider for advice.
Safe charging procedure
- Use only the cord and charger supplied for the K3. A connector that fits is not proof that a third-party charger has the correct voltage, current or battery-management communication.
- Place the battery and charger on a stable, non-covered surface. Keep ventilation openings clear and do not put either item under a blanket, inside a bag or in a closed box.
- Connect the charger as described in the VIDA instructions, then connect it to the 230 V supply. Check that the indicator behaves normally for the K3; stop if there is sparking, an error indication, an unusual smell or excessive heat.
- Keep children and pets away while charging. Do not leave the assembly buried under objects or in a vehicle where heat can build up.
- When the battery is full, disconnect the power and remove the battery from the charger. Do not leave a full pack continuously connected as a storage habit.
- Allow the pack to settle in a dry, ventilated place before installing it or moving it into storage.
If smoke, fumes or fire appear
Move people away immediately. Disconnect mains power only if you can do so without touching the battery, flames, smoke or damaged wiring. Do not handle a burning, leaking or severely hot pack and do not put yourself between it and an exit. Contact emergency services for an active fire or immediate danger, then contact VIDA or authorized service when it is safe. A damaged lithium-ion battery can reignite after it appears to stop, so do not return it to use.

How to store the K3 battery between rides and over a season
Short breaks between rides
If the K3 will sit for several days, finish charging or stop at the level recommended in the VIDA instructions, disconnect the charger and let the battery cool to a normal temperature. Wipe away moisture from the exterior without opening the casing. If the pack is removed from the bike, keep it in a dry area with adequate ventilation, away from direct sunlight and hot vehicles.
Never use a car boot, sealed plastic container, roof box or shed that becomes an oven in the afternoon as a battery store. Heat accelerates degradation and can make the next charge unsafe. Freezing conditions also change charge and discharge behaviour; avoid leaving the pack outdoors overnight in extreme cold.
Seasonal storage checklist
- Clean and inspect the battery and its connector. Do not disassemble the pack to clean internal parts.
- Store it in a dry, ventilated indoor area protected from rain, condensation, direct sun and vehicle exhaust.
- Keep it separate from ignition sources and from loose metal objects that could bridge the terminals.
- Check the state of charge periodically because the pack gradually discharges even when unused. Follow VIDA’s battery-care instructions for the correct check and recharge procedure before the first ride of the next season.
- Before reinstalling it, inspect for swelling, cracks, leakage, corrosion, odour or unusual heat. Any of those signs requires an authorized assessment rather than a test ride.
What not to do with an old or damaged pack
- Do not open, modify, puncture or attempt a cell repair.
- Do not place a damaged pack in household rubbish, a normal recycling bin or a parcel for ordinary shipping.
- Do not attempt DIY recycling. Use local battery-disposal rules and an authorized collection or VIDA service channel.
Temperature is not merely a storage concern: it also affects the rate at which the battery accepts and delivers energy. If the K3 has been left in extreme heat or cold, allow it to reach a moderate temperature and recheck its condition before selecting a speed mode.

Supervision and trail selection are part of the vehicle’s safety system
The adult’s legal and practical role
VIDA’s owner safety advice says, “The vehicle must always be operated under the direct, constant supervision of a responsible adult (aged 18+).” That means the adult stays close enough to intervene, watches the rider continuously and does not supervise from a phone, a distant window or another vehicle. The same advice says, “This vehicle is designed for training and is not a toy.”
The supervising adult should inspect the entire riding area before every session, select the mode, explain the boundaries and stop the ride when conditions change. A child should not be allowed to choose a faster mode, enter a road or continue after a fall without an adult’s assessment.
Choose the speed mode before moving

Confirm the selected mode before every session. The connected app lets the supervising adult manage top speed, track usage and adjust ride settings; use it to verify the limit when terrain, weather or rider confidence changes. Do not assume the last setting remains suitable for the next outing.

Assessing grass, gravel and uneven ground
The K3 may be used on a grass, gravel or uneven surface only when an adult has inspected that particular area and judged it suitable. The published material does not establish a blanket rating for every type of grass, gravel, mud, slope or rut, and it does not replace a site assessment. A surface that is acceptable when dry can become hazardous after rain.
- Grass: Check for hidden holes, wet patches, roots, stones, animal waste and a clear run-off area. Wet grass can reduce braking and cornering grip.
- Gravel: Use a firm, compacted section free of deep loose stones. Loose rock can deflect the front wheel, reduce traction and damage moving components.
- Uneven ground: Begin in Mode 1, approach bumps slowly and keep the rider away from sharp drop-offs, deep ruts and obstacles that could trap a wheel. The adult should walk the route first.
Keep the K3 away from public roads, traffic, water crossings, steep drop-offs, blind corners, poor lighting and areas where pedestrians cannot be kept clear. Stop when visibility, surface grip, weather or battery condition becomes uncertain. There is no independent range or durability test establishing how far the K3 travels on any of these surfaces, so do not plan a route around an unverified distance claim.
Protective equipment every K3 rider should wear
VIDA’s required protective equipment is a properly fitted certified youth helmet, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Treat all five items as a pre-ride requirement, not optional equipment for faster modes.

- Helmet: Choose a certified youth motorcycle or off-road helmet that fits the rider’s current head measurement. The certification label should be present and legible; the chin strap must stay snug without choking, and the helmet must not rock over the eyes or expose the back of the head.
- Gloves: They protect hands from abrasion and improve grip. Check that fingers reach the controls without excess material catching on levers or grips.
- Knee and elbow pads: Secure each pad over the joint so it cannot rotate away during a fall. Straps should be tight enough to hold position but not restrict circulation.
- Sturdy closed-toe shoes: Use footwear with a secure fastening and a sole that can stay on the footpegs. Do not ride in sandals, loose slippers or bare feet.
- Clothing: Secure laces, scarves, drawstrings and loose hems away from the wheels, hub motor and controls. Remove dangling accessories before the rider mounts.
Replace gear after a significant impact, when a shell or pad is cracked, or when straps no longer hold the correct fit. A helmet that looks intact can still have hidden impact damage.
Fit the adjustable K3 to the rider
The K3 has adjustable S, M and L wheelbase positions of 751, 834 and 912 mm. Select the position that allows the rider to reach the controls naturally, keep both feet placed securely and turn without stretching or crowding. An adult should make the adjustment and confirm that all fasteners are secure before the first movement.
Wheelbase is not a substitute for supervision or skill. A longer setting may change how the vehicle turns in a tight area, while a shorter setting may feel more manoeuvrable; the rider still needs a slow practice run after any adjustment. Recheck the setting if the vehicle is shared by children of different sizes.
Pre-ride, during-ride and post-ride checks
Before the rider mounts
- Verify the battery is correctly installed, has no damage or unusual heat and has enough charge for the planned session.
- Inspect the charger connector area, controls, wheels, tyres, brakes and visible fasteners for damage or looseness.
- Confirm helmet, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads and closed-toe shoes are fitted.
- Walk the route; remove loose obstacles and establish a boundary away from roads, people and drop-offs.
- Set the app and vehicle to the lowest suitable speed mode and explain the stop signal.
While riding
- Keep the adult within direct, constant view and close enough to intervene.
- Practise starts, straight-line travel, controlled turns and braking before covering distance.
- Watch for fatigue, loss of concentration, overheating, unusual noises, warning indicators or a change in grip.
- Stop immediately after a fall or impact and inspect the rider and vehicle before deciding whether to continue.
After the session
- Power down as directed by VIDA, clear mud and debris from accessible areas and inspect for new damage.
- Do not connect the charger until the battery, connector and cable have passed the damage and heat check.
- Record any warning, unusual odour, reduced response or impact and obtain authorized service before the next ride if it remains unresolved.
When to use VIDA-authorized service
Use an authorized VIDA channel for battery faults, charging errors, damaged connectors, electrical warnings, unusual heat and compatibility questions. VIDA publishes replacement HMI/display parts for the DIRT.E K3 through its official spare-parts material; match the exact part and installation guidance rather than fitting a generic display.
Do not open the battery, bypass its protection electronics, splice the charging cable or modify speed controls. Those actions can create a fire or loss-of-control hazard and can make later diagnosis impossible. An authorized technician can determine whether a component is compatible and whether a damaged pack must be quarantined or replaced.
A practical decision guide for each outing

Following this sequence keeps the K3 in its intended role: a controlled training vehicle operated by a prepared rider under continuous adult supervision. The charging estimate, storage guidance and speed figures are useful only when the battery, equipment, route and rider are all in a condition the adult can confidently manage.
