The Vickywood Hazel is a hard-shell rooftop tent that can open in a wedge shape or lift at both ends into a fuller tent. Unzip its lower perimeter and the roof and base, and the tent opens into a reported 270-degree panoramic balcony-like space. New Atlas described the design on October 1, 2025; its listed prices and specifications are figures reported at that time, not confirmed current listings.
How the Hazel’s balcony opening works
The Hazel’s shell is reported to be made of ABS and to sit 7.5 inches (19 cm) high when closed. Internal gas struts assist the opening, while a single-side internal latch arrangement is described for operation.
Rather than removing the roof or adding a separate platform, the balcony mode comes from unzipping fabric around the lower perimeter of the Z-frame and around the roof and base. That exposes a wide panoramic opening. Small supports can extend the roof as an awning, providing some overhead cover while leaving the sides open.
New Atlas calls the opening 270 degrees, but its report does not establish a measured setup time. The “5-second” wording in the headline should therefore not be read as a verified setup benchmark.

Two ways to pitch the tent
Wedge configuration
Raise one end of the hard shell to create a wedge-shaped sleeping space. This is the simpler pitched form described in the report; it retains the enclosed tent fabric and windows rather than opening the sides into balcony mode.
Fuller two-end configuration
Raise both ends for a more fully opened tent shape. This provides a different interior configuration from the wedge, while the 270-degree opening is a separate option created by unzipping the fabric around the frame.

Hazel 130 and Hazel 155 compared
These dimensions and weights are reported by New Atlas, not independently verified current specifications. The 155 weight is specified as including the mattress and excluding accessories; the report does not give the same qualification for the 130 weight.

The wider 155 is the roomier option on the reported sleeping dimensions. The report identifies the 130 as a two-person sleeping area but does not give an equivalent occupancy claim for the 155.

What comes with the Hazel 130
New Atlas says the Hazel 130 includes a memory-foam air mattress, a USB-powered pump, a telescopic ladder, and ceiling LED strips. The report does not establish that these items are included with the Hazel 155.
Balcony mode: more view, less enclosure
Opening the tent’s sides creates a broad outlook and a place to lounge with the roof extended as an awning. It also removes much of the enclosure that the standard windowed tent provides. The report raises wind-blown grit as a potential concern, but does not test or quantify dust exposure, wind performance, privacy, or weather resistance. Treat balcony mode as an exposed configuration, not as evidence of protection in poor conditions.

Reported launch prices and current availability
New Atlas reported launch prices including VAT of €2,890 for the Hazel 130 and €3,190 for the Hazel 155, and said both models were available for preorder when its article was published on October 1, 2025. Those figures do not establish current prices, stock, later product revisions, or availability in a particular country. Check Vickywood or an authorized retailer for the exact model, current price, included equipment, and delivery region before buying.
