In December 2021, Seattle approved Veo as a bike-share provider, and the company planned to put 1,500 Cosmo e-bikes on city streets by spring 2022. GeekWire reported that the first 500 were expected the following week. Those figures described a plan, not a verified final fleet: available sources do not establish whether Veo reached 1,500 bikes or when it may have stopped operating in Seattle.
What Veo announced for Seattle
Seattle’s Department of Transportation (SDOT) announced on December 10, 2021, that Veo was approved as the city’s newest bike-share provider. GeekWire reported three days later that the Chicago-based company planned a fleet of 1,500 Cosmo e-bikes by spring 2022, with the first 500 expected the following week. GeekWire’s December 13, 2021 report and SDOT’s announcement document the approval and planned rollout; they do not confirm the eventual fleet size.
The proposal came as Seattle bike-share use was rebounding. GeekWire, citing SDOT data, reported 359,000 bike-share trips in 2021, up from 316,700 in 2020 but below 2.2 million in 2019. The figures refer to Seattle bike-share trips, not trips made on Veo bikes.
How the Cosmo e-bike was described
SDOT characterized Veo’s bikes as electric-assist bicycles designed for people with a range of physical abilities. Riders could pedal and use hand-activated electric power assist through the handlebars—an option intended to help with Seattle’s hills. GeekWire described the Cosmo as throttle-assist, with both pedals and a motor, and noted its lower center of gravity. These are descriptions in the 2021 announcements, not results of an independent performance or accessibility test.

Veo CEO Candice Xie called it the company’s “most accessible e-bike yet” and said it would offer a car-free option for neighborhood trips or the last leg from transit. That was Veo’s description of its product and intended use, rather than a guarantee that every rider or trip would be accommodated.
How unlocking and fares were reported
GeekWire said the reported rental flow used Veo’s app: riders scanned a bike’s QR code to unlock it. The article listed a $1 unlock fee and a rate of $0.29 per minute. It also reported a launch promotion, code RIDESEA, that waived the unlock fee and added $5 in credit. These were Seattle launch terms reported in December 2021; they should not be treated as current Veo fares or as evidence that the service remains available.

Where bike share fits—and how to park accessibly
SDOT presented shared bikes as an option for quick errands, trips to nearby bus or light-rail stops, and longer journeys. At the time of Veo’s approval, the city said Lime also offered electric-assist bikes. Veo’s arrival was therefore described as an expansion of the local bike-share program, not as the start of bike share in Seattle.

- Leave at least six feet clear for pedestrians.
- Keep bikes away from corners and curb ramps.
- Park upright at the outer edge of the sidewalk or at a bike rack.
What is known about Veo’s later status
The 2021 announcements establish Veo’s approval and its proposed rollout, but the available sources do not verify that it deployed the full 1,500-bike fleet or document an operating end date. SDOT’s May 14, 2026 safety update says the city partners with Lime for its current shared micromobility program. That current partnership does not, by itself, establish when Veo’s Seattle service ended or how many bikes it operated.
SDOT reported that the combined bike- and scooter-share program reached 10.5 million trips in 2025. That is a citywide figure for both vehicle types and all program providers, not a Veo statistic. The same update says the city distributed more than 15,000 helmets through its partnership since 2022, including 5,000 in 2025, and planned more than 200 downtown parking corrals by summer 2026.
