What happened to Pure Watercraft’s Seattle boat club?
Pure Watercraft, founded in 2011 to develop electric propulsion for motorboats, later entered receivership in King County. During the company’s unwinding, Danylo Kurgan—a former Pure Watercraft financial analyst who had been running day-to-day operations of its boat club—and technology executive and startup investor Mrugesh Desai, who had belonged to the club, formed Aurelia Boat Club.
GeekWire reported that the founders acquired the club assets through negotiations with Turnford Consulting, the court-appointed receiver. Court documents, as described in the report, put the purchase price at $67,000. The founders said they committed a further $200,000 to member events, marketing and other support. Those are figures from the launch period, not current financial disclosures.

The reported package was meant to support operation of a club, rather than restart Pure Watercraft as a manufacturer. The founders said it included:

Aurelia did not say it would manufacture using Pure’s technology. Other Pure Watercraft assets went elsewhere: GeekWire reported that some were sold to Raider Outboards, a Florida family-owned company that designs and produces lightweight engines for military use and planned a production line for electric outboards. That is a separate transaction from Aurelia’s club-asset acquisition.
What were Aurelia’s launch-era fees?
In GeekWire’s May 29, 2025 coverage, Aurelia’s initiation fee was listed at $979 after a 50% discount available until June 1, 2025. Monthly dues were $279, with an additional $25 per outing. These are historical launch terms; the report does not establish what the club charges now.

Aurelia’s website comparison, cited by GeekWire, projected savings of more than $8,000 over three years versus a traditional gas-powered boat club. That was the company’s own comparison, not an independent cost study. A meaningful comparison also depends on the other club’s fees, boat selection and booking access, marina and charging arrangements, and which costs or responsibilities membership covers.
How was the club supposed to work?
The founders described a digitally managed, self-serve experience for booking, checking in and unlocking vessels. At launch, they said they were building charging infrastructure with two marinas—one in Ballard and one on Lake Union. GeekWire did not name the marinas.

Smart mapping, marine-wildlife spotting and personalized routing were described as possible future features, not confirmed services. The founders also named Flux Marine and Arc as potential future fleet suppliers; the launch report does not establish that either supplied boats to Aurelia.
What did Aurelia say about its growth?
GeekWire reported that Aurelia had more than doubled its membership in its first month, a company-reported launch-period result rather than a current membership count. The founders said their first-year focus was organic growth in the Seattle area. They also discussed eventually acquiring smaller private boat clubs and pursuing national expansion; these were ambitions, not evidence that acquisitions or expansion occurred.

Desai described a broader goal: “We have a long-term vision about making this more than just another boat club.” Kurgan called affordability the club’s “core function.” He also said of Pure Watercraft, “It’s an amazing product. We hope to build on the legacy of some of the electrification that they built on, just in the most positive way.” These were comments made during the May 2025 launch coverage, not confirmation of later results.

GeekWire reported that Pure Watercraft had raised $37 million. In November 2021, General Motors acquired a 25% stake in a deal costing GM $150 million in cash and payment-in-kind consideration and valuing Pure at $600 million at the time. Those figures describe a historical investment, not Aurelia’s value or the price of the club assets.

What is known about Aurelia now?
The May 2025 launch report documents Aurelia’s formation, asset acquisition, launch-era offer and stated plans. It does not verify whether Aurelia is operating as of October 8, 2026, or establish current membership, fees, fleet, marina locations, deployed features or expansion. Anyone considering joining should confirm those details directly with the club before relying on the launch terms or plans.
