Vector’s March 26, 2019 announcement described vFlash Remote as a way for an operator to reprogram a vehicle ECU over the Internet through a vehicle-side access point. The release named two access-point options: a VN8810 diagnostic device with the access point integrated, or a Windows PC running Vector’s vFlash Access Point software. Vector said the ECU flashing process would begin only after the flash data had transferred completely and passed a plausibility check.
How does vFlash Remote connect to a vehicle?
In Vector’s March 26, 2019 product announcement, the remote operator runs vFlash Remote and connects over the Internet to a vFlash Access Point at the vehicle. The access point provides the vehicle-side endpoint for the remote workflow; the release described two ways to provide it.
- VN8810: Vector described this diagnostic device as having an integrated vFlash Access Point.
- Windows PC: A PC with a network interface can host the access point software, which the 2019 release said could be downloaded from Vector’s website at that time.
The announcement does not compare the alternatives’ performance, cost, or security. Their documented difference is deployment: the VN8810 integrates the access point, while the PC route requires installing its software and connecting the PC to a network.
What hardware and flash project does the vehicle need?
The described setup needs a remote computer running vFlash Remote, an Internet connection, and one of the vehicle-side access-point arrangements. The vehicle must also be reachable through the applicable diagnostic connection, but the announcement does not specify the complete vehicle, ECU, network, or power prerequisites for a particular flashing job.

Vector said customers could reuse flash packs created with vFlash for remote applications. That provides continuity with local workflows, but it does not mean any arbitrary flash pack is appropriate for any ECU. The correct package and compatibility must be established for the target vehicle and ECU.
When does ECU reprogramming begin?
Vector described the transfer and programming stages as separate. Flash data first transfers to the access point; ECU reprogramming does not start until the full transfer is complete and the data passes a plausibility check. This sequence is intended to prevent ECU programming from beginning with an incomplete or implausible transfer, according to the vendor’s announcement.

Vector also stated that the connection between vFlash Remote and the vFlash Access Point is always encrypted. That is a claim in the 2019 release, not an independent security assessment or a guarantee against every operational failure. It applies to that remote connection; it should not be conflated with other security features described for the wider vFlash family.
What feedback does the operator receive?
The announcement describes continuous progress information during flashing, qualified status feedback when the process finishes, and optional report generation for documentation. It does not publish measured success rates, downtime reductions, or safety outcomes.

Where did Vector say remote flashing could help?
Vector identified vehicle test drives and offshore production plants as settings that could benefit from remote access. These are vendor-identified use cases, not quantified evidence of savings or improved reliability.

Vector’s current vFlash product-family overview describes support across CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, LIN, and Ethernet, including DoIP and SoAd. It distinguishes vFlash Standard and vFlash Station, with Desktop and Test Bench editions, and describes GUI and automation workflows. The same family overview discusses compressed or encrypted flash data, OEM or supplier Security Manager authentication add-ons, flash reports and Custom Actions, and TLS for DoIP communication. Those descriptions are separate from the 2019 statement about encryption between vFlash Remote and its Access Point. Vector’s launch announcement also reported more than 130 templates for over 70 vehicle manufacturers; that is a historical 2019 figure, not a current catalog count.
For a present-day deployment, confirm directly with Vector whether vFlash Remote is currently sold and supported, which software and hardware versions it requires, applicable licensing or service restrictions, and whether the VN8810 remains a supported endpoint. The 2019 announcement does not establish those current commercial and compatibility details.
