The SEAT Ibiza has the most practical interior of these three on the available evidence. In Auto Express’s 2026 UK comparison, the tested Ibiza provided more measured rear knee room, headroom and elbow room than the tested Vauxhall Corsa, while its 355-litre boot was larger than the Corsa’s 309-litre petrol boot. The current Suzuki Swift is the smallest-load option with 265 litres behind the rear seats, and independent review coverage describes its rear accommodation as restrictive for taller adults.
That verdict needs a version warning. The measured comparison used a SEAT Ibiza 1.0 TSI DSG FR and a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Turbo Yes; the Swift was not tested under the same protocol. Trim, powertrain and boot-measurement methods can change the result, so use the figures as a guide and test your own passengers, luggage and child seats in the exact cars you are considering.

Quick answer: which interior is most practical?
For carrying people and luggage together, the Ibiza is the strongest choice. It led the directly measured comparison in every quoted rear-seat dimension and had the largest seats-up boot of the petrol cars assessed. The Corsa is a credible second for everyday use, but its usable space depends heavily on whether you choose the petrol, hybrid or electric version. The Swift is easiest to place in a tight urban space because of its compact footprint, yet it gives away luggage volume and rear passenger room.

The Ibiza’s lead is not just a brochure number. Against the tested Corsa, it had 40–45 mm more rear knee room depending on seat position, 20 mm more rear headroom and 70 mm more rear elbow room. Its 355-litre boot is 46 litres larger than the Corsa petrol’s measured 309 litres and 90 litres larger than the Swift’s stated 265 litres. Those differences are useful when a car regularly carries two adults in the back, a pushchair or several soft bags.

How reliable is this comparison?
The rear-seat and boot measurements come from Auto Express’s 2026 comparison of a specific Ibiza 1.0 TSI DSG FR and Corsa 1.2 Turbo Yes. They are publication measurements of those test cars, not universal dimensions for every version sold in the UK. The Swift has no equivalent set of knee, headroom and elbow-room readings in that test, so it would be misleading to present a single like-for-like ranking for all three cars.
Official specifications also vary by version. The UK MY26 Corsa data sheet covers petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains and multiple trims. Vauxhall’s separate 2026 GSE press information gives that electric model a 267-litre seats-up boot and 1,081 litres with the rear seats folded to the roof, compared with 309 litres for the petrol Corsa measured by Auto Express. A Corsa buyer therefore needs the exact powertrain and trim before treating any boot figure as definitive.
The Ibiza specification used here is the XCELLENCE trim page. It lists a 355-litre boot, split-folding 60/40 rear seats, front-seat-back pockets, height-adjustable front seats and rear headrests. Those features should not automatically be assumed on every current retail trim. Suzuki’s figures are from its current UK Swift page, accessed 13 October 2026, while Carbuyer reports the same 265- and 589-litre capacities and comments on limited rear room for taller adults.
Rear passenger space: where the Ibiza gains ground
Knee room
Auto Express measured 565–825 mm of rear knee room in the Ibiza and 525–780 mm in the Corsa. The ranges reflect the position of the front seats during measurement. Even at their respective minimum and maximum readings, the Ibiza offers a more accommodating envelope: 40 mm more at the lower end and 45 mm more at the upper end.
In practical terms, that gives rear passengers more tolerance when a tall driver or front passenger slides a seat back. It does not guarantee that every adult will be comfortable, because posture, seat cushioning and the shape of the front seatbacks also matter. Use the numbers to identify the likely advantage, then sit behind the tallest person who will regularly drive the car.
Headroom
The Ibiza recorded 930 mm of rear headroom against 910 mm for the Corsa in the same test. A 20 mm difference is modest on paper, but it can decide whether a taller passenger’s hair or head brushes the roof, especially when the car has a fixed seating position or a passenger sits upright.

No equivalent Swift headroom measurement is available in this comparison. Carbuyer’s assessment that the current Swift is not especially generous for taller adults is therefore useful context, but it is an editorial judgment rather than a directly comparable millimetre reading.

Rear elbow room was 1,415 mm in the Ibiza and 1,345 mm in the Corsa, a 70 mm advantage for the SEAT. This is the largest quoted rear-seat difference and affects how easily two adults can sit side by side without their shoulders and arms competing for the same space. It is also relevant when a child seat occupies one side of the bench and an adult uses the adjacent position.
What the measurements cannot tell you
They do not establish whether three people can sit comfortably across any rear bench, how easily a particular child seat fits, or how much legroom remains when a rear-facing infant seat is installed. The front-seat position used by a magazine tester may differ from yours. Bring your own child seats to a dealer, install them as you would at home and check that the front seats still have a safe, comfortable driving position.
Boot space and loading practicality
Seats-up capacity
The Ibiza’s measured 355 litres is the largest seats-up figure in this comparison. The petrol Corsa tested by Auto Express held 309 litres, while Suzuki lists 265 litres for the current Swift. That puts the Ibiza 46 litres ahead of the Corsa and 90 litres ahead of the Swift on the quoted measurements.
Those differences are most noticeable when the rear bench must remain upright. A 355-litre compartment offers more reserve for a weekly shop, several weekend bags or a folded stroller before you need to use the rear seats. The Swift’s 265 litres can still suit one or two occupants who pack lightly, but it leaves less flexibility once luggage becomes bulky.

Boot dimensions and opening
Auto Express also measured the Ibiza’s boot at 725 mm long, 1,015 mm wide and 720 mm to the loading lip. The Corsa measured 653 mm long, 1,015 mm wide and 715 mm at the lip. Both cars therefore shared the quoted internal width, while the Ibiza provided 72 mm more length. The Corsa’s lower 5 mm lip measurement does not offset that shorter floor.

The measured boot opening was 1,005 mm wide and 690 mm high for the Ibiza, compared with 900 mm wide and 743 mm high for the Corsa. The Corsa opening was taller but 105 mm narrower. That distinction matters for a wide box, pram or pet crate: measure the object at its widest and compare it with the opening, not only with the advertised volume.
These are publication measurements for the named test cars. They should not be treated as permanent manufacturer dimensions for every trim, wheel combination or powertrain.
Folded seats
Suzuki quotes 589 litres with the Swift’s rear seats folded, compared with 265 litres seats up. Vauxhall’s GSE press information quotes 1,081 litres folded to the roof and 267 litres with the rear seats up under the luggage-compartment cover. The GSE figures apply to that electric variant, not automatically to petrol or hybrid Corsas.

No folded-seat capacity is established here for the Ibiza, so it should be recorded as “not established” rather than guessed. Folded-seat capacities are not always measured to the same height: one source may measure to a parcel shelf, another to the roof. Do not compare 589 litres and 1,081 litres as if they were produced by an identical method. Ask the seller how the volume was measured and inspect the floor shape, step and seat-fold mechanism.
SEAT Ibiza: best all-round use of its cabin
The Ibiza combines the strongest measured rear accommodation with the largest seats-up boot in the evidence reviewed. The cited XCELLENCE specification includes a 60/40 split-folding rear bench, which lets you carry a longer item while retaining one rear seating position. Front-seat-back pockets provide additional storage for rear passengers, and height-adjustable front seats and rear headrests help with seating adjustment.
Do not assume that every Ibiza sold today has exactly that equipment: trim names and standard features can change. Confirm the current retail specification, then check whether the rear bench folds flush enough for the loads you carry. A split fold is useful only if the remaining seat and floor arrangement suit your normal passenger-and-cargo combinations.

Vauxhall Corsa: competitive, but version-sensitive
The petrol Corsa in the Auto Express test was behind the Ibiza in all three measured rear dimensions and in seats-up boot volume, yet its 309 litres remain more than the Swift’s 265 litres. Its boot opening was narrower but taller than the Ibiza’s, a difference that may favour tall, narrow items while making wide boxes harder to load.

Powertrain choice changes the luggage answer. The official GSE electric information lists 267 litres under the luggage-compartment cover with the seats up and 1,081 litres folded to the roof. That 267-litre figure is 42 litres below the tested petrol Corsa’s 309 litres. Because the MY26 range includes petrol, hybrid and electric versions, compare the exact car’s boot before ordering rather than relying on a generic “Corsa” capacity.
Suzuki Swift: compact outside, tighter inside
Suzuki lists 265 litres with the rear seats in use and 589 litres with them folded for the current UK Swift. The manufacturer describes the cabin as “driver-focused”; that wording does not establish superior rear passenger space. Carbuyer’s review reaches the more relevant practical conclusion: rear accommodation is not especially generous for taller adults.
The Swift’s appeal is its compact format, which can make urban parking and narrow streets easier, but compact exterior dimensions come with a luggage trade-off in this comparison. It is the least convincing choice when the same trips regularly involve rear adults and a full boot. It becomes more logical when most journeys have one or two occupants and the priority is a smaller car rather than maximum carrying capacity.
Standard convenience equipment on Suzuki’s current UK page includes wireless smartphone connectivity, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Those features improve day-to-day convenience, but they do not increase the 265-litre seats-up luggage space or substitute for rear-seat room.
Which car suits each type of use?
Family errands and child seats
Start with the Ibiza because it has the best measured rear-seat clearance and the largest seats-up boot. Nevertheless, install your own rear-facing and forward-facing seats in all contenders. Check front-seat travel, buckle access, door clearance and whether the child seat leaves enough room for an adult beside it. A larger quoted boot does not prove that a particular stroller will pass through the opening.

Two tall adults in the back
The Ibiza is the evidence-based first choice: it measured better for knee, head and elbow room than the Corsa. Treat the Swift as a fit-to-test option rather than assuming its compact body will accommodate tall passengers comfortably; the independent review warning is specifically relevant here.
Frequent luggage with the rear bench upright
Choose the Ibiza’s 355 litres if maximum seats-up volume is the deciding factor. The petrol Corsa’s 309 litres is workable but smaller, and the Swift’s 265 litres leaves the least reserve. Verify the version, because the electric GSE Corsa is listed at 267 litres under its cover.
Occasional bulky loads
Compare folded-seat layouts in person. Suzuki’s 589-litre figure and the GSE Corsa’s 1,081 litres to the roof are not measured on a guaranteed common basis, and no folded Ibiza figure is established here. Look for a level floor, the size of the step created when seats fold and whether the tailgate opening accepts your largest object.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMostly urban, lightly loaded driving
The Swift may make sense if its compact footprint is more valuable to you than rear space and luggage capacity. That is a priority decision, not evidence that it has the most practical interior. Take a test drive on your normal streets and still perform the seat and boot checks before purchase.
A practical inspection checklist before you buy
- Identify the exact car. Record model year, trim, engine or motor and whether it is petrol, hybrid or electric. The Corsa’s quoted capacities demonstrate why this step matters.
- Measure the people who will use the rear seats. Put the tallest regular passenger behind the tallest regular driver. Check knee clearance, head clearance, shoulder space and ease of entry.
- Bring child seats. Fit every seat in its intended position, route the belt or ISOFIX connection as instructed and confirm that the front seats remain comfortable.
- Bring a representative load. Use a folded stroller, cabin case or storage box that matches your real life. Check the tailgate opening, loading lip, floor width and wheel-arch intrusion.
- Test the seats-up arrangement first. Most journeys use the rear bench, so do not let a large folded-seat number hide a small everyday boot.
- Fold and restore the rear bench. Confirm the 60/40 split, the resulting floor step and whether headrests must be removed. Test that the tailgate closes without contacting the load.
- Check storage and visibility. Look at front-seat-back pockets, door bins, camera view and parking sensors as fitted to that trim. Convenience equipment varies by version.
- Write down the seller’s measurement basis. Ask whether boot volume is measured to a cover, parcel shelf or roof. This prevents a misleading comparison between figures produced under different methods.
Common mistakes when comparing these interiors
- Mixing versions: treating the petrol Corsa’s 309 litres and the electric GSE’s 267 litres as one universal Corsa specification.
- Comparing unmatched tests: presenting the Ibiza and Corsa’s Auto Express measurements as if the Swift had been measured with the same seats, tools and protocol.
- Using volume alone: ignoring opening width, floor length, loading lip and the shape of the folded-seat floor.
- Assuming trim equipment: carrying XCELLENCE Ibiza features or Suzuki convenience items across every trim without checking the current retail specification.
- Skipping a physical fit test: inferring child-seat or tall-adult comfort from a brochure dimension.
- Reading folded capacity too broadly: treating Suzuki’s 589 litres and the GSE’s 1,081 litres to the roof as directly comparable when the measuring heights differ.
Final verdict
Choose the SEAT Ibiza when interior practicality means the best combination of rear passenger room and seats-up luggage capacity. Choose the Vauxhall Corsa if its design, price or powertrain suits you, but verify the exact version because boot volume changes. Choose the Suzuki Swift when a compact car and light-load use matter more than carrying tall rear passengers or maximum luggage. Whichever model wins on paper, repeat the comparison with your own people, child seats and cargo before signing an order.
