The strongest evidence-backed choices
2020 Subaru BRZ: the lower-priced compact coupe option

That makes it the clearest candidate when your actual ceiling is below the Camry averages for newer model years, although the source does not provide a single national average price for the 2020 BRZ in the material available here. iSeeCars says its best-used-car rankings analyze data from more than 12 million cars, combining reliability and five-year value-retention analysis with NHTSA safety ratings. Its individual budget pages report selected model years and average used prices. That makes the figures useful for screening candidates, but they are not universal value judgments or guaranteed selling prices.
Car and Driver’s under-$30,000 list
Car and Driver’s list uses marketplace examples priced below $30,000 with fewer than 40,000 miles. It ranks those examples using roughly 200 data points covering acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, value and driving enjoyment. This is a different editorial method from the iSeeCars market-value page: it is useful for finding relatively fresh, low-mileage examples, but it is not a controlled Camry-versus-sports-car comparison.
Edmunds’ model descriptions and buying advice

A Miata cannot replace a sedan for regular passengers. A BRZ’s rear seats are mainly cargo space. A Camaro or Mustang coupe may fit your driving priorities but not your loading or access needs. Decide how many people and how much cargo you actually carry each week.

Using a Mustang or other bargain listing as proof of a market trend
One unusually cheap advertisement may reflect mileage, title history, damage, a salvage designation, unusual equipment or a motivated seller. Verify why it is priced below comparable cars before treating it as evidence.
A practical decision framework
If your ceiling is around $20,000
Start with older examples and local inventory rather than assuming a newer BRZ or Miata will qualify. The broad Camry average is already near this level, and the supplied sports-car averages mostly begin above it. Condition and history should outrank a badge.

Is a used Miata cheaper than a used Camry?
