The named Honda 0 α (Alpha) electric SUV is scheduled to go on sale globally, mainly in Japan and India, starting in 2027, but Honda has not confirmed that it is the same vehicle. For buyers looking at hybrids now, the City e:HEV and ZR-V e:HEV are already on sale in India.
Which Honda EV is coming to India?
The most relevant named future Honda EV for India is the Honda 0 α, an electric SUV prototype unveiled by Honda in October 2025. Honda describes it as a “gateway model” for its 0 Series and says its production model is scheduled to go on sale globally, mainly in Japan and India, starting in 2027. Honda’s announcement of the 0 α outlines a “Thin, Light, and Wise” design approach, including a low-height cabin while retaining ground clearance and integrated front-end elements such as the headlights, charging lid and illuminated emblem.
Those are prototype and design descriptions, not a final India specification sheet. Honda has not published the 0 α’s India launch date, retail name, price, range, battery capacity, charging rate or production trim in the cited announcement.
When will Honda launch its first electric car in India?
On April 1, 2026, Honda Cars India said it planned to launch its first BEV “in the second half.” The statement, from Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, did not name the vehicle or clarify whether “second half” means the second half of the calendar year or the fiscal year. It is a dated plan, not a confirmed retail date. Read Honda Cars India’s announcement.

Honda has not explicitly said that the 0 α is the BEV referenced in that April statement. The 0 α is the clearest named future EV relevant to India, but treating the two announcements as confirmation of one model would go beyond what Honda has said.
Which Honda hybrid cars are available in India?
Honda’s current India-market hybrids are the City e:HEV sedan and ZR-V e:HEV SUV. Both are on sale, so they are current alternatives rather than upcoming launches.

What else has Honda planned for India?
Honda’s July 2026 India release said execution had begun on initiatives related to an India-focused strategic vehicle planned for launch in 2028. The release did not identify its powertrain or model.
In a May 2026 global business briefing, Honda said it planned to begin introducing India-focused strategic models in 2028 in two categories: under 4 metres and mid-size. It did not say whether either category would use hybrid or electric power. The same briefing outlined a global next-generation hybrid programme beginning in 2027, with 15 models planned by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2030, primarily in North America. Those global plans are not confirmation of additional India-market hybrids. Honda’s 2026 business briefing.
