The Unplug Outdoor Trailster is a pickup cap with a fold-out hardtop tent built into its roof. Closed, it sits at about cab height and covers the truck bed; at camp, the roof and floor open to create an elevated sleeping area above cargo. A July 2025 report lists a historical US$5,500–$6,500 price range, but current Trailster availability and pricing are unconfirmed.
What the Trailster is—and how it works
The Trailster combines a covered pickup bed with a separate sleeping platform. Its aluminum cap has an integrated tent: struts assist the roof as it opens, while the floor folds outward to form the elevated sleeping area. A telescoping ladder provides access. This layout can leave cargo in the bed while people sleep above it, rather than using the bed floor as the sleeping surface.
New Atlas described the design and specifications in an article by C.C. Weiss dated July 8, 2025. The figures below are reported product details, not independent test results.

Will it fit your pickup?
The 2025 coverage describes Trailster versions for mid-size and full-size pickup beds and gives a broad bed-length range of 5 to 8 feet. That is not enough to confirm fit on a particular truck. Bed length alone does not establish compatibility: verify the truck’s year, make, model, cab configuration, and bed length with the manufacturer or seller before ordering.
Ask for confirmation of the exact Trailster configuration and mounting requirements, plus the closed height and total installed weight for that configuration. The reported 215-pound starting weight applies only to the 5-foot-bed model in the cited article; account for the cap, occupants, gear, and other cargo against your truck’s payload limits.

What you gain—and what the cap design costs
Separate sleeping space
The elevated tent keeps the sleeping surface separate from the cargo area, so gear can remain in the bed while the tent is in use. The low-profile cap form also means the tent is integrated rather than carried as a separate rooftop tent mounted on a fixed cap.
Less usable bed space and limited access
The tent floor takes up headroom and cargo volume inside the bed. New Atlas also notes that the Trailster has no side hatch doors, making it less convenient to reach gear stored toward the cab. Consider what you regularly carry and whether you need access to it without opening the rear hatch.

Rack and climate details to verify
The article reports roof T-track rails and side L-tracks, but does not provide rail dimensions, load limits, or an approved crossbar list. Do not assume a rack or accessory will fit—or that the rails can carry a particular load—without Trailster-specific confirmation. The reported climate port supports blown-air heating or air conditioning, but the cited coverage does not establish included equipment or a particular climate system.
