TWR’s 2024 global debut release specifies 660 bhp and 730 Nm; earlier prototype reports described the car as producing more than 650 bhp.
What is the TWR Supercat?
The Supercat is the first product from the modern TWR, built on the foundations of the classic Jaguar XJS. TWR describes it as a new interpretation of the car, combining the XJS base with modern materials and production methods. Its design draws on racing Jaguars including the XJR-9, XJR-15 and XJ220. TWR’s debut announcement and global debut release identify the XJS as its foundation.
That makes “Jaguar XJS restomod” useful shorthand, but the Supercat is a TWR-built, individually commissioned car rather than a production model sold by Jaguar.
How much power does the Supercat make?
TWR’s 2024 global debut specification gives the in-house supercharged V12 an output of 660 bhp and 730 Nm, sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The engine is therefore central to the car’s character: this is a manual, supercharged XJS-based grand tourer, not simply a carbon-bodied styling exercise.

The earlier 650-plus figures refer to prototype-stage reporting, not a conflicting production specification. In a November 2024 first look, Top Gear attributed to TWR co-founder and lead engineer Fergus Walkinshaw a figure of more than 650 bhp, torque above 700 Nm and a 7,750-rpm redline. A December 2024 report described the original 5.3-litre V12 bored out to 5.6 litres and reported more than 650 bhp and 516 lb-ft. Top Gear’s prototype coverage also detailed a dry sump, new cylinder head and valve train, billet cams, supercharger and charge cooling.
The cleanest headline figure for the later global debut is 660 bhp. The 650-plus descriptions are useful for understanding how the prototype was presented during development; the figures should be read with their reporting stage and attribution in view.

What does “full carbon body” mean?
TWR says every exterior panel was resculpted in carbon fibre, with tens of thousands of hours spent developing the body. The carbon panels contribute to the manufacturer’s claimed weight reduction. This describes the exterior panels; it does not mean that every structural component is carbon fibre. TWR separately specifies an integrated tubular-steel framework to reinforce the structure for the increased power.
The Supercat retains the XJS as its basis while reworking its body and structure for a much more powerful modern car. Motor Sport Magazine’s December 2024 explainer also describes chassis reinforcement, upgraded suspension and brakes, a carbon-fibre body and six-speed manual transmission.

How much lighter is it than an original XJS?
TWR lists the Supercat at 1,605 kg and the original XJS at 1,770 kg, describing the difference as a 9.3% weight reduction. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independent comparative test results. TWR attributes the reduction in part to the carbon exterior.
| Specification | TWR Supercat | Original XJS comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Published weight | 1,605 kg | 1,770 kg |
| Weight difference | 9.3% lower, according to TWR | Reference figure used by TWR |
How many will be built?
TWR says production is limited to 88 examples and that each car is individually commissioned. The announced production limit does not establish how many build slots remain, what a car currently costs or when a new commission could be delivered. Those details require confirmation directly from TWR.

What do the prototype reviews establish?
Top Gear’s November 2024 first look includes driving impressions of a prototype and describes it as raw, with further refinement expected before production. Those comments apply to the prototype driven at that time, not necessarily to customer-delivery cars. They offer a snapshot of development, rather than a definitive verdict on the final commissioned Supercat.
