Jaguar’s new Type 01 is a four-door, four-seat electric GT—not a two-door coupe. Its low roofline, long bonnet and fastback silhouette give it the look of a coupe, while its body format is closer to a fastback saloon. Jaguar unveiled it in New York on October 6, 2026; orders are expected to open in early 2027.
Is the Jaguar Type 01 a sedan or a coupe?
It is a four-door GT with seating for four. Jaguar’s formal description is “luxury four-door GT”; independent design coverage has also described it as a fastback electric saloon. Calling it a “sedan pretending to be a coupe” captures the contrast in its styling, but it is not Jaguar’s official body-style label—and the car is not a two-door coupe.
The distinction is between its practical body format and its proportions. Four doors and four seats point to a saloon or four-door GT, while the low roof, long bonnet and sleek rear profile borrow visual cues associated with coupes.
Why does the Type 01 look like a coupe?

Jaguar emphasizes the car’s low roofline, long bonnet and sleek silhouette. Wallpaper* independently describes it as a fastback saloon and reports dimensions of 5,235 mm long and 1,403 mm high. Those measurements are Wallpaper*’s reported figures, not confirmed final customer specifications in Jaguar’s launch material.

Low seating and a four-person cabin
Jaguar says the cabin has low seating and room for four, arranged around a brass-inspired centre spine. The product page also lists a 24-inch OLED screen, a secondary 7-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a ClearSight rear-view display. Jaguar cautions that final customer models and features may vary before launch.
What is the Jaguar Type 01?
Type 01 is the first production Jaguar built on the company’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Jaguar says it is designed, developed and built in the UK. The company traces the body design’s lineage to the E-type and XJS, and says engineers drove historic models including the XK120, E-type, XJ Coupé V12, XJS and XJ Series I while shaping the new GT’s intended character.

The figures describe Jaguar’s announced vehicle, not independently verified performance in customer use. The charging claim is specifically tied to a 350 kW charger; it should not be read as a promise that every charger or charging session will add range at that rate.
When can you order the Jaguar Type 01?
As of October 8, 2026, the Type 01 is not available to order. Jaguar says orders are expected to open in early 2027 and first client deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027. Its product page says final customer models and features are not yet available for sale and may change before launch.

What does the Type 01’s design say about its intended character?
Jaguar presents the car as a grand tourer balancing performance with comfort, rather than defining it only by acceleration or styling. Vehicle Engineering Director Matt Becker said, “At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and comfort – in perfect harmony and our new luxury GT is no different.” That is Jaguar’s stated design intent, not an independent assessment of the finished car.
The clearest answer to the sedan-or-coupe question is therefore both visual and practical: Type 01 is a four-door, four-seat electric GT with fastback, coupe-like proportions. Whether its final cabin, range and charging performance deliver on Jaguar’s promises will be clearer when customer specifications and cars are available.
