Choose the TVS Radeon Digi Disc if you specifically want a front disc and are comfortable paying the current city-specific premium. Choose a drum variant when keeping the purchase price down matters more. Both versions retain a 110 mm rear drum and TVS Synchronized Braking Technology (SBT), and no Radeon-specific stopping-distance advantage is published for either version. A test ride and a local dealer quote should decide the final purchase.

The two listed Digi prices imply a ₹3,700 ex-showroom difference on that page. It is not an on-road premium: registration, insurance, taxes, dealer charges, offers and local availability can change the amount in your city. Autocar marks the model page as updated 6 October 2026; use it as a reference and request a written, current quote before deciding.
TVS’s technical specification page is the authority for the brake dimensions and kerb weights. The Autocar India Radeon model page supplies the variant names and the accessed ex-showroom figures.

What changes when you choose the front disc?
Front hardware
A drum brake puts its friction surfaces inside a closed drum. A disc brake clamps friction material against an exposed rotor. Those are different mechanisms, but TVS and Autocar do not include a controlled back-to-back test of stopping distance, wet braking, heat fade, pad life or maintenance cost. You should therefore treat the disc as a hardware preference, not as a published guarantee of a shorter stop.
TVS says the front brake supplies the majority of stopping power and describes the rear drum as adequate for city-speed stops. That is the manufacturer’s explanation, not an independent Radeon test. In ordinary riding, your result still depends on tyre condition, road grip, rider input, load, speed and brake adjustment.
The rear brake does not change
Buying the Digi Disc does not give you a rear disc. Both versions use the same-size rear drum and SBT equipment. The meaningful hardware decision is therefore whether you want the disc at the front while accepting the same rear-brake arrangement.

TVS lists the disc version at 115 kg and the drum version at 113 kg. That documented difference should not be turned into a performance promise. TVS’s published specifications do not show that it produces a perceptible acceleration, handling or braking change, so use it as a specification detail rather than a deciding advantage.

How TVS Synchronized Braking Technology works
SBT is listed on both brake configurations. TVS explains the operating principle in its Radeon brakes, tyres and suspension article: “When the rider applies the brake, the Synchronized Braking Technology (SBT) partially distributes braking force at the front wheel.”
In practical terms, the system is intended to add some front-braking contribution when the rider operates the rear brake. It does not make the rear drum a disc, and it does not remove the need to use both controls smoothly. Do not interpret the name as evidence that the two variants stop identically or that one is automatically safer; neither TVS nor Autocar supplies a comparative measurement.
During a test ride, apply the brakes progressively in a straight line, then repeat at a lower speed with a passenger or the load you normally carry. Look for predictable lever and pedal response, a firm feel and the absence of scraping, pulsing or a pull to one side. A dealer should correct an adjustment or component issue before you judge the design.
Is the Radeon disc brake worth the extra price?
The answer depends on what you value, because TVS and Autocar do not quantify a stopping-distance or ownership-cost advantage. Autocar India lists the Digi Disc above the Digi Drum before on-road charges. If that premium fits your budget, the disc gives you the front-brake format you prefer. If the premium would force you to compromise on insurance, protective equipment or routine servicing, the drum version is the more sensible purchase.

Choose the Digi Disc when these conditions fit
- You want a front disc as a matter of riding preference and are willing to pay the local, current difference.
- Your regular routes include repeated stops, faster arterial traffic or descents where you prefer the feel of a front disc, while recognising that no Radeon-specific performance measurement is published in the cited material.
- You have ridden both versions and prefer the disc bike’s control feel with your normal load.
- The dealer can confirm that the exact model year, equipment and warranty terms match the specification you are paying for.
Choose a drum variant when these conditions fit
- Your main priority is the lowest purchase price and the quoted premium is difficult to justify.
- Your riding is mostly moderate-speed urban use and the drum bike gives you a smooth, confidence-inspiring response on a test ride.
- You would rather keep money available for a helmet, tyres, insurance excess or scheduled maintenance than pay for the front-disc hardware.
- You are comparing an in-stock drum variant with a disc variant that has an uncertain delivery date or an unconfirmed local price.
When neither label is enough
If you regularly carry heavy loads, ride in steep terrain, or spend time in fast traffic, do not choose from the brochure alone. Ask the dealer for a demonstration on a safe, legal route and assess both bikes under comparable conditions. The same rider, tyre pressures, load and road surface matter more than a general assumption that every disc will outperform every drum in every situation.
What the available review evidence actually says
Autocar India lists “Drum brakes could be stronger” among the things its reviewers do not like about the Radeon. That is a qualitative editorial judgement. It is not a measured comparison against the Digi Disc, and it does not specify a stopping distance, speed, road surface, rider, temperature or load.
TVS and Autocar publish no Radeon comparison for wet braking, heat fade, pad life or maintenance cost, so claims such as “the disc stops in fewer metres,” “the drum fades sooner” or “the disc is cheaper to maintain” would go beyond the evidence. A careful buyer should treat those as questions to investigate during a ride and service discussion, not as established specifications.

How to compare the two bikes on a test ride
Book rides as close together as possible. Ask the dealer to identify the exact variant, model year and tyre specification, and record the odometer reading and any warning lights before you leave. Use the same route and avoid comparing one bike on a dry road with the other on loose or wet pavement.

- Check the static controls. Sit in your normal position and confirm that the front brake lever and rear pedal are easy to reach without twisting your wrist or ankle. Ask whether the controls have been adjusted for the demonstration.
- Make gentle stops first. At walking pace, apply the rear brake, then both brakes progressively. The response should build smoothly rather than arrive as an abrupt grab.
- Repeat at normal city speed. Leave a large safety margin and use the same braking point on each bike. Compare confidence and controllability, not a self-timed stopping distance.
- Check straight-line stability. A correctly functioning motorcycle should not pull left or right under ordinary braking. Stop the ride and report any deviation, vibration or unusual noise.
- Try repeated stops only with permission. If the dealer approves, make several moderate stops and ask whether the feel changes. Do not deliberately overheat the brakes or perform emergency manoeuvres on a public road.
- Inspect after the ride. Ask the salesperson to check for leaks, damaged lines, loose hardware or abnormal heat. A new-bike demonstration unit should not show those symptoms.
- Repeat with your typical load. If you carry a passenger or delivery equipment, repeat the gentle comparison with the permitted load and correct tyre pressures.
The purpose of the ride is to find the control response you can operate consistently. It cannot replace a laboratory test, and it should not be presented as proof that one configuration has a particular stopping distance.
Questions to ask before signing the order
- Which exact variant is this? The model page names All Black, Base, Digi Drum and Digi Disc. Confirm the name printed on the quotation and the vehicle identification documents.
- What is today’s on-road price? Request a line-by-line quote showing ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, handling charges and every discount.
- Is the quoted brake equipment standard? Match the quotation to the current TVS specification page and inspect the delivered motorcycle before registration.
- What is covered by the warranty? Ask how the manufacturer treats normal-wear friction material, adjustment and damage caused by contamination or an accident. Have the written policy explained rather than relying on a verbal promise.
- Which replacement parts fit? TVS’s supplied information does not verify brake-pad part numbers or model-year compatibility. Have a TVS dealer or qualified mechanic confirm the correct component before ordering any pad or shoe.
- Can I test both configurations? If only one is available, ask when the other can be demonstrated or visit another authorised outlet. Avoid paying a premium for a feature you have not been able to operate.
Brake care after purchase
Break-in and bedding
Follow the owner’s manual and dealer instructions for the initial brake bedding period. Use progressive applications and leave extra distance while the friction surfaces settle. Do not attempt to create a performance benchmark during break-in.
Routine checks
At each service, ask for the front and rear brake operation to be inspected, along with tyre pressure and tread. A brake that feels different from the day before deserves attention even if the warning signs are subtle. Keep friction surfaces free of oil, chain lubricant and cleaning products; contamination can alter feel on either design.
Wear and replacement
Drum shoes and disc pads are wear items, but TVS’s published materials do not provide Radeon-specific service intervals, prices or expected life. Replace them according to the manufacturer’s inspection criteria and the condition of the actual parts. Do not assume that a disc setup is universally more expensive or that a drum setup is maintenance-free.

Aftermarket parts
If you need replacement pads for a Digi Disc, confirm the part number, model year and fitment with a TVS dealer or qualified mechanic before buying. The existence of a disc-equipped variant alone does not establish compatibility across every Radeon production year.
A simple decision framework
Use this sequence rather than choosing by badge or internet opinion:
- Set your real budget. Start with the complete on-road quote, not the ex-showroom figure. Keep enough for legally required equipment, insurance and the first scheduled service.
- Confirm local availability. Prices and stock vary by city, and Autocar’s listing is not a guaranteed current quote for your location.
- Ride both front-brake formats. Use the same route, rider and load. Note whether you can modulate each brake comfortably.
- Verify the specification. Check that the motorcycle you will receive has the quoted front brake, the shared rear drum and SBT equipment, and the stated variant name.
- Ask for written after-sales information. Get warranty, inspection and parts-fitment answers from the dealer before paying a booking amount.
- Choose the premium only for a reason you can name. If the reason is simply that “disc is always safer,” TVS and Autocar do not support that blanket conclusion. If the reason is your tested preference for the front-disc feel and the price is acceptable, the Digi Disc is the logical choice.
Bottom line for TVS Radeon buyers
The Digi Disc is a conditional upgrade, not a proven universal safety winner. It changes the front brake to a disc, adds the listed kerb weight shown by TVS and carries the higher quoted ex-showroom price, while retaining the same rear drum and SBT system. The drum variant is a rational choice when budget is decisive and the test ride gives you confidence. Because no controlled Radeon stopping comparison is published in the cited material, make the decision with a current city quote, a like-for-like test ride and a dealer-verified specification.
