Expect roughly 40–45 kmpl from a TVS NTorq 125 in ordinary real-world city use. Autocar India’s current mileage page gives that broad estimate, lists 43.06 kmpl as a user-reported figure, and cites a 48.5 kmpl ARAI-certified figure. BikeWale reports 43 kmpl from owners. Those numbers describe different kinds of evidence, so none is a guaranteed result in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Your result can be lower or higher depending on congestion, acceleration, speed, rider and passenger weight, tyre inflation, fuel, weather, braking, servicing and the scooter’s condition. The most reliable way to know your own NTorq’s economy is to calculate it from distance travelled and litres refilled—not from the fuel-gauge bars.

What mileage should you expect in city traffic?
For a current TVS NTorq 125 used mainly in town, use 40–45 kmpl as a realistic planning range. That is an estimate for mixed urban riding, not a promise that every rider will see those figures on every commute. Light traffic, smooth throttle use and a well-maintained scooter can move the result toward the upper end. Short trips, long idling periods, steep roads, heavy loads and repeated hard acceleration can push it below the range.

How the published numbers differ
| Figure | Source and date | What it represents | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48.5 kmpl | Autocar India, current page in 2026 | ARAI-certified figure listed for the NTORQ 125 | Useful as a certification benchmark, not a guaranteed city result |
| 43.06 kmpl | Autocar India, current page in 2026 | User-reported mileage shown on the page | A reported average, not a controlled test of every variant or commute |
| 40–45 kmpl | Autocar India, current page in 2026 | Broad real-world estimate | The most useful starting range for budgeting city fuel |
| 43 kmpl | BikeWale, page accessed in 2026 | Aggregated owner-reported figure | Cross-checks the low-40s expectation, but conditions vary between owners |
| 52.6 kmpl city; 57.6 kmpl highway | Earlier Autocar India BS6 test; year not stated in the available passage | Older editorial test results | Do not treat these as the current typical owner result |
The 48.5 kmpl ARAI number can therefore be higher than what many people see in daily traffic without indicating a fault. Standard tests cannot reproduce every combination of signals, congestion, idling, gradients, passengers and riding habits found on a real commute.
Why one owner gets 43 kmpl and another gets 28 kmpl
TVS’s owner manual explicitly says that the on-road mileage of the NTORQ 125 depends on road condition, fuel quality, riding speed, brake operation, tyre inflation, maintenance and timely servicing, load and other factors. It also explains that real mileage differs from results obtained under standard conditions at a recognised institute such as ARAI.
Traffic and trip pattern
Stop-start congestion demands repeated acceleration from rest. If traffic barely moves, the engine may run while the scooter covers very little distance, lowering the distance-per-litre result. A series of short trips can also be inefficient because the scooter spends more of each journey accelerating and warming up than cruising steadily. A longer urban route with fewer stops may return a better number even if its average speed is not dramatically higher.

Throttle, speed and braking
Hard launches, high engine speed and late braking waste energy that must be replaced with another acceleration. Smoothly opening the throttle, anticipating gaps and maintaining a steady pace where conditions allow generally reduces fuel use. This does not mean riding slowly in an unsafe way; it means avoiding unnecessary speed changes and aggressive bursts.
Load, weather and road surface
A passenger, luggage or frequent climbs increases the work the engine must do. Headwinds, rain, poor surfaces and standing water can also raise resistance. Two owners can report different mileage while both are measuring correctly simply because their routes and loads are different.
Tyres, brakes and maintenance
Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance. A dragging brake, overdue service or a component that is not operating correctly can have a similar effect. Check the pressure specified for your exact NTorq variant in its owner documentation rather than copying a number from another scooter. A basic tyre-pressure gauge can help you check the pressure consistently, but the gauge itself does not improve mileage.

What owner reports actually tell you
Autocar India lists 43.06 kmpl from users, while BikeWale reports 43 kmpl from owners. Together they place owner-reported NTorq economy in the low 40s, but the available reports do not isolate riders by city, traffic intensity, scooter age, variant, fuel, route or measurement method. They should be read as directional evidence rather than a guaranteed bumper-to-bumper result.

Individual reports show how wide the spread can be. An Autocar user review dated 27 April 2026 says the scooter returned 26–28 kmpl. An older Team-BHP ownership review reports 35–40 kmpl depending on riding style. These are anecdotes from particular vehicles and conditions, potentially from different model years; they are not representative averages and should not replace the broader 40–45 kmpl planning range.
How to measure your NTorq’s real mileage
Use a distance-and-refill calculation over a meaningful period. A single short refill can be distorted by how full the tank was, fuel-pump cut-off and a brief change in traffic. Repeating the same method over several refills gives a more useful personal baseline.

- Fill the tank to a consistent level. At the same pump where practical, stop at the normal automatic cut-off rather than adding an arbitrary extra amount.
- Reset the trip meter or record the odometer reading. Note the date, litres added and the riding conditions if you want to compare routes.
- Ride normally. Do not change your style just to create an unusually high number. Include the traffic, passengers and cargo that represent your ordinary use.
- Refill at the same reference level. Record the exact litres added and the distance shown since the previous fill.
- Calculate distance divided by litres. For example, 180 km divided by 4 litres equals 45 kmpl. This example is a calculation method, not a claim about what every NTorq will achieve.
- Repeat the calculation. Compare several tanks and look for a pattern instead of reacting to one unusually good or bad result.
TVS says the fuel-level display is approximate and is intended only as a reference. The manual specifically discourages using the fuel-gauge bars to calculate mileage. Bars can disappear at different rates and do not tell you precisely how many litres remain, so they cannot substitute for a refill calculation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Understanding the NTorq’s fuel and stop-start hardware
A TVS article published on 25 August 2026 describes the NTorq 125 as having a 5.8-litre tank, electronic fuel injection and an iGO start-stop system. The article says the system switches the engine off while idling and restarts it when needed. That mechanism can reduce fuel burned during some idle periods, but the article does not provide an independently verified city-mileage gain. It is therefore better understood as a feature description, not proof that every rider will save a stated percentage.
Tank capacity also does not equal usable range. Multiplying 5.8 litres by a headline mileage figure assumes the entire capacity is consumed and that the scooter maintains that economy, neither of which is a sensible daily operating rule. Refuel before the tank is nearly empty and use your own measured economy for planning.

Why older test figures can look unusually high
Autocar India records an earlier BS6 test of 52.6 kmpl in the city and 57.6 kmpl on the highway. The retrieved passage does not state the test year, and Autocar cautions that these results should not be read as the current expected real-world average. They may reflect a particular test route, traffic pattern, rider, vehicle condition and test procedure rather than the conditions faced by a typical owner.
The distinction matters because a controlled editorial ride and a daily commute answer different questions. A test can be useful for comparing scooters under one procedure; it cannot guarantee the number an individual will see while carrying a passenger through congested streets.
What to do if your mileage is below expectation
First confirm the measurement. Refill the tank consistently, record litres rather than gauge bars and calculate over more than one tank. If the result remains low, check the ordinary variables before assuming the engine has a serious problem.

- Verify tyre pressures against the specification for your exact variant and check them when the tyres are cold.
- Look for obvious brake drag or a wheel that does not spin freely when inspected safely.
- Review whether the scooter is carrying more load or a passenger more often than before.
- Consider route changes: heavier congestion, more hills, roadworks, rain or longer idling can all reduce economy.
- Use fuel from a reputable station and note whether the drop began after a change in fuel source.
- Confirm that scheduled servicing is up to date and that the scooter has not developed a warning light, rough running or starting problem.
Do not compensate for low mileage by riding in an unsafe manner or by inflating tyres beyond the specified pressure. If the scooter shows a fuel-sensor error or another warning, TVS’s manual directs the owner to an authorised distributor, dealer or service centre for diagnosis.
How to interpret your result
| Your measured result | Reasonable interpretation | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| About 40–45 kmpl | Within the broad real-world expectation reported by Autocar India | Keep monitoring; no adjustment is implied by the number alone |
| Near 43 kmpl | Close to the owner-reported figures listed by Autocar India and BikeWale | Use it as your personal baseline for fuel budgeting |
| Below 40 kmpl | Could still be explained by severe congestion, load, short trips, riding style or condition | Repeat the refill calculation and check tyres, brakes, service and route |
| 26–28 kmpl or another unusually low figure | Comparable to one individual 2026 owner report, but not a normality benchmark | Verify the method, then arrange inspection if the low result persists or warnings appear |
| Above 45 kmpl | Possible under favourable traffic and riding conditions | Confirm with another refill before treating it as a stable average |
This table is a troubleshooting aid, not a pass-or-fail specification. Mileage alone cannot identify a mechanical fault, and a single tank cannot establish a trend.
Bottom line for city riders
Budget on about 40–45 kmpl for a TVS NTorq 125 in real urban use, with roughly 43 kmpl supported by the owner-reported figures listed by Autocar India and BikeWale. Keep the 48.5 kmpl ARAI figure in its proper certification context, and do not use the older 52.6 kmpl city test as a promise of current everyday mileage. Your own refill calculation—made over several tanks and alongside tyre, load, traffic and maintenance notes—is the most meaningful number for your scooter.
