Whether the Storm ZX is the better buy depends mainly on your daily distance, battery preference, wheel-size needs and the written warranty and on-road price your dealer provides.

Tunwal’s live Storm ZX product page lists three configurations. The battery chemistry changes the claimed range, charging time and price; the listed top speed remains 25 km/h for all three.

What the range numbers do—and do not—promise
“50–55 km” and “70–75 km” are published claim ranges. Tunwal explicitly states that “Real-world range varies with load, terrain and riding style” on the Storm ZX page. A heavier rider, hills, frequent stops, high speed, under-inflated tyres or aggressive acceleration can reduce the distance available. Conversely, a light load on flat roads at moderate speed may produce a result closer to the upper end. No independently validated real-world range test was established for this model, so plan with a reserve rather than treating the upper number as a guaranteed commute distance.
What the 25 km/h limit means
All three variants share the same listed maximum speed. Tunwal’s FAQ describes its scooters as low-speed models capped at 25 km/h and says they do not require a driving licence or vehicle registration. That is the manufacturer’s position, not individualized legal advice. Vehicle classification, documentation, insurance and local rules can depend on the exact model, state and how the vehicle is sold. Ask the dealer to show the vehicle’s approval and paperwork and confirm the requirements with the relevant local authority before riding on public roads.
Storm ZX equipment and everyday usability
The Storm ZX product page lists a 250 W brushless DC (BLDC) motor, a front disc brake, a rear drum brake, hydraulic suspension, 10-inch tubeless tyres, a 150 kg load capacity and an IP65 rating. It also lists a one-year comprehensive warranty covering the vehicle and core electricals, while directing buyers to the dealer for the complete warranty terms of the selected battery.
Motor and performance expectations
A 250 W motor and a 25 km/h ceiling put the Storm ZX in the low-speed urban-scooter category. It is suited to local errands, neighbourhood roads and short commutes where a 25 km/h maximum is acceptable. It is not a substitute for a faster scooter on roads where keeping up with traffic requires substantially higher speed. The stated motor rating does not, by itself, tell you acceleration on a slope; load, gradient, controller settings and battery condition affect that experience.

Brakes, suspension and tyres
The combination of a front disc and rear drum gives the front wheel the stronger disc-braking hardware while retaining a drum at the rear. Hydraulic suspension is intended to control bumps, but ride comfort still depends on payload, tyre pressure and road surface. Ten-inch tubeless tyres can reduce the risk of an immediate puncture-related deflation compared with a tube-type setup, yet you should still learn the manufacturer’s puncture-repair procedure and check pressures regularly. The 150 kg load figure is a published maximum; it includes the rider and any carried items, not just luggage.
IP65 and weather use
An IP65 listing indicates protection against dust ingress and water jets under the rating’s test conditions. It does not mean the scooter can be submerged, ridden through floodwater or washed with a high-pressure jet aimed at connectors. Keep the charging socket dry, follow the manual’s cleaning guidance and allow the scooter to dry before charging.
Which Storm ZX battery is the better choice?
Lead-acid 28Ah: lowest entry price
The 28Ah lead-acid version is the least expensive at ₹55,993 ex-showroom and carries the same 50–55 km claimed range and 7–8 hour charge time listed for the 32Ah lead-acid version. It makes the clearest sense when the purchase budget is the primary constraint and your daily route is comfortably shorter than the usable range after allowing for weather, payload and a safety reserve.

The 32Ah lead-acid model is listed at ₹59,993, exactly ₹4,000 above the 28Ah version. Tunwal’s current table gives both lead-acid variants the same 50–55 km claim and 7–8 hour charging time. The page does not state a different range, speed or charge time for the 32Ah battery, so do not assume the extra amp-hour figure automatically delivers a longer advertised distance. Ask the dealer what hardware, warranty or expected service-life difference justifies the premium and obtain that information in writing.

Lithium-ion 30Ah: longest claim and faster charging
The lithium-ion 30Ah version is listed at ₹78,517 ex-showroom. That is ₹22,524 above the 28Ah lead-acid model and ₹18,524 above the 32Ah lead-acid model. In return, the published range rises to 70–75 km and charging falls to 4–5 hours. If you regularly travel farther, cannot leave the scooter plugged in overnight, or value the lithium configuration’s shorter charging window, those differences may justify the price. The specification table does not provide battery weight, cycle life, replacement price or a separate battery warranty, so those are essential dealer questions rather than assumptions.
How to evaluate battery value
- Calculate your round-trip distance and add a reserve for detours, hills, colder weather and battery ageing.
- Compare the route with the lower end of Tunwal’s claim, not only the upper end.
- Ask whether the quoted battery warranty covers capacity loss, how a claim is measured and who pays for removal or transport.
- Confirm the charger’s rated output, connector, replacement cost and whether a spare charger is available.
- Check battery availability for the exact variant; a dealer may have one chemistry in stock while another requires an order.
Storm ZX price, on-road cost and running-cost claims
Ex-showroom is not the amount on your invoice
Tunwal says prices vary by city, battery choice and any applicable state subsidy, and directs buyers to dealers for exact on-road pricing. Request an itemized quotation showing the scooter, battery, charger, insurance, delivery, accessories, taxes and any subsidy deduction. A web-listed ex-showroom figure should not be treated as a guaranteed retail price in every Indian city.
The ₹0.15-per-kilometre figure
Tunwal publishes a ₹0.15/km running-cost estimate and an accompanying petrol-scooter savings illustration. The company labels the calculation indicative and says actual savings vary with usage. It is therefore a manufacturer estimate, not an independently measured operating cost. Your electricity tariff, charging losses, riding distance, maintenance, tyre wear and eventual battery replacement will determine the real cost per kilometre. Use the figure as a starting point for a spreadsheet, then substitute your local electricity rate and expected annual kilometres.
Finance and recurring costs
Tunwal mentions financing examples and states that actual EMI, interest and down payment depend on the finance partner and the buyer profile. Compare the total repayment—not just the monthly instalment—and ask whether insurance, accessories or processing fees are bundled. Budget separately for periodic brake inspection, tyre replacement, suspension checks and any battery or charger work outside the written warranty.

Tunwal Storm ZX vs Storm XL
The Storm XL is the only close comparison for which the supplied official material provides a complete set of directly comparable figures. Tunwal lists it on the Storm XL product page and in its range overview at Tunwal’s product range.

The comparison shows why “more expensive” does not automatically mean “faster”: both models are listed at 25 km/h and use a 250 W BLDC motor. The Storm XL’s 60–70 km claim sits above the Storm ZX lead-acid claim but below the ZX lithium claim. Its 12-inch wheels may appeal to riders who prefer a larger wheel format, while the ZX offers a lower entry price and a documented lithium option with a 4–5 hour charge time. The available material does not establish a complete, current competitor set across other manufacturers, so neither model should be described as a market-wide winner.
How to compare the Storm ZX with another electric scooter
When a dealer shows you a different scooter, compare like for like rather than relying on a single headline range number.
- Confirm the certified category and speed. A scooter advertised at 25 km/h may be treated differently from a higher-speed model for licensing, registration and insurance. Read the vehicle documents, not only the salesperson’s description.
- Record the battery chemistry, nominal capacity and usable capacity. Amp-hours alone do not reveal total energy without voltage, and a larger number does not guarantee a longer warranty or greater usable range.
- Compare test conditions behind the range claim. Ask whether the figure is a laboratory or company estimate, what payload and speed were used, and whether an independent test exists.
- Compare charging equipment and time. Check the supplied charger, socket requirements, charging cut-off behaviour and replacement price.
- Price the complete purchase. Put each dealer’s on-road quotation, subsidy treatment, insurance and accessories in the same table.
- Inspect support in your area. Ask where warranty work is performed, how long common parts take to arrive and whether battery diagnostics are available locally.

- Written on-road quotation for the exact battery variant, city and delivery date.
- Confirmation of any current state subsidy, eligibility conditions and whether the quoted price assumes approval.
- Vehicle identification number and the documents supplied at delivery.
- Battery brand, chemistry, capacity, manufacturing date and written battery warranty.
- Definition of a battery warranty claim: coverage for total failure, reduced capacity, parts and labour, and the test threshold.
- Charger model, charging instructions, cable length and replacement price.
- Availability of a test ride with the intended payload or at least a ride on a representative route.
- Nearest authorized service point, roadside assistance arrangements and expected turnaround for electrical faults.
- Return, cancellation and delivery-delay terms before signing any booking form.
Older brochure figures and why they should not be mixed with the live table
Tunwal’s older Storm ZX brochure mentions 28Ah/30Ah lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, a 50–55 km range and charging-time ranges that do not map neatly onto the current three-row product table. Model specifications can change between production runs or marketing materials. Use the live Storm ZX page for the present variant prices and listed ranges, and ask the dealer which specification applies to the vehicle in stock. Do not combine an old 30Ah capacity with the current 70–75 km claim unless Tunwal confirms that configuration in writing.
An independent BikeDekho listing also describes the scooter as a 25 km/h low-speed model; its page is available at BikeDekho’s Storm ZX listing. For current variant pricing, battery choices and warranty wording, the manufacturer’s live page and the paperwork supplied by the dealer remain the more relevant references.
Who the Storm ZX suits—and who should look elsewhere
It can fit your use if
- Your trips are urban or neighbourhood journeys that work within a 25 km/h maximum.
- You can charge at home or work and can accommodate a 7–8 hour lead-acid charge, or you value the lithium model’s 4–5 hour window.
- Your expected daily distance leaves a practical reserve below the published range.
- You are willing to verify the battery warranty and service coverage before purchase.
Consider another class of scooter if
- You need to travel on faster roads or routinely maintain speeds above 25 km/h.
- Your route includes sustained steep hills or loads near the 150 kg maximum and the dealer cannot demonstrate suitable performance.
- You cannot charge where the scooter is parked and have no dependable access to a charging point.
- You require a documented independent range test, a specified battery replacement price or a longer written battery warranty that is not available for the chosen variant.
Bottom line: which Storm ZX should you choose?
Choose the Lead-Acid 28Ah version when the lowest listed purchase price matters and a 50–55 km claim is sufficient for your route. The Lead-Acid 32Ah version costs ₹4,000 more but has the same published range and charge time, so buy it only after the dealer explains the practical or warranty benefit. Choose the Lithium-ion 30Ah version when its 70–75 km claim and 4–5 hour charging better match your travel pattern and the ₹78,517 ex-showroom price fits your budget. Whichever version you select, base the decision on the itemized on-road quote, written battery terms and local service support—not on the headline range alone.
