Choose the Trident 800 if your priority is a road-focused, approachable middleweight with useful standard electronics. Choose the Street Triple 765 R if you want a sharper performance roadster that still emphasizes everyday usability. Choose the Street Triple 765 RS when its higher-output engine, upgraded suspension and brakes, and road/track brief justify the extra cost. The comparison is only useful after you identify which Street Triple you mean: the R and RS are materially different motorcycles. Triumph’s Trident 800 announcement does not state an exact peak-output figure, peak-torque figure, seat height, front-brake specification or US starting price. Do not treat “wet” and “fully fueled” as interchangeable test conditions. They are the descriptions used by the respective manufacturer sources, and the units and measurement conventions are not identical.
How the three-cylinder engines change the decision
Trident 800: capacity is known, output is not yet documented here
The Trident 800’s documented engine displacement is larger than the Street Triple’s, but displacement alone cannot predict acceleration, fuel economy, gearing, throttle calibration or heat management. Because the launch announcement does not state peak power or torque, a buyer should not infer that the Trident is automatically faster, stronger at low rpm or more economical. Ask the dealer for the final market specification and an official technical sheet.
Its launch positioning matters more than an unsupported numerical guess: Triumph describes a road-focused machine intended to deliver an accessible, characterful ride. That makes it a logical candidate for commuting, weekend roads and riders who value manageable performance over track-oriented hardware, subject to a real test ride.
Street Triple 765 R: the measured middle ground
The R has a published output and torque curve that place it between the road-oriented Trident brief and the more highly equipped RS in Triumph’s own range. Triumph explicitly describes the R around everyday usability, so its specification is the one to investigate first if your riding includes commuting, urban traffic, touring days and fast back roads rather than regular track sessions.
Its published peak figures are manufacturer claims, not independent acceleration results. They tell you how the two Street Triple variants are ranked on paper, but not how either feels in your local traffic, at your elevation or with your body weight and luggage.

Street Triple 765 RS: more output for a specific use case
The RS has the highest published peak output in this comparison while sharing the same stated peak torque value as the R. The extra top-end emphasis and higher-grade chassis equipment are most relevant if you ride aggressively, attend track days or want more adjustment and braking headroom from the showroom.
That additional capability does not make the RS universally better. If most of your miles are low-speed errands or relaxed road rides, you may pay for performance you rarely exploit. A back-to-back ride is the only reliable way to decide whether the RS’s engine character and controls suit you.
Suspension and brakes: where the R and RS separate
Trident 800 equipment
The launch announcement lists adjustable Showa suspension, cornering ABS and traction control for the Trident 800. Adjustment is valuable because rider weight, luggage and road surface vary, but the announcement does not identify every adjustment range or the front-brake hardware. Confirm those details for the exact country and model year before comparing component quality with either Street Triple.
Street Triple 765 R equipment
The R uses Showa suspension front and rear, with rear adjustment functions listed by Triumph. Its twin 310 mm front discs and Brembo M4.32 calipers provide a clearly documented specification for road use. The published equipment supports the R’s “performance with everyday usability” positioning, but component names alone cannot establish lever feel, pad wear, heat resistance or stopping distance.
Street Triple 765 RS equipment
The RS steps up to a Showa SFF-BP fork and an adjustable Öhlins STX40 rear shock, paired with Brembo Stylema calipers on twin 310 mm discs. Those parts offer a stronger starting point for riders who tune suspension or brake hard repeatedly, yet setup still matters. A poorly adjusted premium suspension can feel less confidence-inspiring than correctly set-up standard hardware.

Electronics and everyday road equipment
Triumph’s Trident 800 launch material specifically lists cornering ABS, traction control, three ride modes, cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity. These features can reduce workload on long rides and let you adapt throttle and intervention behavior to changing conditions. Confirm which functions are standard, how each mode changes throttle or traction-control behavior, and whether Bluetooth integration requires a separate accessory or app in your market.

Request the exact equipment list, instrument functions and available software options for the motorcycle you are being quoted.
Electronic aids are assistance systems, not substitutes for tires, training or sensible speed. Cornering ABS and traction control depend on sensor inputs and road grip; they cannot overcome contaminated pavement or an unsuitable tire.
Fit, seat height and physical confidence
The Street Triple R’s listed seat height is 32.52 inches and the RS’s is 32.91 inches. The Trident 800 seat height was not captured in the launch announcement, so there is no defensible numerical ranking of reach to the ground from this source set.
Seat height is only one part of fit. Tank width, seat shape, handlebar bend, foot-peg position, steering lock and suspension sag change how secure a rider feels at a stop and how much weight rests on the wrists. Two bikes with similar published seat heights can feel very different when you are wearing riding gear or carrying luggage.

Ask a dealer to let you sit on the exact stock motorcycle, not a different trim. With both feet on the pegs, check whether you can operate the brake and clutch without stretching, turn the bars without contacting your knees, and support the machine comfortably during a walking-speed U-turn. If your inseam or mobility is a concern, confirm accessory seat options and their effect on control reach before signing a purchase order.
Price and value in the United States
Triumph’s current US listings accessed in 2026 show a starting price of $10,595 for the Street Triple 765 R and $13,545 for the Street Triple 765 RS. These are listed starting prices, not out-the-door totals. Destination charges, taxes, registration, dealer fees, accessories, financing and incentives can change the amount you actually pay.
The Trident 800 price was not available in the launch source used here. Consequently, there is no evidence-based direct price winner. Obtain a written local quote for the Trident and both Street Triple variants on the same day, with the same assumptions about freight, setup and required equipment.
Availability also needs a date check. Triumph’s 2025 launch announcement described store availability as expected by April 2026; that was a forward-looking expectation, not a guarantee of current inventory. In October 2026, verify whether your market has the current model year, which colors and options are physically in stock, and whether an incoming unit has a different specification.

Choose the Trident 800 when road versatility is the priority
- You want the model Triumph presents as a road-focused naked middleweight.
- Standard cruise control, Bluetooth, three ride modes, cornering ABS and traction control are useful to your routine.
- You prefer to evaluate a new platform by its road manners rather than pay specifically for track-oriented components.
- You are willing to confirm the missing local specifications, especially seat height, brakes, output and price, before deciding.
This is a fit based on stated positioning and equipment, not a claim that the Trident is more comfortable, quicker or more reliable. Those outcomes require riding the exact motorcycle.

Choose the Street Triple 765 R when one bike must do many jobs
- You want documented performance hardware without moving to the RS’s price level.
- Your riding is mostly public-road use with occasional fast, technical riding.
- You value the R’s stated balance of performance and everyday usability.
- The listed seat height and Showa/Brembo specification fit you after a physical check.
The R is the sensible starting point for a broad comparison because its role is clearly defined and its US price is lower than the RS’s. It is not automatically the best value until you compare local out-the-door quotes and equipment.
Choose the Street Triple 765 RS when you will use the hardware
- You regularly ride at a pace where suspension adjustment and stronger braking components matter.

- Identify the exact variant and market. Write “Trident 800,” “Street Triple 765 R” or “Street Triple 765 RS” on your notes. Record model year, color, factory options and country specification.
- Request complete written specifications. Ask for engine output and torque, seat height, braking hardware, suspension adjustments, standard electronics, warranty terms and any required accessory modules. Mark every item the dealer cannot confirm.
- Get comparable prices. Request an out-the-door quote showing motorcycle price, freight, setup, documentation, taxes, registration, incentives and accessories as separate lines.
- Check physical fit before discussing finance. Sit on each exact bike in riding gear, operate the controls, turn the bars and perform a slow-speed maneuver if the dealer permits.
- Book back-to-back test rides. Use the same route and conditions where possible. Include traffic, a smooth bend, a rough section and a safe stop so you can compare throttle response, clutch effort, steering, suspension movement and braking control.
- Repeat the ride with your intended load. If you will carry a passenger, luggage or commuting equipment, ask how those loads affect suspension setup and available accessories. Do not assume an accessory fits until Triumph or the dealer confirms fitment for the exact model year.
- Review the quote after the ride. Your preferred motorcycle may change once you experience reach, heat, vibration and low-speed balance. Keep the written specification with the quote so a substituted trim cannot be presented as the same bike.

The available product information is manufacturer-published. It does not include an independent back-to-back ride test, instrumented acceleration or braking measurements, fuel-consumption testing, long-term reliability data, service-cost comparison or owner-survey results. Therefore, claims that one model is objectively more comfortable, faster in real-world use or more reliable would go beyond the evidence.

Common buying mistakes to avoid
- Comparing a Trident with an unspecified Street Triple. Always name R or RS; otherwise output, brakes, suspension and price can be mixed accidentally.
- Using displacement as a performance verdict. The Trident’s larger stated capacity does not reveal its final power delivery or gearing.
- Treating list price as a final price. US starting prices exclude the regional charges that appear on a purchase order.
