The new 400cc-class models bring the Bonneville name to a 398 cc single-cylinder platform, with a 4-inch TFT, cruise control and cornering ABS among the listed equipment. Triumph has not announced prices yet: it expects to do so in early 2027, with motorcycles due in dealerships from spring 2027.
What are the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black?
The T40 and T40 Black are new motorcycles carrying Triumph’s Bonneville name. Triumph describes them as powered by dedicated versions of its TR Series engine. “Baby Bonnie” is a handy nickname for the smaller-capacity models, not Triumph’s formal model name.
Triumph says the aim was to deliver the style and ownership experience associated with a Bonneville in a lower-capacity category. That is the company’s positioning, not an independent road-test assessment. Chief Product Officer Steve Sargent said, “The Bonneville is one of the most significant motorcycles in Triumph’s history, so introducing a new model carrying that name comes with a responsibility to get it right.”
Triumph Bonneville T40 specifications
The figures below come from Triumph’s US product page and therefore describe that market’s listed specification. Equipment and homologation details may vary by country.

Triumph lists a 4-inch circular TFT display with smartphone connectivity, navigation, and phone and music controls. The announced rider aids and convenience features include:
- Five riding modes
- Cruise control
- Optimised Cornering ABS and Optimised Cornering Traction Control
- Full LED lighting and self-cancelling indicators

- A USB-C charging socket
The US specification describes Optimised Cornering ABS at the single-disc brakes. The available information does not establish that every market will have an identical equipment specification.
What distinguishes the T40 Black?
Triumph has announced a standard T40 and a T40 Black variant. Its launch material highlights the family’s teardrop tank, round headlight, traditional engine profile, spoked wheels, twin rear shocks, two-tone paint, hand-painted coach lining, brushed peashooter silencer and aluminium engine covers.

The announcement does not establish a performance difference between the two versions. Buyers should compare the final local specifications, paint and trim details, equipment and prices when Triumph publishes market-specific information.
Seat height, ergonomics and practical details
Triumph describes an upright riding position, bench seat and relaxed ergonomics. Those are manufacturer descriptions; comfort and confidence depend on rider size, fit and use. The optional black or brown low seat is listed as reducing the seat height from 790 mm to 770 mm. A comfort seat is also named among the planned accessories.

Triumph says it will announce T40 and T40 Black pricing in early 2027 and expects the first motorcycles to arrive at dealerships from spring 2027. No confirmed price is provided in the company’s cited launch information, so online estimates should not be treated as official. Local timing and availability should be checked with a Triumph dealer.

- Comprehensive troubleshooting and fault-finding guides to quickly diagnose problems and reduce costly downtime.
Triumph says a genuine accessories range is planned from launch. The global announcement names low and comfort seats and classic panniers. The US product page also describes a backrest and protection options including a radiator cover, aluminium sump guard and engine bars. Accessory availability and pricing require local dealer confirmation.
What Triumph says about the 400cc platform
Triumph reports that more than 60,000 motorcycles from its 400cc platform have sold across over 50 countries worldwide. This is a cumulative corporate-reported figure attributed to Triumph Motorcycles in 2026, rather than an independently audited statistic in the cited material. The company also lists a 10,000-mile (16,000-km) service interval for the T40.
What is not confirmed yet
The launch information does not provide confirmed country-by-country prices, dealer stock, accessory prices, independent road-test findings or real-world fuel economy. Triumph’s US specifications page notes that consumption and emissions measurements use regulation-specific test conditions and may not reflect real-world results; its displayed fuel-consumption unit is unusual, so it is not repeated here.
