What did Toyota’s liquid-hydrogen car achieve at Fuji?
Toyota’s #32 TGRR GR Corolla H2 concept finished 468 laps, covering approximately 2,135 km, at the 2025 ENEOS Super Taikyu Series Fuji 24 Hours. Toyota Times reported that this was 30% better than the car’s previous best, adding nearly 500 km, despite speed restrictions and extended weather interruptions. Toyota also said the car avoided last place in a Fuji 24-hour race for the first time.
The car raced in the ST-Q category, where the objective was development rather than competing for a ranking. Toyota’s account of the event and its figures are available in Toyota Times’ 2025 report.
How does the 468-lap result compare with 2026?
Toyota’s subsequent account says the car completed 483 laps at the 2026 Fuji 24 Hours. That is a separate year’s result, achieved with a changed prototype configuration—not a correction to the 2025 figure or a controlled comparison between identical setups. Toyota attributed a major part of the 2026 result to a new superconducting liquid-hydrogen pump. See Toyota Times’ 2026 account.

What changed in the car’s liquid-hydrogen system?
The 2025 pump and tank
Toyota’s 2025 report credits the pump and elliptical tank introduced the previous year with helping the car progress. The pump completed the 2025 race without replacement. Toyota said earlier pump replacements had taken more than three hours, and that the pump had needed replacing twice during the 2023 race. The elliptical tank, Toyota said, increased the distance possible per hydrogen refuel by 50%.
The 2026 superconducting pump
For 2026, Toyota placed the superconducting pump’s motor inside the tank. The company said this arrangement freed space to raise tank capacity from 220 L at the end of 2025 to a maximum of 300 L—more than 1.3 times the earlier capacity. Toyota also said the motor’s lower position is expected to lower the car’s center of gravity. These are prototype-development claims, not independently verified performance findings. Why is liquid hydrogen difficult to use in a race car?
Liquid hydrogen must be kept below -253°C during filling and storage, according to Toyota’s 2023 account of its Fuji development work. Handling it involves engineering challenges around the pump, evaporation and tank regulation. Toyota’s 2026 reporting identifies durability and increased hydrogen boil-off as continuing challenges; project general manager Naoaki Ito said, “The biggest challenges are durability and increased boil-off.”
Refueling infrastructure is part of the work as well as the car. Toyota said the mobile liquid-hydrogen station at Fuji was jointly developed with Iwatani Corporation and could be installed in a smaller area than a gaseous-hydrogen station. That is Toyota’s description of the station, not a general comparison of every hydrogen fueling setup.

Is this a production Toyota Corolla?
No. The #32 GR Corolla H2 is a hydrogen-engine development concept that runs on liquid hydrogen. Toyota presents the race program as technology development for possible future production vehicles, not as the launch of a consumer liquid-hydrogen Corolla. The race results demonstrate progress in this specific prototype program; they do not establish retail availability or prove that the technology is ready for ordinary road use.
