Yes. Toyota is still selling and updating the fifth-generation HiAce in Japan, 22 years after it launched there in August 2004. Toyota announced a partial update for the van, wagon and commuter in June 2026, scheduled for release on July 1. That does not mean every country sells the same generation or configuration.
Is Toyota still making the HiAce?
For Japan, the answer is yes. Toyota’s Japanese catalogue continues to list the HiAce Wagon as on sale, with product releases shown through July 2026. Toyota also lists the HiAce Van as a new vehicle.
The name covers more than one body style. Toyota’s June 2026 announcement applies to the van, wagon and commuter; these serve different passenger and cargo roles. Availability varies by market, and the current new-car listings cited here are for Japan.
When did the current HiAce generation come out?
The fifth-generation HiAce was released in Japan in August 2004. Toyota describes it as the first full model change in 15 years. Toyota’s official lineage page puts the start of the HiAce line in October 1967, but that longer history should not be confused with the age of the current generation.

What has changed since 2004?
The HiAce has not remained untouched: Toyota has continued to issue product updates within the fifth-generation line. On June 18, 2026, Toyota announced a partial update for the van, wagon and commuter, scheduled for release on July 1, 2026. Toyota’s Japanese wagon catalogue also lists releases through July 2026.
A partial update is not the same as a full model change. The evidence establishes that Toyota is continuing to update the fifth generation; it does not establish that every version sold in every market has received the same changes.

Can you buy a new HiAce?
In Japan, Toyota currently lists the HiAce Van for new-vehicle purchase. Its page gives a manufacturer suggested price range of ¥2,860,000–¥4,683,800. Those are Japan-market prices, not a global price guide, and may change.
For a buyer elsewhere, check the local Toyota distributor’s current catalogue: the Japanese listing does not prove that a new HiAce, or this generation, is sold in every country. Also confirm the body style and configuration, since a van, wagon and commuter are not interchangeable versions of the same buyer proposition.

Why does a 22-year-old generation remain on sale?
The defensible explanation is continuity with incremental updates, rather than an absence of change. Toyota’s lineage history says the 2004 redesign introduced long and super-long bodies with different roof and body combinations, and describes cargo, camper and leisure-equipment uses. Those are launch-era details, not a description of every current HiAce.
For readers, the important distinction is between a model generation and a model year or product update. A vehicle can retain its underlying generation while receiving later revisions; Toyota’s 2026 announcement explicitly describes a partial update, while the catalogue continues to identify the fifth generation as on sale.

What the 22-year claim does—and does not—mean
- It means: in Japan, the fifth-generation HiAce launched in August 2004 and remained on sale with updates listed through July 2026.
- It does not mean: the vehicle has been unchanged since 2004, or that every market still sells the same generation, body style or specification.
- It does not establish: a worldwide sales history or a global total of vehicles sold.
