The published 2026 Tacoma figures do not establish one overall fuel-economy winner: Toyota lists an EPA-estimated 23 MPG combined for the i-FORCE MAX hybrid and up to 26 MPG highway for the standard i-FORCE gasoline model. Because combined and highway MPG measure different driving mixes, those numbers are not a like-for-like comparison. To identify the most frugal Tacoma, compare the same EPA rating—preferably combined MPG—for the exact model year and configuration.
What are the published 2026 Tacoma MPG figures?
Toyota’s November 13, 2025 release gives these selected ratings for the 2026 Tacoma:

Toyota’s 2026 Tacoma announcement summarizes selected ratings rather than providing a complete table for every configuration. Its 26-MPG highway figure cannot be ranked directly against the hybrid’s 23-MPG combined figure.
Does the Tacoma hybrid get better MPG?
The available headline figures do not answer that question across all Tacoma versions. The hybrid figure is combined MPG, while the gasoline figure is a highway maximum. A fair comparison requires matching rating types for the specific trucks being considered; a highway maximum for one configuration does not show how it compares with another truck’s combined rating.

Toyota’s earlier releases also use qualified, selected figures. For 2025, Toyota reported up to 24 MPG combined for i-FORCE MAX and up to 26 MPG highway for standard i-FORCE. For 2024, the company reported up to 24 MPG combined for i-FORCE MAX. These figures are useful year-specific context, not a substitute for an exact-configuration comparison.

How to compare Tacoma fuel economy accurately
When choosing between Tacoma listings, compare the same EPA measure for each truck. Combined MPG is usually the clearest single figure for an overall comparison; if most of your driving is highway travel, compare highway ratings instead.

- Match the model year. Do not treat a rating from one year as the rating for another.
- Match the powertrain: standard i-FORCE or i-FORCE MAX.
- Check the drivetrain, transmission, cab and bed configuration, and trim. Ratings can depend on the exact combination.
- Compare like with like: combined against combined, highway against highway, or city against city.
- Confirm the rating for the exact vehicle configuration. Toyota’s 2026 announcement does not list every combination, so its headline figures alone cannot identify a universal winner.
EPA estimates versus real-world MPG
EPA-estimated MPG is a standardized estimate, not a promise of what an individual driver will achieve. Toyota’s cited releases do not establish real-world results for a particular driver, nor do they provide owner-reported averages or independent road-test measurements. Driving conditions and use can differ from the conditions represented by an estimate, so do not treat a published rating as a guaranteed outcome.
The 2024 launch announcement initially described the entry-level SR as reaching up to 26 MPG highway, but identified that figure as manufacturer-estimated and said fuel-economy estimates would be announced closer to on-sale dates. It should not be read as a complete EPA rating table. Toyota’s May 18, 2023 launch release provides that qualification.
